It should be forbidden by international law to produce devices without the possibility of an easy 5 seconds battery change. Everyone talking about sustainability but then produce devices with the rechargeable battery glued inside and almost impossible to replace. It must be forbidden!! Also with the way it is made, those batteries will never get recycled at a reasonable price. This is bullshit and has to stop!!

However, bending the battery pack around like that, there is a serious risk of fire if any charge is left in the cells, and straightening it to put it back where it came from is also risky when you next charge it. And what a lot of trouble just to end where you started, except of, course, the battery is now probably dangerous. I changed the pack in my phone and it seems successful (it all works so far) but I doubt I would have bothered if I knew in advance how firmly the battery pack is fixed inside the case with double-sided tape. I was constantly worried about bending it and setting it on fire, it's probably good that it was totally flat.

Sir, please never attempt battery removal on such phones where batteries are glued like that. Only do on batteries which has removal pull tape (like in Asus phones, & all decent phones). Companies are also risking their service men if they do like that. The battery has many thin layers within it, if they get fold/bent/leaked the whole thing would explode! There was one point where I finally was able to lift one edge up and then there suddenly was a strong, acrid aroma. When I looked, I noticed that part of the foil that wraps the battery had stuck to the battery housing and peeled away from the battery itself. I flipped the phone around and then started prying the battery up and cutting through the glue from the other side and managed to lift all of it out. I was a little freaked out and put the old battery in a tin in the backyard. Would not recommend doing it yourself.
It's contact cleaner. Totally different stuff. Used to clean up circuit boards. It's a solvent that evaporates quickly, leaving basically nothing behind. WD40 is penetrating oil, designed for freeing up rusty old nuts and bolts etc, and is basically a thin oil, so will of course leave an oily residue. You don't want to be spraying your phone with WD40. (Edit: You know those Apple shop genius team? squad? guys who say that the little bit of water damage is going to cost you just a little bit more than the new price of a laptop or whatever? Open it up, look for a any rusty contacts shorting sh*t out. Use a magnifying glass if nothing is obvious. It will probably look like fluffy mold. Give the problem area a good dose of contact cleaner, and clean off with cotton buds or a small paint brush etc. I've had two macbooks that apple basically said were "write-offs". Both have been absolutely fine for years after doing this.)

Dirt cheap on eBay. Paid like $14 CAD for an "original oem" battery. Not like it matters that much. I've seen Hauwaii batteries for around $15 CAD.

To not explode, discharge the battery/phone completely before disassembling. Then it is gonna be totally safe to tear down.
