What a revelation for those of us who only know Frank Bridge as a name from Britten's "Variations on a Theme of..." Very Scriabinesque, also reminds of Masques/Metopes era Szymanowski ...

Hrm. Jacobs plays them in a different order (Sunset first), I do not know why!

Yes, I agree, late Scriabin is evident-particularly in “Sunset”. So very meditative and beautiful-like flowers slowly blooming.👍

actually it sounds A LOT like him, and if I had listen this without knowing it was F. Bridge I'd bet my head this is Scriabin.

She reorders the pieces: 2-3-1. She plays these repetitive pieces very well. There are so many chromatisms passages; they are slightly tiresome after a while. (Solitude). Solitude is particularly depressing. Extasy is quite an erotic piece (orgasm reached seven bars before themend! Sunset's motive is repeated endlessly. Bridge is an excellent composer, but these pieces are not his top drawers. Still, the pianist does a great job.

I completely disagree about them being tiresome and repetitive. The harmonic progressions and voice leading alone are fascinating. Solitude is especially beautiful and has a symbolic ending.
