TAKESHI, a mysterious organization, fights against the demonic beings holding the powers of the ONI (Ogre). Hibiki is a one of the members of TAKESHI and fights with the evil creature named MAKAMO by using the ONGEKIBO (Sound Attack Stick) and KAEN TSUZUMI (Blazing Drum).

@@clintonleonard5187 I knew that the Riders for this season had musical instruments as weapons, using the tuning fork to transform, etc, I just wasn't expecting a full blown musical number.

It is interesting to see how much people have changed their views on Hibiki. Back when it aired, I followed many of the discussions on forums like Rangerboard and HJU, and I remember that a few people made fun of the first opening scene, and then everyone joined the "Hibiki sucks" bandwaggon without actually watching the show. Today things have changed, and people see Hibiki (or at least the first half) for the masterpiece that it is. If we look beyond the gorgeous scenery and tributes to Japanese folklore, we have a very interesting social commentary about modern Japanese culture, and the immense pressure that many young people there are facing. Having to live up to the expectations of friends, classmates, teachers and familly. It is also very interesting to notice that Asumu is living with his mother who is both single AND belongs to the lower working class. That is something you rarely see in other Tokusatsu shows... Hibiki himself is so flawed, which is what makes him perfect. He is so down to earth, and simply can't understand why society is making a big fuss about how you live your life. He is not a "cool" dude like Takumi or a goody two-shoes like Godai. He is just a normal dude who has a very laid back view on the world.
Liked the most part but if you think Godai is a "goody two-shoes" u are so wrong. He yearns to kill Gurongi just to protect his belief in saving ppl in ep 35. And actually his beliefs are reinforced by the pain and empathy he has felt from other ppl as the show goes. It is definitely not some "virtuous" dude sacrificing himself just so he can save the world. He is not driven by some self-righteousness but his simple will to help ppl feel better i their lives. Every show is unique is its own way, and Godai as a character was a success in Kuuga as in the show.

I think the series is great so far (this is my first time watching), but from what I already know from the wiki, the reason a lot of people hated it when it came out is that it was never meant to be a _Kamen Rider_ installment, but rather a reboot of _Henshin Ninja Arashi._ I do like how the show preserved its connection to _Arashi_ through the crossover event, and I personally think of the Ongeki Senshi as their own distinct warrior type, rather than classifying them as Kamen Riders.
So much character. I love the first half of this series. It loses its way in the early 30s and the CG is questionable, but the beginning has so much heart and soul. Absolutely worth a watch, regardless of flaws.

@@karpkarpkarp5 The problem with this whole series is that it was NEVER originally meant to be a Kamen Rider series. Not to mention all the stuff that happened behind the scenes midway through the show. Even one of the cast members, Mitsu Murata, mentioned on his blog that he was pissed about what happened.

One of the few riders who value hard work and training to earn their status plus the story telling and art style is really unique, at least for the first half of the series.
When I was younger, I thought Hibiki was kinda weird. But boii, now I realized that the aesthetics and soundracks on this series are unique and great 😬

First time i know Hibiki because Decade episode 1. As a kid, i really love Hibiki's design. Then i watched the movie. First time i saw his Henshin scene like "Damn that was traditional." Not like Showa's that cyborg-vibe, Shin's organic-vibe, Kuuga's ancient-vibe, Agito's mythical-vibe, but Hibiki goes with really new feels. I'm glad i watched this Rider, but not until final eps LOL.
What I really like from the first opening is how it changes the instrument every couple of episodes, sometimes related to main character involved in the arc, which is really charming

I love Hibiki's motifs and aesthetic. It's truly a unique piece of art.
It's a masterpiece on it's own right while many subsequence riders are so bad and ridiculous.
I consider it as a Zen, while not focus too much on action and some over-the-top drama scene, or even some cheesy dialogue like showa installments, the first 30 episodes plot is full of life-lesson, philosophical thought, and some of religous experience, yes, it's one of the truest Japanese heroes to the core.
Second half may not be so good, But I think this is truly a fantastic series and my favourite Kamen Rider

my take is, it was meant to be a slice of life kinda series that will be culminated with asumu becomes a fulltime oni . so yeah no big baddie whatsoever...
SPOILERS!: Kiriya-kun fails this series. I'm glad he got cast as Zeronus. The actor deserved another chance.
Armed Hibiki just feels out of the spirit of this show. Kurenai should have been his final form, in my opinion.
Hibiki, though...best rider ever. It's a shame he became so bitter with the production. It shows in his work towards the end.

This first half of Hibiki is as close to a masterpiece a Toku can can get. I just love how relatable Asamu is as I was his same age the year this came out. Even with the different school life styles between Japan and the US. their this universal coming of age story that anyone can relate too.
The second half is just a bad dream 😆

The first-half of the series is damn great, then they change the director and went full action, not bad but the story-driven aspect that made the series very unique was gone. Along with Agito, Hibiki is still my favorite.
I hated the directorial change so much that I couldn’t even bare to finish watching the series after that. However the show still has a special place in my heart and is among my favorite installments in the Kamen Rider series.
Yeah, the first half did so many things right, and you gotta love the filming locations. I know this is one of the reasons why the show went over-budget, but damn those mountain shots were cool.

Didn't think that several years later i would be the first person in my family to play an instrument...and it was a chudaiko. I carved my own bachi from scratch, and to this day still keep them smooth and polished, ready to matsuri, omiyage, korekare, and renshu
I don't like Hibiki when I was little but it becomes one of my favourite rider :)

First time watching Hibiki and I gotta say: I like it! Love that everything has a music tone as the series is centered around music instruments.

Another Shigenori Takatera‘s masterpiece...unfortunately, Toei fked him up again with Toshiki... Hibiki, just like Kuuga, is one of the most unique Kamen Rider series.
Blame that to Shirakura.
Comparing Hibiki to Kuuga is high praise. Makes me want to check out Kuuga.
@@genkaiba15 both actually very different in their tone. Kuuga is your standard KR series, while Hibiki as concept isn't (but changed as KR series because at the time there wasn't any KR concept after Blade).
Kuuga is darker while Hibiki is lighter in the storytelling aspect.
Maybe the similaties between both are the J-Drama-esque feel and side character focused compared to other series.

This had the chance to be one of the best Kamen Riders directorial change and change in the writing everything up to episode 30 is really good
It truly was a unique show and it stood out among other installments in the series. I hated the directorial & writing changes so much I stopped watching after episode 30.

The worst thing was that the ending completely shat on the message that the original writers were trying to make. "Pursuit your dreams, no matter what people say" was literally replaced by "You should do what others expect you to do". I will never forgive how they ruined Asumu's character development.

@Jeffery Tang They went all action with no plot. That is the problem with most heisei rider series because their goal is toy sales not the show itself. The first director of KR Hibiki follows the plotline of Showa riders until Toei meddles with the story writing and becomes a show promoting toys and other KR stuffs.
Hibiki is one of my favorite Kamen Rider series of the Heisei Period Rider series. The Oni Kamen Rider in this series is very awesome despite the flaws of each one. Loved the first half of the series... haven't saw much after Hibiki gained his Armored form.
I remember really liking Hibiki's design in Decade and have been interested in seeing this series eventually. I wouldn't say I'm a huge musical person (although I do enjoy them from time to time), but this opening episode definitely would have hooked me in if I was in the target audience around the time it was originally airing.
I'm always interested in Hibiki since Junior High... But never really get my hands on the series, so thank you Toei

I'm going through the Heisei era now, and Hibiki is such a breath of fresh air. The story, the music, the filming locations, the whole vibe is different and it's extremely wholesome and cool. I adore Hibiki, even though I'm only on episode 8.
It also reminds me of Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba, because Hibiki hunts monsters.
Hibiki is personally my favorite Rider show of all time, partially because I actually watched it when I was an extremely insecure and fatherless 16-year-old. So yeah, you can imagine how much I related to Asumu and how much I looked up to Hibiki. The show gives such wholesome and relaxing vibes that I often rewatch an episode or 2 because its that much soothing.

Dont expect too much after ep30, and you truly need to watch the movie
Episodes 1-29 were great, after that... well... can't change what happened, but this series still has a place in the heart though. :)

One of the more underrated kamen rider series out there.
Hibiki actually had some of the highest ratings for a Kamen Rider show, especially after they started doing late-night reruns. It gained a very large adult fanbase in Japan.

Parents complained about the fire breathing at the end was too violent. So only. Once. Was really. Cool .

In my opinion, Hibiki is the coolest design of Kamen Rider. -Although, not even once they say "Henshin" when transform, it's sad, they can atleast whisper it- .
The way they still look cool when they change to human head while the body still oni, give the impression that that is their "real" body and not just a costume.
Back then, I think the show weird, KR Hibiki feels so different unlike other KR. But after rewatching them, that's actually what makes Hibiki great. I'm impressed with the aesthetic.
Though, for me, the story feels undone somehow, like there's no climax -onore, Momotaro- . It's good, but flat.

Its just so happen Kamen Rider Hibiki & Garo (who was created by former Kamen Rider designer of late 80's-early 90's) aired in the same year, have the same heavy traditional/ancient japan design & both prone to shows stylized Kanji on the screen

@@NekoValtz Yup it becames shabby because Hibiki focusing on training his apprentices too much.
@@NekoValtz it loses much of its uniqueness in order to fall into normal conventional rider series of the time. Plus the staff changes didn't help.
@@NekoValtz They replaced the original director and most of the writing staff. From there it immediately went down hill in quality. No official statement was ever given for the change in staff but many believe it was from a lack in merch sales compared to previous series. The change in staff was incredibly controversial and highly criticized by not only people working the tokusatsu & entertainment industries but also several cast members also spoke out about the changes. Not to mention that the final episode of the show was rewritten on the final day of filming.

I didn't recall episode 1 was a set as musical movie. Back in 2005, after the hype of KR Faiz 555, everyone hated Hibiki and mocked the series as failure. But when revisited in 2021, I can see its genuinity.

Well, we realize how good the first half after the series end. In fact, when it aired in 2005, the rating for first half is not good.

@@mickeygoh25 ...and low toy sales. Now we get coins and switches and watches and stuff. Collectables. Sure, Hibiki had disc creatures, but it was focused on story, not merch sales. That's a AAA no-no. Sad that it ruined what was left of the series.

I despise this show at first..it took for me 17 years to realize that this show..it’s far more different and unique than any rider show..really strong concept and foundation of the story about teacher and student..the fact that Toei messed up from episode 30 and on it’s really disappointing..you’ll be realize if you watching the show.just bear it in a few first episode (really feels unusual) after that you really feels different😉
Here in Philippines, 13 years ago (dem lol), I always watch this at TV5 along with Toradora and Shakugan No Shana.

One of my favorite seasons ever. Well, the first half. Seriously, the Takatera seasons, in my opinion, are the best shows ever in tokusatsu. They are shows that think outside of the box. Carranger was a parody of sentai and poked fun on the tropes. Megaranger improved on Turboranger's high school theme, and actually focused on high school. Gingaman is nothing but a great season. It was like a homage of Zyuranger, which was great. For Kuuga, Takatera was the man who brought rider back. He's the reason why we got Agito, Kabuto, Gaim, etc. For Hibiki, very artistic, and very well thought-out, like all of his shows. I really wished he would've stayed on for the rest of Hibiki. Haven't seen Daimonji Kanon though, but, after listening to (and watching) the intro.
