Mengrui (who was called master) played a role as a rich son and Bowen (who called him master) was the adoptive son of the rich family. Long story short, master (shao ye) is the way bowen's character call mengrui's.. and because these 'wu dong series' were made to show their lovey dovey relationship outside the filming, they still use the names from the movie. Like mengrui will call bowen "xiao bai" not his real name.
