Shouldn’t we be applauding this attitude?
The way his chest tames the ball, keeping enough momentum in it to land nicely onto a volleying foot, and then striking it so purely with his weaker foot from an acute angle whilst pressured by the defending player, which then lobs an already extending goalkeeper across the posts and into the top left corner; now THAT is a pretty special goal. Technique and aesthetics go hand in hand...

This goal is absolutely perfect football technique. It doesn't get any better than this skill-wise. Perfect chest control falling exactly into his stride at high speed followed by a perfectly controlled dipping volley, on his weak foot from a tight angle. I genuinely believe this goal is forgotten purely because of who scored it. One of the best technical goals in Premier League history, and my personal favourite ever.
Tony yeboah goals were the goals that dreamt of scoring whilst playing with your school mates on the playing fields during your lunch time breaks 😁

I use to try and create it on ISS 64, it could be done.
I think it mostly got overlooked as it happened days after the Wilshere/Arsenal team goal vs Norwich and never really recovered from that.

Norwich goal was amazing and this goal was amazing.
But to be fair we could all name ten or twenty amazing volleys off the top of our heads... how many goals as intricate as JWs goal can you recall? Not many... Probably why this got overshadowed.

I remember a pundit at the time saying it was his all time best PL goal scored when it didn't even win goal of the month. I think about this goal all the time.
Completely agree.. Its the run, control and shot.. For me the best premiership goal ever.
That's probably what gave him the idea for this video.
In terms of technique it's the best volley in PL history so far in my opinion. But cos he scored for Fulham and not one of the big teams it's overlooked sadly.
And the rubbish commentary - compared to Di Canio. Didn't help it's iconic staus.

I was there - first time watching palace at home in the prem. And then this happened. Funny thing is, Steve Sidwell scored another absolute banger of a volley a few minutes later. Ridiculous!

Derby fan and agree with that. The angle and the way it cut across goal made it even more impressive
Sinclair’s bicycle kick against Barnsley in the FA Cup is still my favourite goal of all time.

I really liked big Crouchy's volley for stoke against Man City more than this but both are good goals

Next Gen Trent course it is. The Galatasaray overhead is unreal but that City volley is on a different level.

This will always be my favourite goal I’ve seen live, I loved the team we had back then and i remember meeting him after the game and he was so humble and so nice to talk too

That being said, my shout for most underrated would be Patrik Berger’s flick and volley from all of 40 yards out for Pompey at Charlton. It was basically a more audacious, just as aesthetically pleasing version of Henry’s goal against Man Utd.
Best remains Paolo’s volley against Wimbledon, and I can’t see that changing for some time.

The most underrated goal in Premier League history is Safri v Newcastle. But this one is a stunner as well
Jay Rodriguez against United at OT this season is also incredibly underrated.
Always thought this goal was overrated but along with the strike, you've gotta admire the pass and his touch off his chest. As the video says everything about this goal was on point and also a touch of class.

I watched this game with my best friend who is a palace fan and he was not impressed. Sidwell also scored an absolute Scholes like volley in this game too, Palace dominated whole game and conceded the 2 goals of the season he was so angyr and I just couldn't stop laughing
