- Taken from the public viewing gallery in the terminal building. The SAS aicraft arriving is a Sud Aviation Caravelle, arguably Europe's most successful early jet airliner. Built and designed in France, it pioneered the tail mounted engine configuration seen in later aircraft such as the DC9, BAC1-11 and B727. 280 were produced but none are flying today.
Great posting. I spent lots of time plane spotting at PIK in the 60's

Nostalgie...La Caravelle était un avion formidable ! J'ai volé trois fois dessus dans les années 60' et ce sont mes meilleurs souvenirs de voyages en avion...! Merçi pour le partage...
Love this. Nice to archive footage. So precious.
IC use to operate these birds till late 70s , on
BOM-BHU (VABB-VABV) run.
That is Indian Airlines on Bombay-Bhavnagar run.
Thanks for sharing this rare video.
classic gold :)
i love caravelles......
Me too.
I remember that airliner! I think it had rounded edged triangualr window? I was 6 when we flew one from Paris to Spain. Also fun to see the old vehicles like the Citroen AU and Renault Estafette.
GREAT VIDEO!!
Flew to Prestwick from Montreal in 1972 on BOAC 707.
The good old days, when the plane didn't come to you, You went out to the plane.
@principalsuspeito, the 707 in the clip was powered by Rolls-Royce Conway turbofans. Avons were turbojets.
Qué padres tiempos! y pensar que en aquella época se pensaba que en estos días ya hasta habría carros voladores, ¿si ésa gente supiera que en vez de avanzar ya estamos estancados?
I noticed :) The Conway has a much different sound than a Pratt and Whitney.
Very cool video though.
That 707 has Rolls Royce Conway engines
A friend of mine flew this aicraft and on their training days a man said that the rolls royce verision of the Caravelle was twice as good as the Rolls royce Comet verison why? Becouse the Caravelle only had two
That wasn`t the point, the point was that the Rolls Royce engines were really bad, so the Caravelle type with RR engines were twice as good
BOAC didn't fly DC-8's. I've flow across the Atlantic on the BOAC 707-a bit cramped compared to the wide bodies
I did not find the BOAC 707 cramped. Now they are cramped.
It's a BOAC plane
it hasnt changed much LOL
