a tip for trying to get a more pink or red undertone to skin is to lay down some oranges and reds before you use the browns, the browns will absorb the reds and oranges to make it a more rich skin tone ❤
This is so pretty, I love the traditional look ❤💕. I like the change, it’s very refreshing to see since Ohuhus are my favorite medium to use since I’m not good at digital. If I may offer a tip, use circular motions when coloring to avoid streaking and don’t be afraid to layer the color twice. And maybe keep a swatch card to play around with color combinations. But for your first try, you did great!
As a person with twists, I’ve never actually seen an artist give their character twists! They can have volume sometimes, like my hair- I always wear them in twists that puff out a little bit. I think it’s be great if you drew your oc with them, and I was so happy and touched at the fact you even mentioned/knew about them. Most people think my hair is in braids lol
As cool as digital art is, traditional will always be my favorite. I love seeing an entire process- including the sketching. The best way to approach markers is to treat them like watercolors. Start light and build. That being said - you did an amazing job from beginning to end! Definitely continue your traditional journey!
I really do want her to draw more traditional, her art looks so good when she does it! I like both digital and traditional art but I think that sketches look much more beautiful on paper
I ADORE the way you draw your characters! 🥹💗 and YES protective styles are super common for natural hair during the summer! Isabella’s curls look amazing! 😝✨
Dude, they look awesome! And don´t worry about it. It´s a sketchbook, you can make as many mistakes as you want, guilt-free. In my case, I work with digital, but from time to time I do some traditional to take a break with the screen. It's very therapeutic. Also, if you want to keep trying your markers, how about if you try the 3 marker art challenge? It's old, but very fun!
I’ve been watching your videos a lot lately, and I really love the amount of effort and detail you put into your black ocs, the amount of research you put into your designs is amazing! I’m a black artist and I see too many artists not doing proper research so it’s really refreshing (?) to look at your work and appreciate the detail you put in to your art!! :3 /gen edit: I’m watching your video where you drew Vegalia’s oc and omg the fact that you actually watched black hair tutorials and like, looked to the comments for help is awesome :D maybe this is the bare minimum or something but I’ve genuinely never seen anyone else put in this much work into understanding black hair just to draw ocs and stuff!! :0 /pos /gen
It was really nice to watch you try something new! I hope you keep experimenting and having fun with traditional art whether you film it or not. You mentioned combining different colors to get the right deep skin tone, which I would highly recommend! You could totally color the skin a light pink or purple then go over with a brown and after more shading it can turn out beautifully. One more tip: the blender marker isn’t *really* for blending two colors together. I use it to lighten a color or blend a color to white. It often makes colors splotchy. That’s what I’ve experienced lol
Ohuhu is really great at letting people know they are around, everyone I watch on here have used Ohuhu markers and either used both Copics and Ohuhu, or switched to Ohuhu. I need to get me a box of them! Beautiful color choices for your illustration ❤
I got an email from them as well but I wasn't as brave as you so I turned it down. 😭 I was super insecure to dive into traditional art so props to you for giving it a try!! Honestly all of them look amazing, you did a great job and I enjoyed the video as alwayss 🧡🤗
im pretty sure i have the same marker set as you!!! what i do is i layer one of the warmer ligher browns while its still wet im really bad at explaining things but i hope this helps!!
I recently tried to do your art style as a bit of fun, and i love how you draw so much. Also you should be proud of yourself because your trying something new, and also as some words of encouragement Practice makes progress, so if you enjoyed it even a little bit, keep going ❤
ahhh!!! I am stumped between digital art and traditional!!! I might have to do both! I am still a beginner and have yet to learn! I am so excited to learn how to draw!!
I'm also starting to get into alcohol markers after some time on digital. I too got nervous when i tried some skin tone colors, but I think you did a pretty good first try! I love seeing your process, and i'm gonna take a look at more of your vids. Keep going, you did great!! :)))
As a natural hair girlie myself I subscribed as soon as you said “i read that protective styles are more popular in the summer” just yes yes yes. It shouldn’t be impressive to see you doing the work but I like to let people know when I think theyre on the right track in anything they are putting effort into so i just wanna say kudos to you! Also my hair texture is similar and i would say you have a lot more flexibility than you may think with her hair length. Especially in an updo! Shrinkage is your friend in this scenario 😊❤
I came here to say pretty much this - so often when lighter folks are drawing POC they kind of just go oh ‘brown’ or ‘black’ or ‘dark’ and POC are often not seen as part of the core curriculum when it comes to learning skin tones or hair. But you had totally the right idea with like acknowledging that her skin initially came out lighter than you wanted, talking about the undertones and the difference that makes, acknowledging the potential for ashyness if done wrong, and then the ‘I read that protective styles are more popular in the summer’ - it sounds like you’re listening to black folks which should be the bare minimum but not enough people actually do. This is a great example of how nonblack people can still definitely draw black people and still get it right and be respectful ❤️ I only found this video from looking for info on Ohuhu markers so it’s really nice to see! As someone who has literally been looking at videos on different protective styles for myself this summer just today - if you’re looking for stuff that still has volume, you can check out box braids and such (or jumbo box braids) but also things like faux locs, boho locs, butterfly locs, and then also just ‘ways to style braids/locs.’ They can definitely still be styled big if that’s what you’re looking for with your character 👌🏽
@@miomaxie thank you so much for the hair keywords! i've been looking into them more since i posted this vid and i've got to learn more about twists since they have the look of volume that i think zabella would love. been fun to learn about all the different types of twists! (there's SO many) so far i've landed on goddess type twists i think? where loose strands of hair are crocheted into the twists. i hope im using these hair terms correctly 😭
I loveeeeeeed watching you draw traditionally cause I myself am a traditional artist and I would undoubtedly watch every single traditional art video you make a million times over 😭🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
Instantly subscribed when I heard you talk about your black character and how you were reading on what would she do with her her during the summer and paying attention to certain details
I wouldn’t say whitewashed because honestly she is still a pretty brown and my sister actually gets this light during winter and when she wears long clothes
I find it hard to sort of have a digital sketchbook as I was to make everything a complete piece. I way prefer to practice traditionally because it just seems easier and i dont get carried away and then if i want to, I can turn those sketchs into something more later. Also, I find traditional more relaxing as I'm not super obsessing over the details and constantly trying to have perfect lines lol. Markers are really about layers though and you usually just have to keep building up the colors until you get what you want (at least with darker colors- I haven't used them in so long). You definitely did was better than me when I first started and what you colored in this video is great (especially Sydney imo) :))
I loved this video! The fact that you’re not necessarily use to traditional art and decided to be out of your comfort zone is amazing :) 🫶🏽 I watch your videos when I have art block and you gave me inspiration to draw traditionally again!! Recently I’ve mostly been drawing digitally but I need to start doing traditional art again lol ( Been neglecting my sketchbook for a year now 😭)
we have the same ohuhu marker set lol😂😂 (the honolulu series) but overall, you did great! i love how your traditional drawings still look very similar to your digital drawings! for me, my digital and traditional drawings look different, since i have 2 different styles for digital and traditional.(since my traditional style doesn't work well when i put it on my tablet)
Watching you draw is always fun! Maybe you could challenge yourself every couple months with traditional art for UA-cam? It would be fun to see you fill the sketch book with other characters.
I love that you try tradicional art, it looks soooo pretty as always uvu, also i Recommend to try to color firt with an very light like pastel color o an very dark/intense color for the under tone color and then put the skin color on top, that could maybe work idk, hope that maybe help you
I was looking for ohuhu reviews before buying them and am glad I found this video. It’s an instant subscribe for me ❤ please keep doing more traditional art. Also, may I know what sketchbook you are using?
How do you force yourself to color, when you have the constant fear that the colors won't work out for your piece, I feel like this holds me back a lot and I wondered how you tackle this. I enjoy the energy of your videos, it helps me feel like I'm not creating alone!
all about trusting the process and also knowing that even if u mess up u can always try again! for sketches that i like but im scared to ruin, i take pics or make copies of so i can preserve it even if i mess it up

permission to ask?
where did you buy that art markers?
Im eleven months late, but the markers website are in the description of this video or you can just search up Ohuhu markers
wait how long did the full proses.
i might said 3-4 hours in the vid but it was more like 2-3
How much did it cost? 😅😅
Why does everyone use these sort of pencils when sketching before using alchohol markers. And what’s the brand called
i just used a red crayola pencil
bc they don’t smudge like normal pencils, and it’s light + easier for us to have a sense/guide of what we’re doing
They look nice too me
