Love to hear this! Is there an age limit to going Airborne that you're aware of? Obviously assuming you're in excellent shape going in and have no issues with the physical standards associated with the school.

    • @mattyuhas5776
      @mattyuhas5776 7 місяців тому +1

@c0smic.Cha0s I defiantly wasn't in steller shape before enlisting. I wasn't to far gone but defiantly could tell I had too many late night fast food eats. The only age limit is 17-35. And once your enlisted and have airborne in your contract you're good. I seen so many young men quit because they couldn't handle it. It really is more mental than physical. Believe me, you don't ever want to quit and go home to your family and tell them that you almost did something great. Embrace the suck. It's so worth it.

You can be 40 yrs old 50yrs old, if you feel strong, you are strong. I thought at my age it was going to be tough with the 18 yrs old on PT but i surpassed the majority of them, agility, strength, speed. They called me Uncle then after they saw what I can do in the gym, they just called me Hulk. I received an award for one of the highest PT scores in the batallion

@@antoniosebastian6590 I had a wonderful experience! I am in Tech School now @ Shepherd Airforce Base, and will be here till January 2019. Basic Training technically is for young teenagers between the age of 17 and 22 years. There is a lot of advantages for the older guys going in...First of all, you have to realize that you are more matured and have more experience than the rest guys. Secondly, your drill sergeant will look up to you to take care of your flight. However, you are not going to be treated differently from the younger guys. So my advise to you is be prepared to be smoked just like the rest younger guys. When they messed up, everyone get smoked..."The wing-man concept"...Lol! Please do work out before Basic Training. As for me, the run was my weak point, however, I end up graduating with a Thunderbolt! My run time was 1047. I cannt really say much here..you can email me if you wish austade2000@gmail.com. Very well spoken, sound advice.
I enlisted at 17 and I remember a couple of guys in their late 20's and early 30's that acted like elitists. You can't force respect in situations like basic training. I quickly loathed the old guys and completely dismissed them.
Take home from my experience as a teenage spectator to a middle-aged man is: never try to sell yourself. Let your actions and demeanor net you the respect you deserve. Kids (both consciously and subconsciously) are always monitoring you. Let their opinions develop organically.
Be poised, sharp and fit. Control your visible emotions and you will automatically gain the respect of the younger soldiers.
Thank you for your service! I think it takes a special fortitude to do what you are doing. Safe travels and God speed!

I think the military would do well to give thought to develop programs for the 30+ crowd. I entered the reserves as an E-4 in a branch other than the Army, at 28 with a CJ degree and LE training and experience (my branch was in dire need of LE/ Security/Legal/Medical types at the start of Desert Storm. We went to an accelerated 4 week boot camp (we had a few little priveleges like being able to smoke, wear civies off duty, limited weekend liberty). It was a win/win situation for all concerned. I made E-5 before I turned 30. And a year later was on the promo list for E-6 when I was injured in the line of duty in my civilian LE job, and both of my careers were over in a split second. I think it would do well for the Armed Forces to implement programs for "older" people - if only for reserve or national guard components. Many of us already have/had post high school education, experience, training, maturity, and discipline of value, just as it was in my branchs' and my case. It would not be much of a problem logistically to have special basic training for people in an older age group, and to tailor the training accordingly. My branch had three 4 week accelerated boot camps a year. In my case as well as others, we didn't need to attend a post boot camp occupation training program. We were already trained far and above the military tech school curriculums. On more than one occasion I trained Academy graduates and active duty members. And similarly, "we" were quite often asked by the CO for Sitreps and input in preference to the junior officers. Because of my civilian work schedule, I often drilled on weekdays & did my annual 2 weeks with the Active Duty command and personnel. Many of whom were surprised I was just a reservist. We "older" types were self motivated and often more squared away than the younger, active duty counterparts. I don't have one moments regret for having served, if only as a reservist, and was glad for the opportunity. I'm 57 and I miss it still.

I could see that for certain situations. I think Basic Training should be the same for everyone, but if you civilian training exceeds the school house, you should be exempt. I think there should be a more open path to Warrant Officer for personnel that already have the experience in the civilian world.

I'm applying for my Green Card and I'm 33, hopefully I'll get it, so I'll be able to join!
I've wanted to do it since I was a kid! I did a semester of my High School in Texas (Go Farmers!!! hahaha - Lewisville HS!!) and when the recruiters came to my school I was blown away! But I had to come back to Brazil, because of my visa and also, because I got the opportunity to work as a model... I later had the chance to join through the MAVINI program, but at that time I was working a lot as a model and I just felt like it would be a shame to miss out on all that I got to live as such...
I eventually got a few working visas that allowed me to apply for a Green Card!... but I've been stuck! I guess with fear I won't be accepted back into the US, because when I first went there I had a tourist visa, with which one should't study:/ but as I mentioned I did... and I also lied about it, when I had the chance to get the work visas...
I eventually felt like I should tell the truth, so I called the immigration and told them everything and they said I could continue to apply for a Green Card, but that I had to leave the US to do so... I left in 2016:// and have been struggling to finish my application ever since!:// I guess, with the fear that I won't be able to ever go back!...
I know it might not make sense, since by not trying I'm automatically receiving a "no", but I guess deep inside, I prefer to day dream with a possible miraculous "yes", than to actually face a definite "no" which would factually demolish my dream!...
Pray for me please! hahaha I hope I overcome this fear and just go for it!...
But anyways, once again, thank you for the video!

I went through Army BCT right before turning 35. It will definitely be a shock not only having to take orders from, but really be bossed around by people like sergeants who are far younger (much more than a regular job). But at least physically because you are AF it shouldn't be too rough as it would be in BCT. You wouldn't have to do ruck marches (giant backpack marches for miles), at least. Plus BMT will be a few weeks shorter so less time to deal with craziness from the drill sgts who want to have mass punishments on everyone because they got mad at one trainee for something really petty. Good luck. Looking back, wish I had done AF instead of Army, especially since the AF is much more mature than Army is.

I went in at 27 and my drill sergeant was an E7, who never deployed, and was a garrison show off with a small stack of awards achieved in non-deployment service. He would have us toe the line and voice that he "Loved" the Army, and hated that some people only come in for the bonuses, and certain perks, then leave after 3 or 4 years.

Everyone has to do what’s best for them. For some people that’s a 29 year career. For others that’s a more abbreviated experience.

I think the cut off age for OCS in the Army is 42. I could be wrong though. Research it and let me know as well. Are you thinking of going active, reserves, or guard?
