I want to preface this comment by saying I love your content, Spaceboy, and James and your other characters have been one of the very few things to keep me consistently laughing hard as well as at all interested in RP for the most part in these past few years.
After the therapist told James off about not being a therapist; James responded by silently, visibly moping then banging his head into the wall as the therapist desperately tried to get him to stop.
My initial response was like everyone else's I'm sure, surprise and laughter. But quickly I realized that that therapist has been me.
I have been in her exact situation many times.
I've worked in a non-secure juvenile detention center for about 5 years now, and the prison system is as fucked as you've most likely heard about here in America, if not worse for the kids.
More often than not the mentally ill are put into my facility and specific building with varying levels of mental ability and stability.
This exact scenario, from a crazy ass situation like this mentally ill person thinking hes a licensed therapist, all the way down to the smaller details like the subtle mental breakdown signs of silence and making it extra visibly known that he is very upset then reacting more severely by injuring himself to get a reaction from the therapist and his peers, is so, SO accurate you have no idea. So much so that this struck enough of a chord with me that I'm leaving a comment about it, which I really never do.
Your depiction of someone on the fringes of mental stability is so incredibly accurate that it made my slight bit of PTSD on the matter flare up. While of course I know everyone, including the RPers, are getting laughs out of this as they should I can't help but feel a bit of empathy for the therapist regardless.
Do you have any experience working with people with mental illnesses or dementia?
For anyone wondering what the therapist is supposed to do if he kept injuring himself by hitting his head into the wall; she is supposed to put her hand, arm, pillow, anything soft between his head and the wall and do her best until backup arrives to help restrain him from injuring himself any further.
