I have been playing guitar since I was 9 years old, I have Never seen this kind of great teaching in simplicity as what Brian has shown us here. Absolutely fantastic job Brian, thank you for your time , energy, & knowledge of the guitar fret board. I am 71 years young now and still learning. God bless you Brain, & thanks again for all your lessons, I believe I may head over to your home page & join up for some extra material. Lol 😆
As a newcomer to soloing, can I just say "Thank you" Brian for explaing this in a way that is simple to use, and sounds great. And thanks for not skipping over the small details that others might know. I get a lot out of these lessons.
His course is awesome.... I only signed up two months ago and managed to complete his "basic training" modules and now I can comfortably run basic solo lines over any key..... the membership is surprisingly affordable given the amount of content available. Just to put into perspective I would have paid the same amount of money for only 3 face to face lessons in uk. Highly recommend ACTIVE MELODY.....
Hi there - this has been a real 'breakthrough' video for me, as a 20-year beginner looking to expand my knowledge / abilities through improvisation, and having watched hundreds of youtube videos that never quite crack it. There are lots of videos that are very theoretical, purely practical, superficial hacks, or just plain confusing in relation to minor / major / pentatonic / soloing principles etc. But this has a perfect balance of all those things in a way that is immediately useable. Thank you, I'm now a subscriber!
hands down the most useful teacher ever. where were you 20 years ago when I started playing I have learnt more in the last six months since I found your lessons than I learned in the previous 19 years. and I love that guitar. thanks Brian.
Genius. Simple but a lot to work with, especially getting the whole and half bends over the right interval 1,4 or 5. Best lesson. You could solo over any song when playing with others.
Some people teach and some are teachers. Man you're a teacher. I've seen similar things on UA-cam many times but you went a step further and was much easier for me to get it. Thanks for your time. I had to sub. Looking forward to much more.
You have the some of the best guitar lessons out there! Your approach to instruction is very thorough yet simple to understand. I’m learning a ton! I’ll be joining your website membership and look forward to many more great tutorials. BTW… some day you should walk us through that impressive wall of vinyls that are behind you. I bet there’s some gems in that collection! Keep it up!
One of the first things that occurred to me as you explained the major and minor box locations was that you could do a 'call' in major and 'respond' in minor. You could do this alone or while swapping licks with another player. Very cool, as usual, Brian.
Thank you Brian, this lesson had a real light bulb moment for me, I appreciate it, when you went down three strings, and went from the major pentatonic’box’ to the minor pentatonic.
One great lesson after another! He's fast paced but that's ok. You get a lot of information in a short time and, unlike an in-person lesson, you can back it up and watch again until you get it. Good stuff!
Hello Brian, been following you for years now. A classic simple way to move round the pentatonics family, gives me more belief in myself to play tunes, thank you so much, keep up the brilliant work😀😀😀👍
😂 thank you sooo much I’ve been trying to go from minor to major but but my riffs would not work your box method just opened it up I’m having a blast Thank you!!!
Thank you Brian! A very fun lesson! I'm really glad you put this together in such an accessible way. I love these "tips" you give that are geared perfectly for anybody who needs a little success in their playing. I've been stuck noodling for a while and needed something I could manage that will also encourage me to be creative. This hits the nail on the head!
I’ve played the square box for a while now. It makes it easy to sound more advanced. I didn’t know about the playing in the key I just knew it worked and I didn’t have worry so much about chord changes. Thanks for the lesson!!!
Every time I watch one of your lessons, I always get something. BTW lusting after your new guitar. I don't have a P90 guitar and that one looks and sounds perfect.
Love it! Great sounding guitar. Thank you for your time & info. I'm self taught. I started at 9 yrs old & I will be 69 yrs old in a couple of months. I play everyday, & you have helped me.
Another great lesson. I've said it before, I'll say it again: I wish I had Active Melody and UA-cam when I was coming up. I might actually be a good guitar player! Oh well, better late than never. Thanks, Brian! AM is worth every penny! P.S.- I'm definitely going to check out Wide Sky Guitars!
Oh great lesson. Love it. The way you explain, is easy to learn. Thank you so much. I can play it now on B and Bm. Love that blussy sound and that beat.
Thank you Brian. This makes me understand the simplicity of switching minor and major scales. And hitting the transitional notes will make big difference in my playing. All these years, I’ve always wondered how these guitarists 😮come up with these cool riffs. It seemed too complicated for me to learn
Woah, really cool. I almost feel like this is one of your best lessons on the pentatonic scale at least that I have watched. Your enthusiasm shows particularly with this video, which I interpret as a sign that you also are convinced of this method, and how it comes together. Really like how this complements previous beginner videos on that box and triangle. This brings it together for me. I really like the visual shapes approach, really makes it accessible for me. Also like the demonstration of full and half bends, and where to place them. The root note as an anchor was a revelation to me, how major and minor pentatonic are connected, didn't realize that before. Now I just need to figure out what notes distinguish major and minor, and where the critical ones are, e.g. the third, fifth, flat seven, minor third, which corner of box and triangle, then i think I'll have it figured out so I can play major and minor pent intelligently. Also striking to me was to hear major and minor right after each other like call and response, inspires typical blues lick. So cool. Definitely going to try and use that. The bends, like I said, really inspiring. I am a beginner with blues, have classical background and am using your channel to get ideas and widen my repertoire. Great work, really enjoy the videos and your particular approach.
2nd on this being one of your best videos! And that P125, whoa, first thing I noticed and couldn't keep my eyes/ears off of it. Checked his site for specs, absolutely fantastic!
I have been watching different guitar lesson videos for months and somehow this is the first time someone has mentioned you can switch between Minor/Major pent... smh... This really opens up a world of playing. Great lessons This is the 2nd one I Have watched, the other was similar but also just as helpful (the triangle/square patterns in maj/min pent). I am transposing all this to Ukulele while I wait to get a new guitar and your lessons are great especially since your concentrating on the bottom (top) four strings lol.
Just another great lesson everyone is so helpful your lesson ideas every week are mind blowing. And a very nice new axe I love P90’s off to practice my new knowledge. Thanks
Brian’s enthusiasm shows through in every video. He seems genuinely excited to present the material.
Excellent teacher he is.
Such a fun terrific piece Brian. Thank you for all you do for us. Doug Pierce 🎸
I hadn't picked my guitar up in years, until watching your videos a couple of weeks ago. Thank you.
same here. Thank you Active Melody.
Many of your lessons are worth the price of a yearly membership, and this is one of them. A real gold mine on this one.

You are a natural-born teacher with perfect clarity in your explanations!
Great use of graphics to show scales. Tremendously useful teaching tool
Fantastic lesson Bryan. Really a simple way to improvise. So useful. Also appreciate the fact your videos don’t show any annoying UA-cam ads!!!!!!

You make it easy for an old man to improve, thanks
THANKS A LOT BRIAN. YOU REALLY HELP THE PLANET TO BE A BETTER PLACE.

I think this is my favorite lesson yet. Best back track style and great tips. Thanks Brian.
Mind boggling, and very well explained! Super clear, and finally something that looks like I can and will integrate into my playing. Thanks a lot!!
Repetition is the key to higher learning..Love to hear reminders constantly.
Pinky major, index minor..

Simply the coolest lesson I've seen in a minute. You're greatly helping the guitar simpletons like me.
So much to work with from this simple example of M/m pent boxes! Thx Brian

Fantastic. I’ve been piecing this together with more sections of caged system. This is much simpler and sounds much better. Thank you.
Hello Brian, been following you for years now. A classic simple way to move round the pentatonics family, gives me more belief in myself to play tunes, thank you so much, keep up the brilliant work😀😀😀👍

Eye opener, and very well explained. Thanks again, Brian!
I’ve played the square box for a while now. It makes it easy to sound more advanced. I didn’t know about the playing in the key I just knew it worked and I didn’t have worry so much about chord changes. Thanks for the lesson!!!
