Mỹ Sơn: Ancient Vietnam Treasure Savaged by War V N
Вставка

- During a single week in 1969 the US military dropped bombs on what is now the World Heritage Site of Mỹ Sơn not far from Da Nang, reducing much of the centuries-old Cham Kingdom sanctuary to rubble and destroying its most important temple. North Vietnamese forces had set up a jungle command center within the temple grounds.
Yet much survives, much has been restored and Mỹ Sơn in Central Vietnam remains perhaps the country's most important antiquities site, even if it is often overlooked by foreign visitors who flock to Da Nang, the ancient town of Hoi An and splendid beaches nearby.

How not to have Heritage sites be bombed: Don't use them as military sites. The sparing of Kyoto comes to mind by then Secretary of War Henry Stimson. He ordered Kyoto to be removed from the target list of the bomb. He argued that it was of cultural importance and that it was not a military target. Despite it being an important factory hub to their military of Japan. This was due to the fact he visited it once. Thanks for helping us see this site, so we might appreciate Mỹ Sơn as well.
Thanks Sean. Glad you enjoyed the video.
