In retrospective, I really appreciate rockstar toned down the humor in rdr2 and had less goofy side characters. They took all the great parts of this game's story and gave it a more consistent tone.
I can't fault RDR2, it was in a league of its own... but RDR1 being the first of its type for a long time was trying to give us everything we loved about westerns, the lone Mysterious gunslinger who is really a good man, and all the other stereo types, brutal killers, sneering corrupt bureaucrats, drunk Irishmen, town sheriffs standing against a tide of lawlessness, gold obsessed loons, snake oil peddlers, Mexican revolutionaries etc. It was very indulgent and I loved every moment of the story....aside from Edgar Ross of course.
Never played through this game, and just watched this after beating RDR2 (not gonna spoil), and i really think the stories of RDR and RDR2 work better when experienced chronologically than the order they were released.
I love how this game feels even more like the last breath of the Wild West after rdr 2. John is just so tired of all the shit and it really shows in his voice acting.
"I want you to imagine this for a moment. Author joining Hosea and Lenny in a big tavern in the sky. They rejoice when they see each other once again. They talk about the good old times and how bad things use to be in the way back when. They sing, they dance, they drink until the years feel like they have flown by. All of a sudden they see the tavern door swing open once again. They see John walk in and remove the hat that Arthur gave him all those years ago. Silence falls under the tavern for the first time in years. The group stands to their feet to meet him in sorrow. "I tried guys." John says. Arthur places a hand on John's shoulder and utters the only thing honest enough. "We all did son... Now give me that damn hat back and grab a beer.'" UA-cam User - Unlimited Power. I never played this game or cared about Red Dead Redemption. Then I saw trailers for Red Dead 2 and I was sold. But given Red Dead 2 is a prequel I decided to finish that first, I finished it today and I have to know how this story ends.
I want to go back and play it but I can't get it on PS4. There is one way to play old games on PS4 but it doesn't work in my country. My brother use to play this game but I was never interested, at the time I wasn't really a gamer I was into rugby and kickboxing. But now I wish I had played it, it's so good.
This is the one "game movie" that actually leaves in relevant parts to make it feel like a story rather than just a group of cutscenes, but it also cuts out a lot of the tedium that came with this game. I loved red dead 2, but 1's gameplay and slow start just doesn't do it for me. This is a WAY better experience for me than playing it.
It’s what we had at the time of 2008-2012 graphics and it was better and simpler times for gaming. I remember the RDR: Undead Nightmare DLC it was unique from Rockstar’s formula.
If you watched the entirety of 2 and rewatched this, you really see how Arthur and John developed. 2 really showed us how John grew up in Arthur's shadow. Both were mentored by Dutch. But John was more so mentored by Arthur. In the end when you get to play as Jack its a wonder how he came to fill the boots of Arthur and John. Makes me love the game more. If they ever did a Red Dead 3 game, I'd hope they mix in some aspects of the future in terms of world War 2 era weapons in the hands of mobsters with a mix of early cars and horses. Maybe what happens to Jack? All in all this was a really nice story and just reminded me of playing the old red dead 2 game.
You know, after John took care of his former allies, I was expecting something bad to happen to his wife or kid especially during those father-son missions between him and his son Jack but I never imagined that he would be the one dying in the end since he's the protagonist. How does Abigail die tho?! In the end, Dutch was right. "When I'm gone, they'll just find another monster." :(
Exodus in America, watching John get off the boat, just generates a completely empty feeling. John’s death is perhaps the most crushing death of a character I’ve ever dealt with. I replayed Redemption recently and just got reunited with my family in the story; I don’t have the heart the continue. I’m not ready for what happens again.
the best one on youtube how you chain up the missions and cutscenes to make the story more appealing and understandable thank you for the this fine work

I started this game long ago, but I had to sell my console and never finished it. I finally finished RDR2 last week and had to know how this history ends. Thank you so much to make it possible.

Just finished watching both this and Red Dead Redemption 2 and it just breaks my heart, Jack Marston had no choice but to get revenge, I know revenge is a fools game but when you have nothing but that what else can you do? He was raised in the gang, then once his mother and father got out and try to live the straight and narrow those federal agents (or pinkerton's I don't know which?) Kidnapped him and his mother and forced his father to hunt down his friends in exchange for his and his family safety, then before his father could try to keep him on the straight and narrow here comes agent Ross in his gang of military thugs going back on his word and no apologies or explanation on why he went back on his word, people complain that Jack shouldn't go for revenge but people just don't see the bigger picture, John didn't get to spend enough time with his son to teach him that again revenge is a fools game and whose fault is that? Edgar Ross, if he kept his word who knows what Jack future would have been, Agent Ross stole his father time he could have spent with his son and wife, he stole Uncle's life, he stole his father's life, he stole his mother's health, Ross just robbed Jack of everything, because think about it without his father or uncle to help maintain the ranch they probably couldn't meet ends meet, didn't have money for a doctor to cure his dear old mother of the disease she died from, Ross didn't just go back on his word he stole everything from Jack including again his future, revenge is all Jack had left in his life if he had anything else worth living for he probably would have take it.
i mean watching an hour of this after finish RD2 thank god this video contains the small dialogue when comes to horse riding, i usually hate the cutscene only movies as it a game so this forms of telling a story and giving characterization.
On the ride to Armadillo with Bonnie, responding with "about 3 years now" when asked how long he's been ranching....one example of amazing small dialogue details that now make sense after RDR 2 that makes this version worth watching! I will gladly clear the next 7 hours for this! 👍😁
John, John is a man of great patience. After RDR2 I needed an extra RDR hit. Next to revisit RDR Dead redemption. 2 was pretty darn solid. Rockstar really put out some good games here and thanks to your work, I'm thoroughly enjoying them. Is there a longer play than an hour and a half (or so) of Dead Redemption somewhere on YT ? More detailed ? Really digging the 2160p too. Also, have you any idea as to where I can equip my guns with a "Dead Eye" lens ? Thanks again GLP. -VG
2 hours in still don’t understand why this game is so loved... it’s literally just a cowboy simulator??? Edit: 5 hours into RDR2. Think that says enough
@princesssexymagicpower2765 nah, there was a point in time where hosea wouldn't matter. I'm pretty sure when he hit his head hard, during guarma, that caused his insanity.
This game surely needs a definitive edition remake not just a remaster but a complete remake with RDR2 graphics and everything and also all the Best RDR1 bits
this video is truly EPIC ! thanks so much for posting it ! i didnt think it was possible for RDR1 to look so damn good ! now to just figure out how to get it to look like that on PC ! (if thats even possible)
Well that’s that. I watched this after finishing your Red Dead Redemption Game Movie episodes, even though I remembered it pretty well. I ended up watching pretty much the whole thing, only skipping about a half hours worth. Maybe it’s because I have so much nostalgia for this game, but to me, it actually seemed better than the second game. The characters, while fewer, seemed more developed, more authentic. Even the western feel seemed more authentic watching this that Red Dead 2, despite the fact it should be the other way around, since this is set over a decade later.
It's definitely because of your nostalgia-goggles, which is fine. But characters in this game are not at all believable, most of them are just charicatures or stereotypes. A lot of the voice acting sounds really low-budget, the camera-work and music score don't really help sell the cinematics either. Most every character in RDR2, while not always fleshed out, was at least interesting to talk to, if not get attached to. Not even to mention the development of all the characters in RDR2, especially Dutch. It was so seamless and believable the way they progressed as people. RDR2 is easily Rockstar's most impressive game to date, at least from a story-telling/character-developing/cinematic/visual standpoint.
It’s half nostalgia, half true. The characters are purely nostalgia. Red Dead 2 I think did a much better job of well rounded and believable characters than RDR1s cliche ones. The chubby snake oil merchant, creepy grave robber, old no nonsense sheriff, etc. (don’t get me wrong I love it still but they’re definitely not as well written as RDR2). However it is more West because. Well it’s in the West. RDR2 is actually more south east for 80% of the game. Also, those cliche characters in the first make it feel more west-y. If you think of fistful of dollars or Good Bad & Ugly all the characters are the cliche ass ones.
RDR2 actually has a lot of wild west feel, it's just that people don't think so because they're ignorant and think that the west is nothing but endless desert. Lemoyne doesn't have to be Louisiana or Mississippi, it can easily sell as Texas and Roanoke Ridge is a lot like the Ozarks (although the Ozarks are fairly eastern). Other than that, The Heartlands, Big Valley, and Ambarino are what most of the western states look like; believe it or not As for the main story, it's definitely more wild western in the beginning than the end, and that's the point. It's supposed to feel like the west is dying and the civilized world is growing
If you pay attention around 5:44:18 something unexpected happens. You might even laugh outloud (which i did after multiple viewings). When John attempts to shoot one of the bandits, unfortunately he missed his intended target & ended up shooting either the Professor or the Professor's horse right in the ass hahaha
I know it's a cutscene video but you could have had the horseback music sequences both when you enter Mexico and when you head back home after getting Dutch.
@@Maomowable Both of those music sequences, in my mind, are important to the story. They offer windows into John's thoughts and emotions on two pivotal trips in his journey. I think we'd all like this game a bit less if they were just long silent horse galloping sequences.
1:21:53 Wait wait.... I forgot about this part. Did they really just... suggest shooting near a person's house...? XD HAHAHA! *Bang bang bang bang bang. * 5 windows shatter. *bang. *The skull is hit.
At 3:14 Cute, pretty Jenny was talking about a flying car in Kansas ? I do not know about Kansas. But in England in the same year as this took place in 1907 they had a car named "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" that flew didn't it? LOL
This was indeed the greatest game I ever played. In some ways it is still better than the sequel, but overall it is rare that I play a game that I saw (and still see) as a masterpiece and somehow they outdo themselves in the sequel and make it even better.
I always said I wish I lived back then what does game it is possible to see how they felt back then I'm pretty close to it I'm sure and it felt good and I want some I should have been a cowboy oh that's right I am
I want a remaster of all this with added content like undead nightmare so bad. If they change the story enough and have a better online, make half of gta 6

4:54:02 flawless execution jumping out of a wagon full of TNT!
they should make this game again with the better graphics and add more about the characters from the last game
i mean watching an hour of this after finish RD2 thank god this video contains the small dialogue when comes to horse riding, i usually hate the cutscene only movies as it a game so this forms of telling a story and giving characterization.
Best part of the whole game 3:50:37 - John folds and Muller says “YOU FACKING CHEET!”
On the ride to Armadillo with Bonnie, responding with "about 3 years now" when asked how long he's been ranching....one example of amazing small dialogue details that now make sense after RDR 2 that makes this version worth watching! I will gladly clear the next 7 hours for this! 👍😁
I love how yoi edit these videos. I just pre ordered rdr2 and need to watch this before it gets released.
Whos watching this when the sequel is about to come out this week?
*prequal
Id rather be with bonnie than abi truth be told..
Im glad im not the only one. Bonnie and john for the win
@@aliezahjuarez1212 Bonnie is way younger than John
Abigail is one of the most weak, female characters in games. She is so stupid.
People talk about the tone of this game being a bit goofy, but honestly it fits. The epilogue even shows it with John just meeting goofball types.
It’s kinda of sad really how Dutch became a crazy killer criminal
He always was like that but Hosea was able to stop him doing these things.
@princesssexymagicpower2765 nah, there was a point in time where hosea wouldn't matter. I'm pretty sure when he hit his head hard, during guarma, that caused his insanity.
Why would you cut out Far Away when you have this amazing quality? I know it's not a cutscene, but still.
Xteezii copyright issues
This game surely needs a definitive edition remake not just a remaster but a complete remake with RDR2 graphics and everything and also all the Best RDR1 bits
Even after all these years, John Marston's death still breaks my heart. Then at 7:00:57 the "waterworks" make an appearance.
i'd like to think, that West Dickens makes John laugh and smile so much is because he reminds him of Hosea.
I like this edit way better. The other felt like I was watching a movie and skipping every action scene and the middle of every dialogue.
Really Sucks That Arthur & John Died
I've been thinking of ways to share the RDR story with my mom ever since she had a head injury this is a wonderful way thank you!
A town with delusional is one of the hardest lines I’ve ever heard lol
this video is truly EPIC ! thanks so much for posting it ! i didnt think it was possible for RDR1 to look so damn good ! now to just figure out how to get it to look like that on PC ! (if thats even possible)
I just saw another jack in beechers hope in the barn walking away while Jack is cleaning.
Is no one going to mention the double jack 🤯🤯🤯
i noticed that lmao
This cut is amazing, and well worth 7 hours... Once the snake oil salesman is gone, anyway. Thank you!
we can do it. its just 7 hours.
but the struggle is so real
Amazing song and beautiful video!
@@patsfan365 Yes, totally agree. Whilst I love RDR1, the character development is obviously much better in RDR2.
Other than that, The Heartlands, Big Valley, and Ambarino are what most of the western states look like; believe it or not
As for the main story, it's definitely more wild western in the beginning than the end, and that's the point. It's supposed to feel like the west is dying and the civilized world is growing
Is Nastas’ voice the same as Dutch? XD
Voice actors who voiced John Marston, Bill Williamson and Dutch Van Der Linde want to watch me play Red Dead Redemption 2 sometime.
I don't believe you.
2:57:23 i see what you did there rockstar like what a subtle reference
You do know that this game came out like three years before gta v right?
Those violins ... damn , makes hedgehog skin.
And the whistling! I freaking love the background songs!
4K is amazing
Well the prequel was just sublime. Bring out some single player DLC rockstar and also enhance this game for PS4 Pro please.
I finished watching their rdr2 movie few minutes ago. Time to continue.
6:21:07 i thought she said her reading was getting pretty good in rdr2? 😲
Oh crap you're right, maybe she dropped the reading stuff after everything that happened between the tearing apart of the Van der Linde gang and 1907
She said she was learning but then she said jack was the one reading everything to her
If you pay attention around 5:44:18 something unexpected happens. You might even laugh outloud (which i did after multiple viewings). When John attempts to shoot one of the bandits, unfortunately he missed his intended target & ended up shooting either the Professor or the Professor's horse right in the ass hahaha
2:49:31 they talk about how wonderful Mexico is while two folk are stomping the shit outta someone in the back
HOLY SHIT THIS IS AWESOME
The dude that started is hell of funny bruh. Sososo so of the bibibibitch 😂😂😂😂😂
I know it's a cutscene video but you could have had the horseback music sequences both when you enter Mexico and when you head back home after getting Dutch.
Damn, I'm not up to there yet but I'm disappointed those aren't in here. The horse ride into Mexico is the single best moment in the entire game.
@@Maomowable Both of those music sequences, in my mind, are important to the story. They offer windows into John's thoughts and emotions on two pivotal trips in his journey. I think we'd all like this game a bit less if they were just long silent horse galloping sequences.
@@habadasheryjones Definitely. Those moments are what elevated this story from more than just a game.
They took it out to avoid copyright issues
Nostalgia
Perfect Ending!
1:21:53 Wait wait.... I forgot about this part. Did they really just... suggest shooting near a person's house...? XD HAHAHA! *Bang bang bang bang bang. * 5 windows shatter. *bang. *The skull is hit.
when people want to change to be staright to life. Ross will never let them.
Is that Jake from State Farm?
watching you only go for auto lock on shots and not headshots was painful. there is dead eye too!
$15, that's almost $500 in 2022 😯
Best game ever
Thank you
At 3:14 Cute, pretty Jenny was talking about a flying car in Kansas ? I do not know about Kansas. But in England in the same year as this took place in 1907 they had a car named "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" that flew didn't it? LOL
Hmm good one, I thought this was a Back to the Future reference
Let's call this a fake story written by John's son. It never was real. John is alive.
it seems "civilized" men don't need to keep their word
This was indeed the greatest game I ever played. In some ways it is still better than the sequel, but overall it is rare that I play a game that I saw (and still see) as a masterpiece and somehow they outdo themselves in the sequel and make it even better.
I always said I wish I lived back then what does game it is possible to see how they felt back then I'm pretty close to it I'm sure and it felt good and I want some I should have been a cowboy oh that's right I am
1:37:56 I dunno why but the way the bottles shake is just a nice touch. I feel like most moderns games wouldn't have that kind of detail.
4:28:00 ‘Too soon! Idiota!’ 😂
Me when I meet someone for the first time and want to see if they're cool with me being weird 5:30:59
I love this game so much
I want a remaster of all this with added content like undead nightmare so bad. If they change the story enough and have a better online, make half of gta 6
@Gamer's Little Playground. If I may ask for one simple adjustion to the video. Could you please add in "Deadman's Gun" at the end credits?
Drew Russell they had to take it out to avoid copyright issues
@@jacksonb.valentine8208 Could they pay to use the copyright?
jfc you people. are you gonna pay him the price for the license?
What the hell? There's 2 jacks. When john tells jack to run and he runs there's a another jack casually walking like ain't no ones business
i just watched this whole thing. RDR2 is going to be amazing!
