Thank you for putting this video out there! I know about Billy Murray; I'm a senior citizen who still owns (and occasionally and carefully plays) old 78's my great grandparents owned. One of them is "Always Leave Them Laughing when you say goodbye" sung by Billy Murray. He enunciated the words so well, I can hear them over the hiss and crackle of the record. Favorite line? "The cable caught his whiskers, see? - and he went to the Battery" (at the southernmost tip of Manhattan) I love "Under The Anheuser Bush", sung by Murray in 1904. Another favorite of mine is "In the Beautiful Seaside Air", which is a lovely song sung by Murray and other quartette members. These records are on UA-cam and on a playlist I compiled, "Real Oldies" - Check them out!
Great video about Murray! I came from germany, so many people don't know singer like Billy Murray, Al Jolson, etc. Billy Murray introduced me to the old American singers, who are still my favorites today. Incidentally, my first presentation in English was about him.

Hes amazing and Im honestly surprised i like this music so much. Im rather young so its hard to explain the appeal to my peers. I'll send them this! Thank you
As one who practically strictly listens to this era, I’m glad to see such a fine presentation of his contributions to early recording. Murray certainly was a game changer defining some of the earliest aspects of how recording was done. I didn’t know he sold over 300 million records, but those 6-10,000 recordings are nearly on par with his counterparts from the 1890s which is something to behold, because in a single decade you’ll find that people like George J. Gaskin and George Washington Johnson recorded nearly 20,000 individual recordings due to the very limited processes of recording in that age.
I first found your channel a few years ago when out of boredom I decided to search for 1900s music to see what it sounded like. I remember the name "Billy Murray" showing up a lot in your lists, so I figured he must've been popular back then. I had no idea he was this successful. I'm really enjoying these videos about early recording artists, hope you keep this series up!

It makes me wonder if contemporary musicians like Drake and Justin Bieber will be remembered 100 years from now. I would love to make more videos like this in the future!
I love Billy Murray! My exposure to his music was in a WWI documentary I watched in 5th grade, which played a recording of him singing "Over There." I was captivated by his voice, but I wasn't able to find any of his music until many years later. His singing is as beautiful today as it was back when he was still alive

Love the music. The first recording that started me out was when I was a kid and they had an Edison cylinder display in downtown LA. I heard Billy Murray and Ada Jones sing Come Josephine in My Flying Machine and I was hooked from then on.

A lot of the visitors love it and ask me about him. But Billy needs to get out of the graveyard and entertain us all once again !

😊 Billy Murray is such a great guy. This type of music is really great. I wouldn't be too surprised if he was still alive right now but if people could make one of his songs in high Fidelity recording like most records, people would probably appreciate him more.
Billy mainly recorded the voice of Bimbo The Musical Dog in 1930 & recorded the voice of Tommy Cat. He would also provide his wonderful voice for alot of the early Fleischer Screen Songs from 1929 - the early 1930s. Billy is such a joy to listen to !! I highly recommend people to listen to his wonderful records !!

I don't like Billy Murray's singing much. His voice is slightly whiny and I can agree with that he is not a great singer like those critics. His songs give personality, but are not nice to the ear for hearing it. He sounds happy and excited, so is good to listen to on a bad day. But I can tell he is not putting in effort to sound the best. I'm exploring older music and he is everywhere in these two decades. Maybe the novelty he had for his style of singing, like the Beatles in the 60s, was his main appeal to people back then.
