www.abarabove.c... Before you use your new barrel for cocktails or spirits, it’s important to prepare it correctly. In this week’s video, we’ll show you how.
Much appreciated! I just received a 3L barrel for my birthday so this is very informative in getting the barrel ready before I age a cocktail. I'm thinking I will do a Boulevardier or Negroni.
Both of my 2 liter barrels have split spigots and both work just fine. Both are from Sophia's findings and any problem I've had with excessive leakage was immediately cured by melting natural beeswax in any problem spots, Mostly with staves on the first barrel but never the spigot, it's an easy fix or repair if needed. It's flexible to keep a good seal but repels liquid so it won't affect the flavor of your booze.
I loved my lil 2.2 ltr barrel. From Deep South Barrels. DO NOT let these dry out. I did Unfortunately the head did warp/ crack rendering it useless. I tried using sealing wax to reseal the head to no avail..It's too small I'm not skilled enough to refashion a new head. Which would probably cost more than new. Use a strong Sol of Sodium Metabisulphite for storage as I did the 5 ltr they sell.. Guess I'll just have to buy another Boo hoo. ( sarcasm) But I've got a cute planter too. Thanks for the Vid.
I love the idea of using these as planters when you are done with them. I may have to turn my old ones into planters since they have all dried out. I wonder if the residue from barrel aging Fernet will act like some kind of weird miracle grow. I feel like there is a bartender sci fi movie in the making.
Quick questions. Can I fill it up as much as it will go with hot water, bung it, and leave it sitting normally(sideways) or does it have to be filled only halfway with water and sitting upwards on its bottom while curing?
To new users, if possible use a plastic or rubber dead blow hammer, or just a rubber mallet to insert the spigot for less chance of damage.

You can make it yourself, just loook and learn from WoodPrix.
Making your own barrel sounds like a lot of fun, but I'm going to leave it to the professionals.
