Hi, I’m 14. What’s the best watch under £500?
Hamilton Khaki field auto/mechanical
Seiko Baby Turtle. If it has to be Swiss, maybe Tissot PRX quartz. But if you have small wrists because of your age i would recommend the 35mm version. If german is your thing Laco Augsburg 39.
Have a look at something like a Seiko Supercars.... fun, comes with 2 different straps and nice presentation/a limited run. Id second many other Seiko's or Hamiltons, but in my teens something with a bit of colour and multi purpose was fun, you may not need to be looking at dress watches yet, have a look under Dive, Sports and field instead
Glycine would by my pick, something different than the usual Seiko's and Hamiltons. They use Sellita and ETA movements. They also feel better made than Seiko's and more expensive Hamilton's. They can also be picked up much lower than their retail prices from non AD's online.
Don't buy Seiko, go Orient or Citizen
*Spectacular* timepiece.
I don't know why Breitling haven’t been banging this drum *hard* for years...
One of the best looking chronographs of all time imho & an unbeatable story.
@@MPD90
Whilst I get what you're saying Mike I don't necessarily agree. I'm not saying this is the *best* story, simply one of the *many* legendary and unbeatable, unsurpassable stories.
Yep, Apollo 13 is *another* unbeatable story. There are *loads* of unbeatable stories about the pioneering Cosmo/Astronauts, like Voshkod-2 having a mini, albeit slightly less dramatic 'Apollo 13" situation of it's own. And this is *after* Alexei Leonov's (first ever) EVA almost ended very badly.
I see all of these guys stories; Ed White, Dave Scott, Yuri Gagarin etc,. etc. as being incredible and unique & I love that we attach watches to them, like Hilary, Norgay & Everset or Aldrin & the Moon. These stories are a big part this hobby for me and trying to rank them is like picking your favourite kid!
Cheers mate.
I agree with Mike. The watch was “found in a drawer” because it’s an embarrassment, not a triumph. It’s great that they went to space, but they dropped the ball when they got in the game.
@@Iexpedite1
Come on... In fairness to the Cosmanaute it spent a few hours in the ocean & was never disassembled, cleaned, re-lubed & re-assembled. Almost *every* chronograph of the era - Speedmaster included - would look exactly the same today if it was treated like that & left in a drawer to rot for 50+ years!
✌🏼️
Kinda miss the times when there was a new Bark and Jack video every sunday 😕
I'm working on getting back to 1 a week, at least. There's enough content to do 2 a week.
On the other hand, fewer videos with a better Quality are also a Good option :) Nonetheless, you are the best watch UA-camr in my opinion :)
@@tim462 I would also settle for more frequent grainy/crap videos of Adrian reviewing Undone watches…………..😂
I had been wondering where he had disappeared too.
@@mikesomerset6338 videos take time to make. He's probably busy doing several projects at once
Rolex fan here - Absolutely stunning. Definitely top 3 of the list (if production version arrives)
Kick ass piece of content.
Well done 👍🏽 ❤️
Fantastic watch! Great history telling.
Im such a big fan of the navitimer with my favourite one being the 806
Would love to see Seiko do something similar with the ‘Pogue’. That watch has incredible space heritage too.
It may be my faulty memory, but I thought Seiko did do something with the Pogue?
Although what became known as the Seiko "Pogue" was used by 3 astronauts in NASA training, it was only used during the 84 days long Skylab-4 space station mission between November 1973 and February 1974.
NASA forgot about Charles Conrad Glycine Airman automatic pilot watch, used during Gemini V and Gemini XI, not only the first automatic wrist watch in space, but also the first automatic watch to be exposed to outer space on Gemini XI.
Astronaut Thomas Stafford offered a Movado DataChron automatic chronograph to US Marine Corps astronaut Gerald Carr, who snuck it into space during that same Skylab-4 space station mission. So both Movado & Seiko had the first automatic chronograph in space, both working flawlessly.
Between 1971 and 1981, Apollo 15 astronaut James Irwin was often photographed wearing a Seiko chronograph. Photos on MoonwatchUniverse Archive ! 🧐
@@phmwu7368 that’s really great info, I didn’t know this. Thanks for sharing ☺️
It is surprisingly easy to get used to a 24-hour dial. I have one on an old Raketa that also has a second time zone bezel. It might actually be my favorite “GMT” implementation, honestly. Set the watch itself to UTC and use the bezel to show local time. When you need a different local time, rotate the bezel. Unambiguous 24-hour time, no problem.
Kind of wish Breitling would at least match the Speedmaster’s 50m WR rating.
I don't care about the stories. This watch is more attractive than a Moonwatch for me.
I don't know about all the fluff but it's a lovely looking watch and you don't see many Navis around nowadays.
Would be interested in a production version. I have a 24 hour dial and it is fun. You need to think it through when you look at the dial but in a really interesting way.
Awesome video Adrian. Was great seeing you there and I'm excited to see if they are really going to launch an unlimited Cosmonaute 😁. ✌🏻.
Maybe Omega dominates the whole ”space story”… but Accutron was the real dominant force in space. Bulova has a story too. But Accutron was everywhere in the space industry. On almost EVERY flight.
Breitling has made another pretty watch.
Beautiful, I want one !
Love it! If there is an « accessible » version, I will look at it. I own a 24h dial watch and I wish there would be more.
Thats one hell of a sexy watch. Thanks for sharing! - good content is worth waiting for. I just bought the Tudor BB Chrono, and as I can see the same movement is in my watch. 10.000 CHF Breitling -> 3500 CHF. Made my day :D
the first man in space was: Juri Gagarin
They should make one out of plastic and sell it in limited location only.
Great to see you back, good video mate!
Also as a side note any space watch is a great marketing piece for any watch company nowadays.
If I was a ceo of a watch company that has the credentials I would be selling the living sh*t out of it. Just like the Speedmaster, Boluva lunar pilot and the gerlach.
What’s the middle navitimer called with the orange hands?
Many thanks Adrian, again a nice, interesting and short video. Thanks again Mate. 🙂
How is the B02 movement in-house? Isn't it a Kenissi movement? Wasn't there a technology transfer with Tudor?
Not for the chronograph. There it is the other way around. Tudor Chrono is equipped with an Breitling manufacture movement.
The B02 is based on the B01 and the B01 manufacture movement is used in the black bay chrono.
Damn cool man 😎
First watch in space appears to be soviet Strela. I dont understand marketing campaign around first watch in space.
Scott Carpenter went on to become an Aquanaut, testing Rolex Submariner and Rolex Sea Dweller diving watches in US Navy underwater habitat Sealab .
In 1962, US Navy Lt Scott Carpenter flew on Mercury 7, nicknamed "Aurora 7" and this was his sole spaceflight mission. So no need to show the huge white 111m high Saturn V launch vehicle used during Apollo lunar missions !
🤔
There wasn’t any footage of Mercury 7, and limited photos. So I used footage from other missions to set the scene.
Nice footage
Seiko sarb 33 or 35 if you can still find one
Billy big time now. 1 video every fortnight
More like Billy no mates. I run this channel on my own a long with my shop. Creating content of this level takes time, and unlike most other channels, I don't have a team behind me making the content for me. Although I'm hoping to hire an editor soon.
This is a little silly. It isnt the first watch in space. It is the first Swiss watch in space. The first Japanese watch is space is Seiko. Seiko 6139 automatic chronograph. Bit silly you can anything first if you add another thing to it.
Is it my interest in watches fading away, or are other people also not impressed by a vintage Breitling destroyed by water ?
Another limited piece that hardly anyone will wear since most will be flipped by resellers for 4x the MSRP.
No one ever landed on the moon, EVER
🤦♂️
Wrong , first watch in the universe is wo wooo wooooleeex😭😭😭😭😭
Not meaning to be rude…… but who cares?
Buy any watch and take it on a zero gravity flight.
That’s as near as any watch that guys own will get to being on the moon.
Not going to do that though are you?
That would involve spending money and making an actual effort!! 🤣🤣🤣
I can't endorse unnecessary air-miles just for a watch launch.
I am with you on this one. Key business meetings, love ones you haven’t seen for a while, are understandable reasons for pushing tens of tons of Jet A-1 in an airplane turbines.
A gathering of YT influencers listening to a watch brand CEO presenting a new timepiece less than 400 people will buy is not.
Most people still live in the dream that keeping the lifestyle we used to have is okay, provided you spend a few £ to compensate your flight emissions. When reality and actual cost of energy transition will hit back, the wake-up call will be painful.
Scott Carpenter was not the first man in space. Where did that information come from? There were at least 5 men who made it to space before him.
I'm not sure, maybe too much coffee and too little sleep. I've removed that part now. Cheers.
I love 24 h watches. Having a Russian sturmanskie, a Swedish akerfalk, and a Swiss glycine airman, this launch was significant and I really hope it will have a regular version because the pricetag was beyond reasonable for me. Thanks for the presentation.
Fingers crossed they do a plastic version that is even harder to get hold of.
🤣
I could never get used to the 24 hour dial. That said, the Navitimer deserves its spot next to the Speedie and Daytona as one of the most iconic chronographs.
The speedie is iconic because of why it was worn, the Daytona is only iconic because of by whom it was worn, and now only because of its pricetag...
Hi Adrian, was Gagarins 'Sturmanskie' not the first watch that made it into space...?
The language is first "Swiss" watch in space.
If I could create a watch it would be a 24 hour watch but the noon (12) marker would be at top instead of bottom
And it would have a dial similar the deepsea sea dweller to represent day and night
No any technical problem from that arrangement.
I'm sorry but what is the point of a launch for a watch that you already sold? This is what I hate about these companies.
I agree. The size of the launch was odd given the offering.
It looks ten times better than a Speedmaster. Too bad it's limited and absurdly priced.
So they never fixed the water resistance issue! Nice one 😒
FYI First man in space was Yuri Gagarin dude.
Nice watch BTW.
I recently acquired a vintage Cosmonaute Navitimer that hails from the same year as my birth, that being 1965, which was only 2 years after Scott Carpenter completed his mission. I love the history, the science behind it and the piece itself. It's great to see this release as it will no doubt generate more interest in the model and quite possibly raise the value of my watch- not that I am ever selling it. It is an outstanding piece that is the same age as I am and THAT is for me a priceless connection with this important piece of horological history. Thank you so much for sharing this video!
Awesome video. Any chance you’re planning to do an in depth look at the new 2022 navitimer or the 2020 Chronomat b01? Breitling is just class these days, return to former glory
Great video. The event was superb. Are they stepping on Omega's toe's possibly but the Navitimer Cosmonaut was the first Swiss wristwatch in space and I think they have a right to advertise as such. Breitling don't make enough if there early heritage. It was a pleasure to meet you at the event.
Funny how they have this argument between Omega and Breitling BUT it was actually a Heuer that was the FIRST watch in space....
Ew, tell Breitling you're not going if you have to wake up at 6:15am. ;) Joking aside, FANTASTIC VIDEO! I've learned so much about a watch I really should have known more about. :O You rock, A!
I think it's actually more attractive than the Speedmaster. Seems ridiculous to make it in such limited numbers and at 25% higher price than the Omega, with the only added feature being the date function.
Agreed.
Breitling is overpriced.
The Speedmaster offers an objectively better movement - on a very good bracelet - for less money! The only thing the Navi Cosmo does better is look pretty...
That said; I'd own one in a flash!
Bruce Williams presented a new Speedmaster Chronoscope yesterday. It's a bicompax layout that looks quite cool. A bit like a artillery chrono from the 40s. But the Navitimer is THE chronograph no doubt.
@@nickcheema907 the movement is not very attractive in any way. It is clearly an afterthought to make it handwound. The architecture is ugly as can be and the finishing is just simple machine finishing at this price level. Not better than the 3861’s
Thank you for the video. I have been collecting for a couple years now, and the Breitling Navitimer just hit my radar. I like the Space history of the watch, but I like the utility of the dial the most. Most people don't know what all the numbers on the dial are used for, and this should be explained better by the company. Breitling is on the right track, and needs to advertise more and tell their story to new collectors like me. Great video!
Cool back story, but as with all navitimers it's a bit too cluttered for my tastes
Well... the first man in space was Yuriy Gagarin. And he was wearing watches named Sturmanskie. But it was quite usual soviet watches. This Breitling looks much more interesting)
A bit misleading to say that Scott Carpenter is the first man to space when it was actually Yuri Gagarin from the USSR become the first man to space wearing his Sturmanskie/Poljot watch with him.
Im sorry but its just sad that we don't celebrate the accomplishments of others other than the west, rarely we see people celebrate Yuri Gagarin or even Valentina Tereshkova. If you are really into space watches, I recommend checking out Sturmanskie after Russia leaves Ukraine.
Mr. Carpenter was the 3rd American in space, after Alan Shepard’s sub-orbital mission and John Glenn’s Earth orbit mission. I think the point is that the Breitling was the first Swiss watch in space. Breitling should definitely play that up more!
Yeah I got that wrong. I'm not sure where I got that from. I've removed that part now.
We definitely need to see a regular production version, and this is a cool story. They should take full advantage of it.
I absolutely love my Navitimer Heritage and it will always be in my collection. Simply beautiful to look at and a Flyback movement to boot. 👍👍
Only 362 of them! Well it's at least nice to see the video of them
Great Video as always!!
I am a huge fan of chronographs and the Navitimer has always been my favourite watch. So I bought the previous model this year since I didn’t really liked the new models. Anyway the cosmonauts maybe would have changed my mind back then 😅
Nevertheless I appreciate that Breitling is finally telling this great story now and that the Navitimer gets the attention it deserves
Second
😭 7:04 it says 425,- Deutsche Mark. Thats 212,50€ now. 😀 Good old Times.
I thought sure this story was going to end with “...and so Brietling increased the water resistance to 50m”
Wait, are you saying that Omega watches went into space? Never heard of such a thing. Sounds implausible to me.
original watch goes to space, survives, falls into water, damage. new release decades later, still 30m WR :|
No complaints. Although this would be a pocket watch.
No way to fit on the 6 inches wrist.
Just an opinion, but it should read 02, 04, & 08 for aesthetics...
Wow . I have just done the same flight on Saturday morning ! City airport is a great little airport, worth checking their destinations . Went to a function at Dolder Grand , great hotel next time ur in Zurich .
Nice vid, thanks
Hey Adrian, curious non-watch related question: Do you use the active stabilization or catalyst browse when vlogging on the A7iv
So many possible “watches in Space.” Sturmanskie, Bulova, Seiko, and Fortis. They are all fun and up till now, they have all been far less than the Omega Speedmaster. Now we see the Brietling story. We shall see what happens next.
As a kid who grew up during the Space Race, I couldn’t be happier even if the watches are generally out of reach.
If this was an attack on Omega, then Breitling would have released the Cosmonaute Navi as a regular production model without a platinum bezel. I hope that Breitling does exactly this - offer this Cosmonaute in all steel and keep the price the same as the regular Navi. Let the customer choose if they want a 24hr dial or 12hr dial. I would buy a Cosmonaute to pair with my Speedy 3861.
I'm confused, if this is Adrian then who is bark and who is Jack?!
first watch in space, first panda dial … they have the grandad of both the Daytona and Speedmaster
2022 Navitimers are already a brilliant (albeit quiet) release, more refined more wearable, looks sharper and cleaner and not losing the Navitimer touch (Any chance to cover them on this channel). This handwound version is even sexier and more desirable
It'd be wrong to not milk the sheep out of the first Swiss watch in space story
Nice little side fact for those of a certain age - Scott in Thunderbirds was named after Scott Carpenter
Cheese on toast ....who cares about a watch in space a fake astronaut presenting a watch at the show and all that malaky. Just a watch that is accurate and waterproof is what most people want and that watch couldn't even manage that !
What might you need an ND filter for when you’re going to an indoors event and an airport??
I hate limited edition watches.
I watch this for the story… I could not care less about the limited edition.
I own this watch on bracelet, I bet no one knows why only 362 pieces made.
WYLER VETTA JUMBOSTAR number 1
Can you make videos like this but about omega! Would be very cool
I love the 24-hour scale as opposed to 12-hour scale. Make it in stainless steel.
Perhaps time for a 'watches and space travel' video, comprising all of the contenders. Then put it to public vote. Bit of fun?
I think as a limited edition it isn't an attack on omega unless the release a production version
Check out the Peak Design camera straps. Game changers.
Isn’t the Strela the watch worn by Gagarin?
You learn a little something every day, I just did.
Nice watch, Great story but the eye sight not being what it once was. Too busy
I hope they literally said "watch this space" and intended the puns
Stepping on Omega's toes ?
What about the Russian-made Shturmanskie watches issued to cosmonauts in the early 1960s? Also nobody is ever talking about the Russian-made Poljot "Flight" 3133 chronograph or the Shturmanskie "Navigator" 31659 chronographs 🤔
The 3133 was worn during at least 22 Soyuz missions and the 31659 during 10 Soyuz flights, so worn by 44 cosmonauts between September 1976 (Soyuz 22) and January 1993 (Soyuz TM-16). These watches were still used in training in 1995 ! #MoonwatchUniverse
Within the watchmarket the Speedmaster is the only significant space watch. Of course there have been many before that were notable, but right now it’s the Speedmaster.
received mine 2 days ago, amazing watch
Hi Adrian, thanks for an excellent video. A steel version of this watch would be cool, even more so if it had screw down crown and pushers to keep it safe on future space flights... 😀
Wasn't the first man in space, might want to make an edit
So they launch a "Space" watch that failed????
Did they at least raise the water resistance this time? Lol
Thats a really cool Story!
Really cool. Ill have this in a production model with with sub dial. For a anniversary LE , They did keep
It safe. Why not try to make a dial that looks like the seawater recovered one
Fun video, thank you!
First minute in: Cranky without your coffee. You’re in good company.
Haha.
This watch is sexy. I like it alot.
