Thank you for making this available. Inoue Sensei is clearly a class act. Even though I'm a Shotokan karateka, I have to admit that I really enjoy watching top shelf Sensei from other schools demonstrating & explaining their methods and their reasoning. I find it's good to think out of the square. Hopfully it helps to improve my own karate.
That's true Karate spirit dear Bill... be open-minded and always "steal" from others sensei, not necessarily from your own style! That's the way to improve!
Sensei is dropping some serious knowledge here, especially on the juji-uke applications. I knew it involved a gedan barai/gyaku tsuki combination, but never though about how it can be used to defend and counter a kick simultaneously.
Great sensei clear and effective
Super thankyou
Great video thank you 🙏
Thank you for this excellent short video. Just a small correction - this is actually the Shito-ryu Heian Godan, rather than the traditional Pinan Godan. In any case, great learning opportunity.
FYI - it is Pinan. The Original name of the series. Some changed the name to Heian series like Shotokan.
Inoue Sensei kept the original Chinese reading for the characters 平安 in Inoue-ha's basic Kata.
The same for the use of SU-DACHI, instead of Moto-dachi. This comes from the basic Kata learned by his teacher Teruo Hayashi from Kosei Kuniba. Hayashi-ha also changed to Moto-dachi but Inoue Sensei kept SU-DACHI because it enables students to practice advanced hip vibration techniques like KIRIMOROSHI from the very beginning.

As a lifetime martial artist and karateka, I respect Yoshimi’s kata performance and sharp efficient movement. A joy watch, learn and perform, but those applications are neither efficient or effective. No one would ever stop a fast powerful front kick like that let alone punch the leg at the same time. The reality is that bunkai was never taught in Shito-ryu / Shorin-ryu. It was a relatively recent development. The defence of the rigid front punch, kick etc is the failing of modern karate. It is a performance. Nothing wrong with that as long as practitioners are not deceived or deceiving themselves that they are learning some magical way to defend themselves.
Shito-ryu but no jump with the gedan uke - I guess it depends on the school. Most don't like the jump coz it puts you off balance. Especially me as a big man.
💪💪👍👍👍
interesting to see how highly different from shotokan this is in form as well as application. yet the block for kicks is still a bit ridiculous, i guess i stay with muay thai blocks for kicks... (karate somehow shuns blocking with legs in it's bunkai, which i find very irritating, mostly because i believe it is very much there... but on the other hand, most people seem to think, there are no throws also, which is equally blind...) though personally i keep my eyes open for a better explanation of that technique... i think it would work, if you realize what's coming early on and step into/around the kick, catching it while not being "in the way" of it. but in that case: why blocking at all, not just hiting hard on the knee? it's still a mystery. :D

5:34 is hard to grasp whats really is going on. Must find myself another arm for practice
Well, another arm would be ideal for practice ! :-)
Anyway, I have many other videos of Inoue... but some people around the world don't want me to share this knowledge... I hope to get this problem fixed asap.
Om han håller på länge, blir det en katamaran då? ;-)
Förlåt men jag fick bara den associationen av hans gi tror jag.
Det finns en del "krutgubbar" roligt att se.
Bonjorno !
Still don't get how he is blocking and then blocks then with like a butterfly block or something can someone explain?
There's not really a good reason. Inoue Sensei is top tier when it comes to body mechanics and technique (even if some oddball pet theory that is part and parcel of Japanese and Korean karate sneaks in). However, a lot of the application shown is either a stretch or simply incorrect. While it's important to note that usually not only a single application is correct, this is a symptom of the Japanese (and everyone beyond) inheriting only part of a system and making their best guesses.

ピンアンなの?平安じゃなく?
it was interesting until momoent when he show bunkai/ ry to do uchi-uke like this in real figth. Rigth strigth in shin against mae giri&? really?
What ridiculous useless crap. I've seen other videos of him that made me think he had a clue... Lost so much respect for him...
We practice kata for reflexes and good posture in real fight is about instincs but you are so stupid that you can’t appreciate greatness
Mr. Alessandro Timmi,
there are no words that can thank you , SIr, for the precious moments of enjoying Soke Johsimis´s unfoogettable presentation.
It is an injustice of world not to have him longer here among us. May God help him doing it on in the heaven. and for us R.I.P. anbdThank you. Paul, 67, retired instructor of karate.
