Thank you guys so much for watching this video. Do yourself a huge favor and give this album a listen. Even if you've heard it already. Listen to it again
Words can’t express how much this album means to me. I became a fan of him after To See the Next Part of the Dream, and since I’m korean I got to see him live, too. Him gaining a cult popularity in both the west and inside of korea was a hopeful reminder that in a day and age of algorithms, tiktoks, and viral marketing, people are still being drawn to genuine human emotion. And then when After the Magic came out, I was blown away. He could’ve easily made another shoegaze album in a similar vein to TSTNPOTD, but he chose not to repeat himself, but to rather continue to grow and mutate his style into something so magical. It’s also lyrically much more hopeful and less depressing. It’s as if he finally realized that there are people out there that are eager to listen to what he expresses, and he’s now finally singing and doing the things he wanted to do for a long, long time. God I love this album.
Now you should listen to the live album where he literally improves every single song and has a Fishmans-type closer (that closer being 46 minutes long)
@@KyleReidMu yeah that comparison is brought up a lot on online music forums (RYM and AOTY for example) but i don't really agree. The only real thing they have in common is a long and epic closer but it sounds completely different than 98.12. It's a lot more lo-fi and DIY but in a good way, it's my AOTY at the moment, with liturgy's 93696 as a close second.
@@MichellBollinger no its because parannoul literally said he was inspired by 98.12.28. parannoul himself wanted to try to make a similar experience to what fishmans accomplished. also both are live albums, both are filled with tracklists with improved songs, and a 40+ minute track based on a shorter version
"We Shine At Night" has been one of my favourite songs of the year since it dropped. I love the first half and how dreamy and almost melancholic it is. then in the second half the guttural energy from his vocal is just so strong and the translation just makes it all the more powerful. "It's not over yet, lets go back home." Crazy track and album.
For this album he used some of the virtual instruments (gazey guitar, drums) but the strings and some of the strumming guitar for example is all real (trumpets too)
Damn, an "out of body experience" is a good way to put it. One of the most atmospheric albums I've listened to and probably a top 3 album for me this year. Excited to check out Parannoul's earlier work and the live album.
parannoul is slowly becoming one of my favorite artists, after the night, to see the next part of the dream and this record are all 9-10 and with every record it feels like his production and music just grows more and more it’s so fucking good.
Parannoul consistenly manages to build up these long aethereal or even noisy sounds that then explode into the most beautiful melody you've ever heard. It's not from this album but I think Soft Bruise is THE Parannoul song which does it the best (even though it leans more towards a noisy/grungy sound). At the beginning the wall of sound literally sounds like a race car, which then transforms into this sweet alt-rock melodic guitar sound. Then he builds up tension again and it hits you with the guitar melody at 2:15. And then he builds up tension a second time to finally release it by using this bombastic guitar sound at 3:47. These melodies are not just for chilling in your room and listening to it on headphones, many of his songs are actually dancable (at least parts of them): On "White Ceiling - demo" you need to listen from 3:25 to 4:00. When I first heard that song I was like HOLY SHIT that came out of nowhere and had no business being that good. And if you listen to the song "White Ceiling" (which is a completely different song than the demo version) he again uses a beautiful synthesizer melody from 5:00 to 5:25. These melodies just creates this edge in his songs and set it apart from other bands who have a similar sound but are bland and boring.
somebody get Mr. Parannoul to make a film soundtrack Also, unrelated, but does anyone remember when he made a Bodys and All my Friends mashup? This guy's one of us!
I can’t get over how cool it is that someone can redefine what a genre can be TWICE using (mostly) just a laptop Ik that sounds pretentious or whatever but it’s just so cool to me, I love the internet
After the Magic is an otherworldly record full of details, with an outstanding production by Parannoul. I got sucked into a world nearby the other end of the milky way where everything is full of brightness and perfection.
Thanks for the suggestion. I will probably take your fav and see how it is. Keep going if all feels well. I just got to this tonight, but I knew it was waiting.
not really in the same vein, but The Redshift Blues by Disspirited Spirits is a very fun space rock prog rock jazz rock midwest emo thing going on, its gorgeous
Fantastic ass album. Gotta say my fav is Sound Inside Me, Waves Inside You. Also really love Insomnia, Polaris, Parade. Listened to him for 16k minutes this year 😭

This and the new Billy Woods album "maps" are my two favorite records this year. If you haven't heard that one check it out.
after the night Kyle, listen to that
Video 4 of asking Kyle Reid to Review Blood Visions by Jay Reatard
Just got this album in vinyl arriving to my country (had to ship from the US and then Colombia). i ended up sobbing lmao
haven’t finished the video just yet but if you haven’t then you NEED to also listen to after the night if you liked this
Crazy how Parannoul made the best album of this year and then managed to take his own spot with another album. Generational talent.

I saw someone say the live album is like the modern day 98.12.28 which is super intriguing
@@KyleReidMu PLEASE LISTEN TO IT!

the comparison is kinda just because it’s a long performance by an asian artist lol

Never knowing what any of the lyrics mean but still feeling the emotion is part of the magic.

Arrival is so underrated because I don’t understand how people don’t see it as a song of the decade contender
the guitar solo crazyyy

Phenomenal and fantastic video as per usual Kyle :)
Thanks Anthony :)
@@KyleReidMu you are very welcome, Kyle anytime :)
can we get the longinus guys (parannoul, asian glow, sonhos tomam conta, brokenteeth, della zyr, etc.) to make an album together? please?
Actually della zyr started making music due to being inspired by parannoul in her teenage
Fantastic ass album. Gotta say my fav is Sound Inside Me, Waves Inside You. Also really love Insomnia, Polaris, Parade. Listened to him for 16k minutes this year 😭
parannoul said his next album is gonna be very noisy unlike this masterpiece of an album which I’m personally very excited for
Is it a hot take to call this shoegaze?
Also shoegaze is the weighted blanket of music, heavy and comforting (mostly).
I’ve always considered parannoul to be shoegaze but then again I haven’t listened to much shoegaze so idk
he be shoegazin fr
did you ever try mid air thief?
AOTY
Yo
yeah sound awesome
