Hello! I just wanted to ask a question since I just got my first pair of pointe shoes today. So, where exactly am I suppose to sew the ribbons? Edit: Btw I loved your video (very helpful)
Instead of doing 4 ribbons, I like to do one on each foot that’s double the size and goes in the middle also. It helps with your pointe by forcing you to pointe when you go up.
Thanks so so so so much! You went into to much detail it was so helpful! I just got my very first pair of pointe shoes yesterday and I have no idea how to do this lol!
I was always under the impression that ribbons were intended to pull the arch of the shoe to support the arch of your foot. Is there any reason why you sew the ribbons so far up the shoe and not where the arch is?
When you sewed all the way through the shoe to the satin and didn't just sew to the lining 😫😥😔 NOOOOO! That makes me die inside a little bit. The outside of the shoe should remain untouched.
which side of the ribbon should be in contact with my ankle? my stretch ribbon has a shiny side and a rough side and I'm not sure which way I should sew it on
my shoe only came with one elastic, what do i do? i dont know if im supossed to cut the elastic cuz hes bigger than yours in the video, or if it was an error
when I did pirouettes (because I ve stopped ballet unfortunately, but I am abt to restart soon ;) I felt that I d hope a bit too much to get in releve, and for the same reason I felt unsafe when closing 5th at the end, a little awkward and prone to fall. I ve been trained Vaganova technique and RAD, and both Schools insist to jump into releve, especially in pointe.
I’m a nanny of a little ballerina 😊 and I’ve always wondered why they don’t just already come how they are to be used… why don’t the stretch out the shoes and have the ribbons sewed on beforehand? I just don’t get it😅
I have a question, so the drawstrings on pointe shoes, I've seen a lot of professionals not really have them, do they cut the drawstrings elastics off or tuck them in? I find them very annoying on flat balls shoes (I'm not en pointe yet but in a few months I might be!!)
I’m currently debating wether to sow on my ribbons or not because I did get told when buying my point shoes that different studios will have you sow them on in different places Edit: I’m 11 and don’t know how to sow
Quick question when you see your ribbon/ elastics do you go thro all the the fabric (like you can see a sticks from the outside) or do you only go thro the first layer of your pointe shoes?
Hi - any advice for ribbon that is baggy around front of foot but stays (too) tight around ankle? I was going to buy the ribbon with the built in elastic but I had already sewn the regular satin ribbon on and they just are super baggy. I sewed them on an angle too.
Almost sounds like too much or not enough of an angle. Once you know where you're going to place it, slip your foot in to give you the idea of the exact angle maybe?
+Lazy Dancer Tips , do you have to sew the elastic around your ankle or can you sew it kind of in the same place as the ribbon and if so where would you put the ribbon higher or lower than the elastic😘😘😘👯👯
Hi Ladies, thanks you for your message. In This video as you can see i have includes 2 versions of sewing elastics, you will found what works for you as soon as you try your shoes on. It doesn't really matter where ribbons and elastics are sewn, as long as they are comfortable for you. Always measure your elastic around your ankle so it won't be too tight or too lose. All the best, Ciao Alessia :)
So the thing is my frost pair they sewed them a week later they ribbon snapped so I will learn for my second but I’m going to wait so I do t have to get a new pair by the show 😊
thanks so much ur a life saver, one question about the elastics though, can i do both options on my shoes because I really want them to be secure, but im not sure if there is anything wrong with it
not really , it's just to give you a rough idea of length. You don't want to cut them too short and not being able to wrap them around your ankle :) Ciao Alessia
Hey, I was wondering, my left foot is weaker than my right, so my right shoe is softer than my left, should I swap so I use the softer shoe on my left to prolong their life or should I keep my left shoe harder to support its weaknesses?
Hi Ursula , personally I always found that swapping shoes around felt like wearing underpants back to front, LOL. Let's get serious now! Obviously you have noticed that your left is weaker than your right, and it's something that shouldn't be overlooked. You must try to strengthen that foot asap before an injury happens. Every time you do a strengthening exercise make sure you always do 4 or 5 rep more on the weaker side, otherwise your strongest side will get stronger and your weaker one won't improve! There isn't much you can do about the shoes, everyone has got one that will mush quicker than the other. You can try to prolong their life by adding glue and water and letting it dry overnight. I think, for now, for you it's good to see how your shoes are braking so that you can work on your muscles. You should be able to sustain yourself, don't let the shoe do all the work for you! Let me know how it goes ! Ciao Alessia
Try the strengthening exercises i have for lower legs and feet , do them everyday, concentrate on all the parts of the foot, toes included, remember you are standing on those tiny-winy platforms! :D
Hello :) thank you for your videos! I have a question that may sound stupid: i’m starting on pointe. I wantex to know if it is a good idea or if its useful to cut the satin at the top of the box of my pointe shoes for a better grip. I’m not very strong yet and struggle with échappés so would that be bad? Thank you! :)
Hi Alessia. I asked this question before other ballet bloggers' videos but I have no answer still from them... I had last times some ballet classes on pointe finally, but I have no idea how I should lift up myself on one leg in pointe shoes (eleve) (not all girls are doing this class on pointe shoes so I haven't seen the rest)?! Or maybe I misunderstood something (I live abroad and class is in foreign language). I have no problem with my feet strength or balance but really I don't know what to do now. I tried to find on internet something about it (one leg eleve in pointe shoes) but I have nothing. If something like this exists, how I should work to lift myself without plie (on both legs it's not a problem of course)? I work on my feet, ankles and calves strength, with you, with other bloggers, by myself at the gym... but I don't feel the difference at all. Please help:(
Hi Magda! Eleves on one foot are not easy, but i'm sure you will get there soon. Start with doing them parallel, in front of the barre, make sure you are not sitting on your supporting leg. Go through your demi-pointe but don't get stuck there or you'll lose the momentum to go to full pointe. For now help yourself with your hands on the barre, you might feel that you'll hop up rather that smoothly rise, then bit by bit, start with using only four or two fingers on the barre, therefore the back of your legs, bum and abs will work more and more and your metatarsal will gain more strenght. Let me know how you get on! Ciao Alessia :)
Thank you Maddy for answering to Trisha! If you ladies need help with anything else please let me know, i'd be more than happy to help out! Ciao :) Alessia
For those who aren't sure with burning or are scared to do it, you can always just use clear nail polish to prevent the ribbons from fraying :)
