OMG! I had no idea Amazon Dry Goods was still around! I lived for their catalogs back in the ‘80’s when I first got hooked on historical fashion! And I just promised to make my daughter a corset so this information is a godsend after googling corset supplies and getting nowhere. Thank you!

I realize that doesn't guarantee that my experience will be successful but since I'm leery about shopping with new sites, I wouldn't have purchased from these vendors even if I had know of them.
10 million years ago in a previous life I helped a couple friends out repairing fashion type corsets and corset making supplies was super awesome to work with, they helped me make sure that the replacement busk was going to fit in the existing holes (original busk popped a peg)

My first "historical" costume was a Margo's. 1540 Tudor gown. I love her patterns! I've also made my husband a doublet and breeches from her Gentlemen's set. Her sizes are inclusive and show you how to combine sizes when different body areas have big measurement differences. I would recommend for beginners to advanced.

You might want to put Burnley and Trowbridge under 'supplies', if only because they carry the elusive and wonderful artificial whalebone (SUPER different from the plastic junk you buy at most craft or fabric stores). Some people are always going to prefer steel, naturally.
I am really tired and not feeling well so was finding it hard to concentrate. I was sort of just zoning out and looking at all the pretty without really registering. Then I heard free hat box pattern and perked right up. Awhile ago I repurposed a hatbox to hold all my embroidery hoops. It works so well and makes me very happy but I have one hoop thats just too big. When I think about how its all but one together in a single place I get twitchy. Ive wanted a larger box but wasn't willing to buy one when what I have works well enough. But making one? Making Im down for because in making I learn things. Incase my tired unwell self failed to remember I stopped the video to put this out there along with so much gratitude. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Ohhh 😮 got my pattern and kit from Redthreaded just in time before sailing out. Was waiting on the other supplies not provided in kit and a bit of time to get working on my first corset. I hope to end up with something I can be proud of if not perfect.

Yay buying guide! What I’m doing? Completely unrelated! lol I ordered an inkle loom off of Etsy and it came today! I took an extra long dinner break to put my current tablet weaving wip on it. Oh! I did go to Christmas in the Park on Saturday! I wasn’t able to link up with my friends and be on the phone with them. :( It was lovely, but I think I would have enjoyed it more if I’d had someone in the car with me. Oh well, we’ll see what they do next year (and how things look by next winter too!)

I remember them as Amazon Drygoods & Pickling Works in the 90s, but I believe the actual name was Amazon Vinegar & Pickling Works Drygoods. The patterns they carried were a godsend when I costumed a local high school play. This was around the birth of the web, and certainly before I or anyone I knew had a personal computer, so the only way I found them was through the library. I had to call them to request a catalog be mailed to me. Lord, do I feel old!
I have pondered a while on buying som pdf-patterns, but the shops I have looked at are US based and I am in Europe, and from what I understand we use different paper sizes. I wonder if someone knows how big of an issue that is when printing the pattern out and getting the right size? Or if there are some historical pdf-patterns that are sold in Europe and work with A4-paper?

I just watched this (actually I think I rewatched it) I always swore I would make the clothes but NEVER A CORSET! As they say never say never. I just made my first (theoretically its a mock up, but I may have taken it too far ... I bound the edges for example). I dont really know how to take it from mock up to the real thing I do think it ended up a it too big. I have had a lot of difficulty inserting the grommets. Do you have a video or any advice on this ? I know you use a press ... I'm just not sure how many corsets are in my future. I tried 3 different plier type tools ...

Farthingales. In Canada is fabulous. I've been using them for years . Never had a problem. They have a great stock. Products arrive quickly.
Past Patterns is great for everything nineteenth-mid-twentieth c! I love their patterns, and their historical accuracy is top quality

Plied tools are garbage. It hammer and die setter or a press. Don’t ever use pliers for anything that involves clothes!
