Miss this life.. I used to run against Matt. I remember I ran into him in a wheat field after he won state in IL and he actually knew who I was and stopped to talk to me in the middle of our runs out in the forest preserve. It was like meeting Forrest freakin Gump. Dude was an absolute legend.
It definitely does! Cross Country is a Mental and physical sport. Takes great deal of determination to succeed in cross country! I ran it for 2 years and it changed my life in many ways! GO XC!
@bathtownship He went to Wisconsin and was a four time all american in cross country. His Freshman year was his best with a 9th place finish at the NCAA D1 National Championship. He didn't get any better because of his struggles with some injuries.
"and as i was coming up on shadrick we crossed the street and he gave me a look back...i looked him in the eye and i knew i could take him. i knew i could go after it" words of a fucking badass runner. all guts.
+axlrosea675 but remember there are two kinds of " westerns" : Nordics and mediterraneans, and these two types of western men are very different on their physical looks... so I think that is more accurate to call him Nordic than " western" ( ethnically speaking )
***** i really don't care, fine with me. i was thinking more of the runner stereotype in one's head. as a kid, almost nobody i knew seriously practiced running. we all were in soccer, tennis, etc. and i'm a white european.
For ur reference: 1. Withrow=Top ten in NCAA XC sophomore yr, 13:25 5K before age 20, 2. Galen Rupp-2time Olympian, silver medalist, US's top distance runner today 3. Shadrak Kiptoo-Top-level runner @ NCAA level for UNM/Oregon contributing to team championship & a couple top ten finishes 4. Josh McDougal-somewhere in 13:20 range for 5k, NCAA champ 4 yrs later outkicking Rupp 5. Ben True-6th in world recently, 4th at US Trials last wk 6. Ryan Deak-Amounted to nothing 7. Eagon-Contributor to UW...
Oh I didn't realize that you were talking about specific people at the beginning with the ballerness comment, obviously galen the one with the tent and kiptoo being the kenyan.
team title, decent college runner 8. Christian Wagner-not very good college runner from Oregon 9. Victor Gras-Went to Michigan, disappointment 10. Garrett Heath-consistently 1 of US's top milers for last few years, qualified for '10 world championships 11. Mo Trafeh-Highly successful on US running circuit 12. Brad Hardraker-Not sure 13. Andy Bumbalough-Finished 4th at US Olympic trials '12, 5th last week, 14. Scott McPherson-Had a few good times at Arkansas 15. Evan Garber-Not sure
@barchetta575m Actually not only is it a physical and mental sport but also its one of the most challenging sport out there. Most people don't realize it but cross country is the strongest sport out there. All people focus on in high school is football or something else, cross country is a beautiful sport that hardly gets notice, don't you think? (if you really think about it, our brain is the most powerful muscle in our body)
You have no idea how hard these kids had just pushed themselves. to the point of collapsing. And your saying hes raping the ref. He's just trying stay standing
thats the point in the race when just real guts comes out. you cant train the drive to win. thats true talent. good for him he deserves that win. cheap shot at the end bu rupp. that was bogus.
Some of the courses in England are hell there's just mud , steep uphill sections with loads of uneven ground and rabbit holes so you can't really focus on your race because you nearly break your ankle the whole time

Galen can watch this while stroking his olympic silver medal
+Bethan Kavanagh I have dirty mind, lol
Cross country and distance track athletes are some of the toughest people in the whole world.
No shit. We won 3 cross country titles in a row in high school. I wanted to quit after every race.

"and as i was coming up on shadrick we crossed the street and he gave me a look back...i looked him in the eye and i knew i could take him. i knew i could go after it"
words of a fucking badass runner. all guts.
mcdougel ended up beating rupp in college at nationals a couple of years ago
If it weren't for Galen Rupp, we would still think running's not for white Western guys
he is not " western " really, he is East- Nordic , probably some finland mixed with polish ...
+NKLOP well, he's murican and his last name looks awefully german (i am german myself). i guess i should have written 'just for east africans'.
+axlrosea675 but remember there are two kinds of " westerns" : Nordics and mediterraneans, and these two types of western men are very different on their physical looks... so I think that is more accurate to call him Nordic than " western" ( ethnically speaking )

i went to this back in 03, i live like 10 minutes from balboa park

Galen Rupp shadrack and Josh Mcdougal disliked this vid
"it's a huuuuge move!" i love it
THIS WAS FREAKIN AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! GO WITHROW!!!! WOO!
what's it called when even the kenyan and the rich guy with the altitude tent can't touch you?
Ballerness. 12 years later.
14:55 first place is absolutely kenyan style
He's the head cross country coach at Liberty College.
Who is?
Oh I didn't realize that you were talking about specific people at the beginning with the ballerness comment, obviously galen the one with the tent and kiptoo being the kenyan.

matt vasgersian doing play by play?
They were already going fast. I wonder how much speed he put on to pass Kiptoo and Rupp that decisively.
@barchetta575m

what about Jordan Hasay at this past years nationals?
@AjaPuppy search ritzenhein footlocker on youtube and it will come up. ritz straight up dominates that shit
Except Josh McDougal beat Galen Rupp in an all-out sprint at the NCAA Championship
once... now Rupp kills. Breaking Pre's records. Withdrow got like 50th at the NCAA championship... Rupp got first and Chalenga for 2nd...
galen dont have to dislike he can tell him who got the american record
same camera charlie chaplin used
Ben True went pro aswell
How far was this race?
It's a 5K, so that's 3.1 miles.
Ben True has also been successful.
Where, exactly, is McDougal these days?
Withrow=major baller
You have no idea how hard these kids had just pushed themselves. to the point of collapsing. And your saying hes raping the ref. He's just trying stay standing
Is this matt vasgersian?
Excessive long distance running is bad for the joints involved ;)
Rupp is a beast...
False. Ben True was 6th (first non African) at World XC yesterday.
Matt's kick.. *sniff* *sniff*

I used to run against u guys at Marist when they had those small races, I forget what they’re called now
thats the point in the race when just real guts comes out. you cant train the drive to win. thats true talent. good for him he deserves that win. cheap shot at the end bu rupp. that was bogus.
and helped US get silver team medal, first since the 1980s
"Yahoos"? What the fuck...
The referee at the finish line needs to move his ass out the way. Nothing like being mauled by a bunch of officials when your exhausted.
oregon may be america's running state, but the Midwest has always consistently produced the strongest runners with the most heart. Midwest pwns noobs
All about the "west" toughest section/region in the country!
insane.
how long r they running? is this a two mile?
5k
That means your doing it right than lol. and yeeeeeeees i made an assumption based on the comment you left.

Found the Galen Rupp burner account
Wow you call that a hill? American XC is so soft.
Please, don't judge an entire nation's "version" of a sport based on one hill on one course...
Quite obviously.
well this is california. i live in tennessee and every race has atleast one big hill haha they suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck
Kyle Nabe Try New England the courses down there are horrible.
Some of the courses in England are hell there's just mud , steep uphill sections with loads of uneven ground and rabbit holes so you can't really focus on your race because you nearly break your ankle the whole time
