    I have a Polaris Model 9550 which started doing the Error Code 10 last year. I've had this pool cleaner for 3 years with no issues until now. Seems like the problem was intermittent at first, then pretty much happening on a regular basis. I would go out to the pool to check the progress of the cleaner and find it stopped with this Error Code. Love this video. Glad you showed how to take the plug apart. I wasn't sure I was going to get the 2nd step accomplished. Holding the front part with a pair of needle nose vise grips and unscrewing the opposite end took a lot of pressure. Very tight. If I hadn't had your video to watch, I would have thought I was going to break that piece. I didn't have the right hex key with the set I had. One was too small and the next size too big. Glad I read through all the comments to find it took a Metric size 1.5. The red wire was the culprit and was loose. The other two wires were tight. I loosened those two wires and used some Dielectric Grease on all three of them. Re-inserted and tightened the connections. Can't wait to use this in April when my pool opens. Thank you so much for taking the time and posting this video!!

    I wanted to add an additional point. You mentioned you can remove the base to access the wires. I then unscrewed the hex nut completely (one wire at a time so not to confuse their location) and slid out the pin. It was easy to reinstall and made cleaning easier and thorough. Thanks for your assistance.

    Hi Mark. Thankyou so much for this video. I have two of these Polaris cleaners. In the UK these are marketed as Zodiac Vortex. Both of these had stopped working. Most videos on UA-cam have focused on either cleaning the pins, OR finding breaks in the cable itself. I had always, wrongly, assumed that the screw in connector was a sealed unit. Finding this video means I have working pool cleaners again!! Thankyou so much

    Quick note: on my P945 I was able to untwist the pins section from the longer black body by putting a wide flathead screwdriver down between the pins, into the molded plastic body, and turn. I made sure not to hit the pins. I found this way pretty easy compared to using pliers to hold the side of the pin case.

    Mark - Thank you, Thank you. I have the Polaris 9450 and after trying a few things I came across this video, pulled apart the plug as shown and the red wire was not connected. Put it back and the cleaner is working perfectly. The only part that was a little difficult was using the needle nose pliers to hold the piece in place while unscrewing as I didn't want to ruin the rubber. It worked but afterwards I saw a reviewer post that you should screw the piece into the unit and then turn the outer part to get it to come apart. Hopefully I won't have to do this again but will try that method next time as unscrewing it with the needle nose pliers required a little more force on mine than you showed.

    This is a great video and should help a lot of people! The easiest way to remove the cord housing is to unscrew the back and plug the pins into the control box as far as they will go, then turn the cable housing instead of using the needle nose pliers to hold the end where the pins are.

    Thanks for this - knowing it could be disassembled easily made it a lot easier. I skipped trying to clean the pins and went straight for the wires. On my 9550 there's a plastic weatherproofing bushing to pull out and the 3 wires are held in my flathead screws. There is also a strain relief clamp for the outer gray cable.
    What was immediately obvious was whoever assembled it cut the outer sheath back way too far so it was not held by the strain relief clamp. Hence there was nothing holding the wires in except the small screws. The wire is also stranded and untinned - I could see at least one stray strand of copper which might have been causing a short.
    So I took a photo and removed all the wires, shortened them, stripped them on 18 gauge stranded size leaving about 1/4" of copper exposed.
    I will grant it's quite hard to get the ends all in place and screwed in when the wires are short but I managed to do it, and got the outer gray sheather clamped down securely. The people who assemble these shouldn't be taking short cuts.
    If I had to do it again I would tin the stranded wire with solder but hopefully I won't have to any time soon.
    Note if you do what I did then there is only a limited amount of cable you can trim on the end so do the absolute minimum amount. But if there is a strain relief clamp do make sure it's holding the order gray sheath or you are just doing a fix that won't last.

      Rats - I spoke too soon. Checked my robot this morning and it had stopped working again with Err10 again. I was deceived because it seems like it runs for 10 to 20 seconds and then conks out. I've also been able to activate the lift mechanism and get it to climb out of the pool without going to Err10 and took more like a minute. Weird. So I took another look at the connector - cleaned the pins, unscrewed the female connector from the control box so I could test connectivity and everything looks good from inside the box to the cable. There's a suspicious 7K resistance between two of the pins - it might be by design, or there could be a fault in the swivel - maybe it's taken some water onboard? There's a video on how to disassemble that but it might also be something inside the robot. I'm actually going to take it back to Leslie's where I bought it from as it supposedly has a 2 year warranty that doesn't exclude the cable and I'm lucky it is only 15 months into that. I'll report back if they can fix it and tell me what the issue was - one thing for sure is I don't ever want to have to shell out the outrageous $400 to buy a new cable, that's like $10 a foot (but it is "only" $200 if you get one without the anti-twist swivel).

    • @enmodo
      @enmodo Рік тому +1

      Latest update on this - Leslie's Pool tested my robot and said the cable and robot are perfect, is actually the control box (computer) that is defective. Irritatingly Leslie's made me call the manufacturer which is actually Fluidra (Polaris is just a brand) to okay the warranty part. Fluidra told me this isn't a common problem but they do see it. I'm wondering if Las Vegas summers are just to hot and sitting outside (shaded) is too much for the electronics? I think I'll store the robot in the garage this summer since they told me the 2 year warranty doesn't refresh on the replaced part so if this new controller fails I'm screwed - the unit is $450 new to replace (although there are ones on eBay for under $200).

    • @MarktheHost
      @MarktheHost  Рік тому +1

      @Simon Waddington Great information; thank you! Yes I would totally advise to not leave the entire unit (robot + cradle/control unit) stored out in the elements. I keep my units in my workshop... helps reduce humidity as well.

    • @enmodo
      @enmodo Рік тому

      One final update - so Leslie's first replaced the control box and that didn't help. Then they took it back and after three weeks I got a) another new control box, b) new motor block, c) new cable which they described as "basically a new cleaner" but it was the old housing wheels etc. Great, took it home ran it three times over a few days and boom, Err 10. No amount of phtuzing with the connection helped. I got the original control box (which Leslie's had returned to me on the first visit) and eventually after a disconnect / power off cycles it started working. I then had it running for about a week, maybe another half dozen cycles (huge windstorm put a ton of sand and dirt in my pool) and then boom Err 10. Tried both boxes didn't help. Eventually I left it sitting over night and next day it worked again. Since then it has been on and off - runs a couple of times and dies, then stops working for a day or so. I start to think water is in there somewhere. Maybe Leslie's didn't put it back together quite right? Or maybe there's some connection that's not part of the motor / cable assembly that was replaced and that's been bad all along?
      Anyway the final update is I called Polaris (Fluidra) descried what happened, they checked the notes, put me on hold for 5 minutes and said they were shipping a brand new unit to me direct. I'd call that great customer service although I'd LOVE to know what the actual issue is because it doesn't fill me with a lot of faith that these electric cleaners will last - if the replacement runs another 15 months like the old one that's still like $500 a year. They did ask me if I keep the robot in when I add chemicals and I know that's a hard no because I always pull it out after cleaning - it's not on a schedule. And at the time it went bad and since then I'd stopped putting chemicals in the pool so the "new" unit had never even seen any pool chemicals.
      My plan is now to get a simple suction cleaner - since Fluidra gave me good support I may get one of their fancy Maxx cleaners. I'll either keep the replacement robot as a backup (it's great at removing fine silt) or just sell it. I never liked that suction cleaners throw all the dirt into the filter and make the pump work harder but since I got my robot I switched to a cartridge filter and that's easier to maintain than DE and I got a new variable speed pump. Plus their Maxx cleaner has a cyclonic intercept that stops large items like leaves and twigs going into filter.
      Good luck to y'all with your 9550 robots - may the Err10 codes not be with you!

    Thanks for instructions, have the P955 I had a Er 10 Leslies wanted 1200 to fix it.. we had just got a motor in Oct 22 for 500 dollars and Leslies put it in... 5 months later Error 10!! this time I was determined to repair it myself. turned out to be the swivel was full of water.. First I used RTV Silicon to reseal the Motor compartment just in case there was water in it, .. there was a tiny bit of condensation in it.. Also put the two ends of the wire together using solder shrink wrap individual wires, then RTV Silicon after it dried I shrink wrapped the repaired wire. I used the two ends of the Swivel to tighten on the wire.. put the smaller end in the larger and put 3 screws in the plastic about 1/4" from end to hold them together and keep pressure off of the repaired wire where I did my work after removing the swivel. its working Fine.. Im giving it 2 days to be sure the motor compartment RTV is dry. Im going to get a Dolphin Triton PS WiFi and keep the Polaris for back up...

    My error 10 issue was with the detangler which I just cut out of the cord and spliced the 18 gauge wires together with water proof shrink wrap couplers. I then doubled up the exterior foam casing over the splice and secured with multiple tight zip ties to prevent twisting. After this 10 minute fix my pool vac is again working perfectly though I now have to untwist the cord after several hours of operation. I assume the error message was due to a short detected in the cord and if water ever penetrates one of the water proof couplers the vac would detect this and shut down the system with another error message? I haven’t yet got confirmation of this from Polaris and I am not a professional electrician so do not attempt to make the same repair without first consulting with a certified technician.

      Great feedback and glad your fix worked out for you! Yes sir that's the expected behavior if water gets into one of your splices; Error 10.
