    • @MusicianParadise
      @MusicianParadise  Рік тому +2

      Thank you very much for the suggestionI fought about it , but I decided not to do that because as a MIDI files, those chord progressions will work a wide variety of the Keys - by default my MIDI files and chord presets are in the lowest key where those particular chord voicing will sound nicely on E-Piano. From there, you can transpose the chord progression up by semitones to any key you need.Of course, in might depend on sound of the instrument you are using - for example sampled acoustic grand piano can sound great even semitone lower then the default key. On a second thought...I will definitely consider your suggestion just because if someone working on some song, let say, in the key of C minor indication of the key in the preset file will provide a useful info about how many semitones chord progression must be transposed to reach the C minor key.

      @@MusicianParadise Yeah I personally love knowing the starting Key of the progression. It’s kind of necessary too me. I understand why you might not wanna do it but most of the Scaler 2 progressions tell you the start key.

    • @MusicianParadise
      @MusicianParadise  Рік тому +1

      @@bjamminsincebirth3494 When I'll manage to rename all the files I'll let you know. It might take some time just because there over 60 files in both packs ;) BTW Scaler 2 is detecting the key of my chord progressions correctly (most of the time) but there's some cases...for example,if some of the chords in the chord progression are outside of the key (modal interchange or modulation) Scaler will just give you a mode name (C lydian, B Phrygian etc. for example). The same happens then chord progression not tonal, but modal, or based on modal contrast, so, technically, there's no key to indicate. What kind of naming convention would you prefer for such cases?

    • @bjamminsincebirth3494
      @bjamminsincebirth3494 Рік тому

      Thanks@@MusicianParadise for your feedback!
      What I would like to see are two types of harmonic textural "set" (say "chord progressions") : on one hand something related to classical music progressions (I admit it's a too broad definition), maybe subdivide by author (from Bach to Beethoven to Mahler .. ah ah I'm maybe joking) and something related to jazz classical big-band orchestrations around Ellington and before), This second realm is maybe not to fare from your "modern" jazz harmonization you called R&B... d the end ... "all is jazz" ;-) and maybe you could agree. BTW the first set (the classical one) could support all the recent "cinematic" music production... in that sense a "cinematic music" pack could maybe merge the two set above mentioned. Does it make sense? ... I I'm not sure me too. Anyway thank you for your huge sharing and dissemination!

      @@solyarismusic Yes, I plan to incorporate some of those suggestions. Bach is already prominently featured in the chord packs domain. For instance, Xfer Cthulhu has many chord progressions extracted from Bach Chorals MIDI files, and the Song Wish reMIDI 3 plugin has a large collection of public domain MIDI files, including classical and Big Band MIDI files.
      "Cinematic" is a really good title for such a chord progressions collection, and I've already started a folder with this name on my computer where I'm collecting references. I'll also try to highlight less well-known composers and big band arrangers, such as Kenny Wheeler and Maria Schneider. Of course, the collection wouldn't be complete without Duke Ellington and other jazz classics. This process will take some time, so please be patient.

    Hi Thank you so much for the progression. They are great. I am using them with the MPC live 2. Sound great. Getting confused what mode they are in because the pad perform notes don’t seem to match. Could add in title whether major minor blues or whatever. What do you think. Thanks again Tbone

    • @MusicianParadise
      @MusicianParadise  Рік тому +1

      Yes, you're right - most of those chord progressions does not fit in just one mode or scale - because the dominant V7 chord is often altered or, in 90s styles V7b13 (or triton sub. bII7#11. We can think of those chords as a dominant chords borrowed from the parallel minor key (V7b9b13). Some of those chords are not from the key/scale of a tonic chord. It is a very common practice in some harmonically complex styles of music such as Jazz, Neo-Soul, R&B etc. It may seems confusing if you accustomed to use chord sets derived just from one scale, and nothing is wrong with this approach - but it won't work for every music style. The interesting way of thinking about those chords is this - let say, you are in the key of C major and most of your chords is from C major scale. You can spice up your chord progression using some chords borrowed from C minor scale or C Lydian mode etc. This approach frequently described in music theory books as "Modal Interchange". Of course, pad perform does not have such an understanding of music theory so it's algorithm can't accurately match scales/modes in complex chord progressions.Sorry for such long explanation, probably I should make a video about this topic!

    • @emmaryan
      @emmaryan Рік тому +1

      Thanks for your quick and thorough response. Much appreciated. I know some basic music theory but nothing at your level so have been scratching my head for ages trying to match the modes by ear. Not very successfully. I know everyone says you can get by without music theory but I think it helps enormously. If you ever make a video on the modal interchange for the progression I would be first to view. Thanks again for all your great work. It is valued greatly. Tbone.

    Hi, I am an e- drummer and I am looking for a way to trigger melodic chord progressions with my midi drum kit, any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

    • @MusicianParadise
      @MusicianParadise  Рік тому +1

      Probably the best way to trigger chord progressions and the melodies is to use samples and software or hardware sampler. Even if you using something like Scaler 2 or Ripchord for creating your chord progressions, those programs not very good for triggering chords on the drum pads, just because of added latency - when you sending the midi note from a drum pad, let say, to the Scaler 2, the Scaler plugin will turn it to the chord and when will sendthe midi chord into some AU/VST to produce the sound , so the latency adds up causing delayed triggers. It all about preparation - first, make your chord progression using any tools you have in your DAW, convert it into audio file/files you want to trigger and assign those audio files to the notes of any sampler of your choice (any DAW has one , I think) Make sure the buffer size in the audio settings of your DAW set as low as it can be without causing sound artefacts (the best results can be achieved using audio interface) and assign your drum pads to the midi notes of the sampler. Make sure DAW is set to the BPM your chord sequence is recorded - so you can listen to the metronome while playing. Hope this helps!

    • @seanwalsh999
      @seanwalsh999 Рік тому

      @@MusicianParadise Thank you for your help. I never thought about the latency build up, good to know. So what you are saying is use Scaler and or Ripcord to build a song out of loops in my DAW and get my edrums to trigger their assigned midi notes, sounds good just going to take some learning A.) how to create loops in my DAW and sequence them into a song, then B.) assigne midi notes to have my edrums trigger those loops and or advance the sequence of the song. Sounds good in theory but I am going to need a tutorial. Thanks again for the your suggestions.

    • @MusicianParadise
      @MusicianParadise  Рік тому +1

      @@seanwalsh999 A) You can use some sample packs with already prepared loops, ou you can learn how to make your own chord loops using the DAW and Scaler plugin. It difficult to give more detailed advice without knowing what kind of music you are aiming to make.B) First of all you have to decide what kind of sampler you going to use for playback of previously prepared loops and assign samples to some midi notes. Secondly, you 'll need to read through MIDI implementation of your edrumkit to figure out how to assign the MIDI notes to the pads. If assignment is not possible, just check out which notes are triggered on the sampler when you playing the drumpads and assign your loops to those notes.(Assuming your edrumkit is connected to the computer by USB/MIDI). Of course it's a very specific workflow depending on the DAW you are using.
