- One of the all time best Gaelic matches ever....a classic!
Its the first round of the 1994 Ulster Championship. Derry are reigning Ulster
and All-Ireland champions and with stars like Joe Brolly, Anthony Tohill and
Henry Downey they are hotly tipped to retain both titles. But Down have other
ideas and their own stars such as Mickey Linden, James McCartan, Greg
Blaney and Ross Carr. The clash of the big two, with home advantage to Derry
in Celtic Park, this game turned out to be a classic and is regarded by many as one of
the best Gaelic matches of all time! Enjoy!
Some football what a game and remember it so very well .Loved Anthony Tohill style play .His son now plays for his Swatragh club . Thankyou ⚽⚽❤️❤️
Perhaps the greatest game of gaelic football ever played
Remember watching that match with my brothers and my Dad who has now passed. An unbelievable match the best of all time in my opinion. Linden was pure class . The understanding he had with Greg Blaney was telepathy
The best gaelic football match ever; whichever team won this first round game was going to win the All-Ireland, The intensity was white-hot, bit teams know what was at stake. And the best gaelic football goal ever; an incredible move, a razor-sharp finish, a goal which decided Sam Maguire
I was there, it was a brilliant game and a brilliant day.
Two of the greatest team off all time
Most people talk about Mickey Linden in 1994 who was the best player in Ireland by a mile, however the Down defence that year was just as crucial to this campaign and is often overlooked, they only conceded two goals that year and every score they conceded the opposition had to really work for it.
Mickley Linden tore Derry apart that day what a player a genius with a football great great player would have starred in era
Watched it again yesterday wonderful match so so sad we have such rubbish football now
@ 7:47 the point of the year
@bathtownship Too right, he was the deserved winner of Texaco 'Player of the Year' award 1994
And then Down went on to win the all Ireland 🇮🇪
Scrappy I dont tink so, was a great game of football! I was at it, behind the goals at the brandywell end. If there had of been a back door I think Derry would have won 2 All Irelands
Who is doing the commentary? Its great
Jimmy Smyth and Peter McGinnity

To be fair to Brolly he had a sweet left boot back in the day
Great days....when football was football. I'm from Mayo but would have loved to have been at that match. Can you imagine....being surrounded by shitloads of Down and Derry wemon. Now that's a win win situation 👍👍👍
that's real football not like the shit we have now thanks Mickey and tyrone
Evelyn the shit is what your talking. Have there been better all Ireland finals than 03 and 08. You know there hasn't and the bitterness is eating you.
TyronePatOne there was no blanket in 60s 70s 80s nor 90s . Well Done Down Donegal and Derry and every other team that went man on man
When a college game finished 2pts against 1 lately I rest my case
@@TyronePatOne yes today's football is utter Puk !.
Why has the game gone down hill over the last 15 years ? . Soft Rules the Gaa Brought in resulting in Soft Free's and Soft tackles etc etc etc , add on 10 minutes of Extra time and you start to wonder is Paddypower + Gaa + Ref involved $$ . After all their profits exceed 100 million a year 😐👉🗣️. Men were also of a Different Caliber 15 years ago and further back , strength , mental aspect etc was 90% ahead of Today's Techno Man 😉 ?😂😂🤢👌. Sadly society has diminished down South with poor family set up's and " Needs" but its great to see up North they still have it 👍
whered half the Derry forwards go te for the second half....
In defence of Gary Coleman, McKeever didn't do much better and again it's down to a sound bite that grows with people just repeating it.
Pretty much.....no defender could handle him.
Cool
Eamon's son possibly?!
that's real football not like the shit football that was in Derry on sunday
Exciting game but the quality was mediocre enough if examined impartially. The full time score has been achieved at half time by many of today's games, yet people complain that today's football is unwatchable. Stop listening to the Chinese whisper narrative and appreciate the game has moved on and improved.
What are you talking about? The quality of this gameplay is far superior to today's defensive game plan rubbish, players now couldn't score like some of these guys did. Just look at the crowds that went to these games in the 90s
Gary Coleman was taken to pieces yet again. I wonder why he was always picked?
