  • Cochise County was created on February 1, 1881, out of the eastern portion of Pima County.[3] It took its name from the legendary Chiricahua Apache war chief Cochise.[4][5] The county seat was Tombstone until 1929 when it moved to Bisbee. Notable men who once held the position of County Sheriff were Johnny Behan, who served as the first sheriff of the new county, and who was one of the main characters during the events leading to and following the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral. Later, in 1886, Texas John Slaughter became sheriff. Lawman Jeff Milton and lawman/outlaw Burt Alvord both served as deputies under Slaughter.
A syndicated television series which aired from 1956 to 1958, Sheriff of Cochise starring John Bromfield, was filmed in Bisbee. The Jimmy Stewart movie Broken Arrow and subsequent television show of the same name starring John Lupton, which also aired from 1956 to 1958, took place (but was not filmed) in Cochise County.
J.A. Jance's Joanna Brady mystery series takes place in Cochise County, with Brady being the sheriff.

Brings back a lot of memories - hardly recognize SV now. But definitely recognized Charleston Rd.

I learned to drive on Charleston Rd. in 1963. We lived on Meadowlark, east time of town, 1/2 mile from the high school. Dad came home with a 1960 MGA. It was nice. There was almost nothing along Charleston. Not from Buena High School , over the San Pedro Bridge, and Tombstone had dirt roads. Road is very different now...We got Beck's moms 64 Malibu w/ 4sd and 327 up to 140mph on stock original tires...

Wow! You just brought a big smile to an old guy's face! Hardly can recognize Sierra Vista, (when I lived there the Geronimo Drive In still existed). A soon as you hit Charleston Road I felt like I was home. Spent a lot of time wandering around between Charleston and Tombstone. Even slept in the Bruncov adobe house just to say that I did. Thanks!

Bronkow adobe house has completely washed, fallen to the ground now in 2021. No preservation was ever done on it.

My family and I are planning a move to Miracle Valley in May. I have a 15 year old son that will be attending Tombstone and I was glad to see this video showing how the drive is from Sierra Vista to Tombstone. Anyone have any suggestions about school choices down that way? We are moving from Arkansas, very small town Arkansas. His school here graduates in average about 50 kids per year.

I grew up in St. David and taught school in Tombstone a long time ago. If you rare moving to Miracle Valley, I believe you are in the Sierra Vista school district. It is quite a trip from Miracle Valley to Tombstone. Tombstone High School was a good school when I was there and for many years after. The principal was a good friend. I don’t know much about it now except that is much smaller than the high school in Sierra Vista.

Nice choice of music. The drive was a lot greener than I expected for southern AZ, (certainly compared to the Yuma area). I'll have to take a drive down there myself one day.

Very nice drive-video. I've saved this to my Arizona playlist, a video tour of much of the state, placing this after the Sierra Vista section. Thanks for sharing it. ~ In your video description, I believe it might be more clear to word your next to the last sentence/phrase, as " was set in, but not filmed in Cochise County", rather than " took place . ." " Took place" suggests it actually took place there, as opposed to a fictional setting.

The new bridge over the San Pedro did confuse me. I used to terrify people by driving through the ford next to the old bridge.

If you drove across a ford on the San Pedro River you were not on Charleston Road going to Tombstone. It is impossible to ford the river at Charleston. You can barely cross on foot.
