You are a lifesaver. I bought my Toro today @ Home Depot and thought it had no side chute. Surprised to see that it exist..... and for free. Keep up the good work. My rear chute came today. It's easy to use and a big improvement over the side chute. Definitely less clog. You was also right. The delivery time was about a week. Thanks again. Keep up the good work.
It’s not free toro just decided not to put it in the box. You did pay for it as part of the mower cost, bet toro saved tons on money not giving these away
Got my mower a month ago, chute still hasn’t come. And you’re right, it isn’t free, especially if you never get it. Not getting Toro again until they start including the side discharge again.
Got this mower with the new design. Rear discharge or mulch. In my opinion this unit should come with the side discharge attachment, not have to be sent away for. The reason: if you have grass that is more than 4 inches high, the machine gags. It gets clogged up. I am betting that most people who buy this machine end up requesting the side discharge attachment. It is made of rigid plastic and can't be that expensive that it could not be included with the mower.
@@STEVENWITHAV that would require the dealers always have them in stock….. plus it compels you to register (and thus be put on mailing lists) …. This method works best for THEM
Thank you!!! I’ve had my mower for more than a year. Such a struggle with all the rain and the thick grass. Didn’t even know this thing existed and Toro would have charged $40 total for this chute. Followed your video and got it for free. Thanks, again.
My mower has been clogging the entire season! It's September and I finally decided to look into it. Thank you for this video! I just hope it gets here soon!
I also was thinking about making a DIY side discharge chute, but no way would I drill a hole through the side of the deck lol. It would probably ruin the recycler/mulch action. I believe that's why there is no side shoot, just a strangely engineered mower. I was trying to think of a way to make something similar to the actual part, but with a piece of thick plastic and a dryer pipe haha.
Bought one today today, needed to mow today as well. It's a 3-4 hour job, bagging would of sucked. Used a bungee cord to hold the discharge open, put on some safety glasses, and mowed one handed standing of to the side. Glad I grabbed the glasses, took a piece of a twig to the side of the nose. Good call toro, lol. I'll register it when I get back home, what ever the frig that means.
Haha, this is pretty much the same thing I went through! instead of a bungee cord, I used a medium sized spring clamp to keep the back flap open. Legs get covered in moist grass, but it works just fine and i rather get grasskakke'ed all day then have to bag my 2 acre property lol. That's the other thing that I don't like about this mower, the bag engineering was done poorly. Once it gets about half full it starts dropping grass, requiring us to empty it often. And the last poorly designed thing is how to raise and lower the deck. It sucks that we have to do each wheel individually, and the rear right side mechanism doesn't allow a lock in to the highest setting. So I automatically have to be a half step down lol. It really is stupid that it doesn't come with this side discharge attachment. There was plenty of space to put it in the box that the mower came in. Such a hassle.
Thank you so much! I watched several videos before I found this and got the information that I need for the mower I just bought. What a relief! I thought I would need to return the mower and get another one. They sure didn't explain or show that information in the instructions. You have my vote! 🙂
Thank you so much for posting, the option didn’t come up for Canada until I had entered the serial number, model and purchase date then it came up! Thank you so much!
Thank you for this incredibly helpful information. Once I entered the model number and serial number, a box appeared asking if I'd like a discharge chute mailed to me for free - which I would like very much! Thanks again.

Thanks for putting this up. Killed my personal pace blade brake mower last night and noticed no side discharges on the replacement model. I'll give it a shot.
I got my mower last year, and we were under drought conditions, and mulching was no problem. This year, we’ve gotten plenty rain, and mulching is almost impossible with the really thick grass. I got my machine registered last night, and have one of the chutes coming.
Thank you for this. I registered mine via the quick registration link on the box, and there wasn't an option to request a side discharge. The link you provided allowed me to essentially reregister it and check the box to have it sent!
I agree, I have to tip my mower on its side and clean out deck because it gets clogged up. I've been waiting to receive discharge unit for over 2 months. I'm been mowing my yard for 16 years and never had an issue till now. I'm not a happy camper with Toro
I just bought a similar model and just did the registration.. I will say it’s more work then just having it in the box but I can see why they are doing this. Most folks in my neighborhood use bagging and just fertilize their grass. So Toro seems to have watch the market and realize that most residential purchases are normally those type of folks. Now for me I have a section along the lake that I really don’t care for and this helps a ton because I’m not trying to work that hard for that grass. Also I do another property that my family has that in the country and I use this along with a zero turn. Both are set to discharge.
Update: It is 01/2024 and I was able to register and still apply for this. It said 3 to 4 weeks. I did purchase mine on 08/2023 so it seems they are still being kind on this deal.
It's pretty idiotic that Toro didn't include it in the box. There is absolutely no reason not to. There was plenty of space and it's not like it's a super heavy thing that would screw up shipping costs or something. I got the more powerful version of the recycler, the black 22-in deck and the mower works fantastic here in florida. The rear-wheel drive is excellent. My only problems are not including this chute, a poorly engineered bag system that requires to be empty before it's even half full, and the raising and lowering of the deck sucks. We have to do one wheel at a time, and the rear right side wheel is unable to lock into the highest click lol... The next time I have to buy a mower, (in probably 15-20 years) I'm absolutely going to make sure that two of these three problems are not on the next one lol. My last mower with a similar Briggs & Stratton engine lasted about 20 years, I expect the same from this one.
Not worth buying the mower without the side discharge. Got mine at Lowe’s a month ago, still waiting for my free rear/side discharge unit. Grass chokes and stops the mower, or rear bagger fills up every pass. Spend more time emptying bagger, pulling out gummed up grass from under the deck, & restarting than actually cutting the grass. Wished I’d known they stopped including the discharge. Would return it if I hadn’t mowed with it already. Still might, since I didn’t know it’s underpowered to mulch the grass without choking up.
Yeah I’ve done this. I live in Australia. Unfortunately they only allow USA and Canada to register. If you’ve any tips how I can grab one I’d be mighty grateful. Cheers.
How would you change your mowing pattern when using a side discharge compared to just bagging or mulching. Link me to a video even if that's easier than explaining. Thanks guys
Do you have trouble with yours rolling it back with self propel disengaged? I loosened the cable and belt has play on it. But wheels lock and can't roll it back while engine is running.
I bought mine second hand... and I went to use it today after a good week and a half of a cutting and I was ready to push this mower into the middle of road for someone to run over it until it became DUST.
