@jaytbo5676 i understand your confusion. What I meant by oriental, I didn't mean Asian at all. I should've said Middle-Eastern beat ( i was thinking in French, Oriental ). There's some ( ORIENTAL / ARABIC ) elements in the song. FYI, I am French/ singer/ drummer and a composer. Hindi Zara is a Moroccan singer, so she incorporates some rhythms from her Arabic/Berber culure in her French songs. And I know that French is a Latin language 😄 I am also a French and Spanish tutor 😉 You don't have to be harsh and judgmental about it !!! Just chill 😎

Generally since like 185-1870 it is only rly used to refer to "China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Mongolia, and peninsular Southeast Asia." in any western culture or culture I am aware of at least. And what u may be misinterpreting is that Morroco was a colony of Spain and France and has historically had a lot of latin influence, so u are probably just hearing the Spanish/French/latin influence through the Moroccan culture/music and believing it to be Moroccan but it rly is very much latin. Like to make sense of my reaction, as a fairly globally cultured latin person and musician, hearing "This is not latin it's oriental", was like hearing someone say "This is clearly a classical song about being responsible" to my buddy Jesse's song: ua-cam.com/video/ZEvQOPUHGH8/v-deo.html Such an absurd statement deserves an equal reaction haha. @jaytbo5676 i understand your confusion. What I meant by oriental, I didn't mean Asian at all. I should've said Middle-Eastern beat ( i was thinking in French, Oriental ). There's some ( ORIENTAL / ARABIC ) elements in the song.
FYI, I am French/ singer/ drummer and a composer.
Hindi Zara is a Moroccan singer, so she incorporates some rhythms from her Arabic/Berber culure in her French songs. And I know that French is a Latin language 😄 I am also a French and Spanish tutor 😉

Generally since like 185-1870 it is only rly used to refer to "China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Mongolia, and peninsular Southeast Asia." in any western culture or culture I am aware of at least.
And what u may be misinterpreting is that Morroco was a colony of Spain and France and has historically had a lot of latin influence, so u are probably just hearing the Spanish/French/latin influence through the Moroccan culture/music and believing it to be Moroccan but it rly is very much latin.

Such an absurd statement deserves an equal reaction haha. Genuinely wanted the thought process behind it, but yeah thinking it's Morrocan/Roman divide days meaning of oriental makes sense cuz there's literally centuries of cultural latin influence in the area. Thievery corporation is producers who do diverse music with people around the world and are very good at staying true to and working with the style accurately working on the artists direction instead of making it their own. Just decided to use songs from this album because it is literally bout Latin music and inspiration in music) Very good album if you dig that music style. "Thievery corporation - Saudade" (or saudade = longing, very apt name for the sound imo)
For more musical/cultural related context it is definitely more French latin inspired, and here are some other examples just bcuz I realize may be hard to take 3 songs from the same album seriously lol (not that they shouldnt tho! Are different producers and artists.)
