- Hows it going,.....Today were gonna explore how to uild a basic light show from scratch and look at some of the lighting option availabke for the beginner who hasn't mastered or played with dmx yet. Adan Ortega .....there a great little light. I use two or four at almost every event. Will be posting a few videos coming up of some larger dmx programmed setups. one with kintas one without.
Love this set up I'm new to the mobile game and this packs a huge punch without too much equipment to haul.
My lights were more of a budget but I repair broken items. I bought 3 broken Mini Kinta lights two are the IRC the other isn't. 30 each. cost in parts 0. one of the IRC's was new in the box a wire must of came off in shipping. Worked great after putting it back on. The mini kinta had a transistor on the power supply that came lose and the little metal heat sink also the screw was lose. Tightened it. re-soldered the transistor. and plugged it and and it works great. the 3rd light the IRC was just used on ebay and i got lucky. It had free shipping and that was the final bid and nothing was wrong with it. so it was 3 lights for 90. I just bought a chauvet hurricane 1300 for 34.60 shipped. The pump was clogged. took the pump apart and let the parts set for about 20 minutes in vinegar water then wrenched them in water. Now it works great. I bought a chauvet light stand new. on amazon like 33 dollars. and a few new DMX cables. I linked all 3 mini kintas together with DMX and did the auto and then the other two on slaves. I am not sure how to program DMX but I saw i could get cheap USB DMX controllers off ebay that come with software to program it on the computer. I want to get one. I have a cheap lazer light that I am not that happy with that does patterns Not that bright.. I want to get some chauvet fat lasers. I am glad you said they go over head or I would of been blinding people. No luck finding broken ones and trying to repair them cheap. I may have to break down and buy new.
As for my DJ speakers I also bought them broken. The tweeters were blown and I replaced the Diaphragms at like 15 per speaker. I have like 100 dollars total into a set with the cost of the speakers and parts for a pair of JBL JRX115. I had to break down and buy my powered mixer as a store return that worked. paid like 350 for a Behringer Europower PMP1680s. It came in retail box and looked new with all accessories. It was one of the only powered mixers I found that fell within the RMS power rating for the speakers as they called for 250 to 500 watt RMS each channel 1000 watts peak. 800 watts program. and at 8 Ohm the PMP1680s puts out 300 watts per channel RMS. So the item i paid the most for so far is the powered mixer. my wireless mics AKG 45 retail for like 200 each and i paid like 20 each shipped! I bought them as is and repaired as well. Thank god I am handy and other people are not. :) Makes cheap gear for me.
I want to get some moving heads some day as well. I am figuring i will find them broken in time as with them moving all the time ether wires will break or if it has a mode switch with contacts it will wear or need cleaned.
highly recommend those mini kintas. I run 4 with every gig along with my other lighting. I started with the mini kintas and 3 years later still running strong. a lot of bang for your buck,

I'm adding lights to my DJ portion of my shows. Very helpful video as I have never really paid any attention to what these lights do. I picked up a paid of Gig Bar 2 and a colorband T3 because I noticed the GigBar has moments of no lights whatsoever. I am using the colorband to at least have constant lighting, even if it nothing more than a splash of color.
I have zero respect for any dj who uses a gig bar if you can’t put together a decent light show on your own get out of the business. I like this video.
I think they're ok for beginners. Also I don't get why you would judge someone on something they don't specialize in? Pretty illogical...IMO

This is awesome!!! I liked the idea of the Gigbar and now 2.0 is out, but I was not sure if that was for me. I like your $1,300 setup much better. Not this year as I just ponied up alot of money on gear, but maybe next year I will get some lighting gear. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Great video and nice lights man. Thinking about investing in this but not sure if these are great for weddings (distracting and not the right mood).
Was thinking of the Gigbar2 and a laser like the ChauvetDJ Scorpion Dual and a fog machine to get it all going but not sure if I should do that or go with a DIY solution where I get something like a $150 truss and build up my own lights on it. The bar would definitely be faster to setup but not a huge issue too. Any feedback/suggestions?
how can you control two of the dual scorpions with one IRC remote. Do have to have a DMX controller? or can you chain them together and control both with IRC remote?

When you run your Haze 2d .. what do you run your settings at? Like how fast is your fan, and how long per dispersion of the haze fog? I just bought one and have a wedding coming up and was wondering what you set yours at since you have the experience with it already. Your lights and haze look perfect. I run my hazer with an obey 3 controller. I usually just leave the fan in high all night then give it a good 1-2 min on high to start off with like 30 seconds burst every 10 min or so to keep it at a good level through out the night

I bought a chauvet 4 play but it doesn't come with a stand so I bought a tbar stand will the lights fit on the tbar stand ?

What are the lights called at the beginning?
Sam O'Brien in this instance they are just Gaff taped on top do they don't vibrate off but I do have qsc speakers that have mounting holes on the top for easy bolt on attachment.
