    Don't ever camp out at the Sun Coast Casino in Las Vegas. They don't allow you to stay there to camp unless you have a room there. They will ask and verify if you have reserved a room if you are caught trying to stealth camp on their property. Stay away from camping from that place unless you go there to gamble or eat. I go to Red Rock Canyon or closer to Mt. Charleston to no get hassled with.

    • @oneadVANtureatatime
      @oneadVANtureatatime  3 роки тому

      We have the campendium app but don't use it much at all. Initially, it did not have the off the beaten path places we like so much. It's been a while and we should give it another chance.That would be a good comparison for use to do after more research .

    • @lishayost144
      @lishayost144 3 роки тому

      @@oneadVANtureatatime I've used campendium.com recently and it was OK, helped us find some spots that we wouldn't have known about otherwise. I had never heard of ioverlander. I just downloaded it and did some looking around. It seems like it might be better than campendium in many ways. It has some spots on our last route that I didnt see on campendium. Campendium might just be another option. I just use their website, I don't know if they have an app. I wonder if all these things will get better as time goes on and more and more people add things to these sites and apps.
      I really like that ioverlander has many other filters like showers, water, laundromat, etc. That sets it apart.
      Edit: Oh yeah, one thing I like about campendium for right now is that you can check a box to exclude places that are currently closed due to covid. That was helpful.

How do you find in ioverlander the location that you had selected in google maps, for example, mt hood highway 35? When you go from maps to ioverland, you get the same location that you had on maps. Thks

    • @oneadVANtureatatime
      @oneadVANtureatatime  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Andres. When you are in the ioverlander app looking at a possible camp location, if you scroll down it should give you the option to open up google maps. I hope that helps, I may have misunderstood your question. It's best to start with ioverlander and then pull up google maps to check the area out as well.

    But how do you use the coordinates to give you? What are those bunch of numbers mean.

    • @Sadie04074
      @Sadie04074 4 роки тому

      Those coordinates are longitude and latitude in decimal degree format. Plug those into almost any car or hand held GPS device and it will give you directions to the site. The biggest problem people have is plugging in the coordinates in the wrong format. There are two primary formats: Decimal degrees such as IOverlander uses and Degrees-Minutes- and Seconds as you would find on a USGS Map. Conversion between the two formats is simply a matter multiplying or dividing the appropriate units by 60.

    • @oneadVANtureatatime

      Hi Michele. We have thought long and hard about this one. We deliberately don't leave comments on Ioverlander because many locations are getting overused and shut down. We are afraid that the next time we need to use one it will have a brand new sign that says no overnight parking. Normally we love sharing our camping locations so others can enjoy the same area but this app is extremely popular and widely used.

      @@oneadVANtureatatime Good point. Reason I asked was, you mentioned iOverlander last year in your travels and as I was trying to plan a trip (pre Covid) with some iOverlander locations. When I visited sites in the midwest and most if not all hadn't had a review in a year or two and I was hesitant to try and use them not knowing if they were still open. I can see why you do not leave a review if it already has had a lot of recent reviews. Thanks for the input I didn't think about the high usage issue, makes sense.
