- Transformers has knockoffs everywhere, but in the 90’s to ‘00’s, the Quick Change G1 Combiner Sets were everywhere. In addition to Devastator, there was Superion, a recolored (to almost Guard City status) Defensor, a Bruticus that was really in Baldigus Car Robots 2000 colors, and a Menasor that came with two Technobots. It was a wild time, but Captain Kyle reviews the yellow Devastator set to see if it’s worth tracking down.

The Quick Change Devastator in this review is yellow, which is a coloration the Constructions have been produced in by Hasbro before. In addition to the G2 yellow Devastator, a set of Constructions was released in Europe during the G1 era without the pieces to form Devastator and in yellow. These were the Decepticon team that was to face off against the Autobot Rescue Force, which was a set of recolored versions of Japanese exclusives that were unnamed. Captain Kyle opens this old knock off set and checks the quality to see if this would be a fun set for your collection.
There are some sets available on AliExpress, though the Devastator is actually lime green. You can find these sets (for which you shouldn’t pay a ton) here:
AliExpress: www.aliexpress...
eBay: ebay.us/nwVPmT (In yellow)

Rumour has it that this KO was the inspiration for the official "Tonkanator"...
Tonkanator is an Autobot Devastator is a canaña decepticon
I like your Grimlock voice. I think you are ready to lead the Dinobots to victory when you dinos take on this Devastator.
That’s a pretty good imitation of Soundwave!!!!
I remember seeing this guy in Big Lots either sold in two packs, or in the complete set. I remember the two pack variant of KO Long Haul has the fists fold inwards towards the Dump truck cab. But the complete set version doesn't have the foldable fists on Long Haul. I noticed this but, I don't know if anyone else noticed. The two pack Variant I got back in 2007, but then the Complete set one I got in 2010.
Nowadays, the KO Devastator I see is an underscaled Green version which is way worse than the Big lots version.
Then there's two variants of KO Scrapper. One where his head pops in & out, then one where his head just stays out.
The asking price point for Tonkanator is gonna go up in a not to distant future us like decepticon g1 canaña Devastator
It's amazing you managed three entire seconds without an editing cut.
As you are an amazing, established, professional UA-camr with millions of subs, I will take your criticism to heart. Oh, wait...
Kyle apparently doesn't understand that quantity is not always quality.
I wonder if Greg Berger is related to Shawn Berger from the Megatron's masterplan episode?
With time, bonecrusher as lost his bone😁
I grabbed all these at Family Dollar 10+ years ago for cheap. Tried that Devastator set and after seeing how low quality it was, I left the rest in the box as display pieces.
Oddly, the others are actually better quality.
I grabbed a Devestator about 15 years ago, and Quick Change had started cheapening the design. A few heads don’t retract, Long Haul’s arms are a mess, and Scavengers head is permanently half-retracted with half a face. The back image still showed the older, better, version. Combines OK. Needed to re-glue a couple stickers.
I always saw those at Big Lots stores.
I have two of these sets and unpacked my TF's recently. They are worse than I remember them being and on one of them, the tab that connects the leg parts to Longhaul is broken off and I only have one other one! Trying to build Devastator with these has been a serious pain and very frustrating. I thing this version should be called "Wreckastator".
Yeah, these aren't exactly the most quality. Though some of the other sets seemed decent.
while i try to go easy on collectibles outside of disc form, i pulled the trigger on the transformers/gi joe megatron hiss tank baroness mashup. just too cool to pass up on
Love the ko's of the early 2001's
I bought around 2008, and the KOs became more cheapened, and with less selection. Still, some were alright.
I had the defensor version he was a fun knockoff i let my younger brother have it and he broke it lol
I still have the Defensor. And don't have a younger brother to break it. Lol
Quick Change Defensor is the better of the two for mine. Defensor was also the cancelled G2 colors. My first mod was cutting/dremeling the part on Groove, so his front would swing down.
Usually Buy These When I See Them Just as N Box Display Pieces *
Devastator is greeen!, 🙃
These chinese knockoff combiners is my childhood, can't afford hasbro or takara tomy so this is what my parents bought me
Hi Captain Kyle!
Hi Logan!
Soundwave wasn't half bad. Lol
Soundwave superior this Construction knockoff inferior. This set crumbled on me after I played with it. Yes Soundwave the official one which is better quality came out in 1985. It cost 19.97 at Toys r us.
@@thespaceram2879 rama sold constructicon ko's a number of years back for $1 each.
@@ghostoferlock Wow it is so unreal!
@@thespaceram2879 yes, I bought some of their transformer ko's for $3 or so years ago, and the quality has changed a lot. Not even half as good now.
You guys do know G2 devastator was yellow, right?
Yes... and there was an orange version, too.
there was actually a g1 yellow constructions. that didnt come with connecter pieces. they were yellow with gray. you could buy connector pieces from other constructions
Yep. Released in Europe at the same time as the Autobot Rescue Force. And some parts were grey.
@@ToySpotlite I have made a custom devastator to match the multi colored one you mentioned. the chest plate is red. and yes I totally agree with you. it works so much better. I also did a diaclone custom devastator.
I have a seller that I can buy the other combiners but I'm afraid they are too cheap for the money
I always yell that at the top of your intro
i just hate when Kyle goes skipping on details because it's an old mold and we are ALL SUPPOSED to had them all when we were kids.
That's fkn lazy and if you gonna do a review.. do it in it's entirery!
I have this set from many years back along with 3 other ko devy sets. This one is by far the worst quality. Looks OK but impossible to combine. Just so flimsy and poor fitting, it's a pile of plastic garbage.
