I know a urological surgeon who told me "Men with low testosterone die early from all causes". We had this discussion because I tested around 230 and had a history of low grade chronic depression, periods (6 months at a time) of low sex drive, etc. It was that comment that helped me decide that I should go through with TRT. When I started it, my urologist asked me how I felt and I told him "Its like a sphere of peace is suddenly all around me". He said, "People don't realize how much of an impact testosterone levels below 300 have on feelings of well being in men". So there you have it. I've been on TRT for probably 15 years now and I can also report that if my T is anywhere between 400 and 1200 I dont really notice a difference. There may be some difference in red blood cell count and endurance but I dont notice it. When my testosterone was above 2000 (when you start taking it the dosage can be too high or low, ive had both) anything with a curve, even the roof of a car reminded me of the female form and gave me a hard on. It was cool and weird at the same time. Not something i would consider a long term desirable outcome though.

THIS is the video is what I had been looking for. An honest, straightforward, scientific essay of the actual effects and side effects is what fellas like me have been searching for. I just started going "on the needle" a couple weeks ago, thanks to you (and my GP who suggested we do a few blood panels). In all actuality, I should've started a long time ago. I started feeling the effects of hypergonadism 7 years ago, in my late 30's. I always hated going to the doctor, and along with my friends and coworkers would brag "it's been X many years since I'VE seen a doctor and I feel fine." So, over the years I attributed my falling mood, lack of sexual intrest, unexplained weight gain and loss of muscle mass, hightening anxiety to the point of panic attacks, worsening bouts of depression, and plummeting energy to just being stressed and overworked. Of the handful of antidepressants I tried, none of them actually helped with depression at all. One even made it considerably worse! I could go on and on, but the point is that if I had not been such a dumbass and gone for yearly checkups and blood panels starting in my 30's they'd have caught my dramatically falling T levels and I wouldn't have had to go through YEARS of no longer feeling like myself. I don't have the words to sufficiently express how much I appreciate you making this video to put out there. The first things that pop up when doing research on TRT are the gym bros who're only concerned with the "gains". I give ZERO F's about gains. I just want to feel human again, and thanks to you and my doctor I can feel everything starting to turn back around. I know it'll take several months to tweak the dosage just right, but I can already see glimmers of my old self starting to come back.

38 year old on TRT here- One thing I didn't hear ya cover for people who actually need TRT: Be prepared for a long haul before you start seeing real changes with it, and depending on your Endo, to even get on it (my endo tracked my blood work twice a month for 4 months prior to even considering the therapy, where we found out my numbers ranged from as low as 34 to as high as 315). For me it was over a year of titrating dosages, injection frequencies and methods to see what actually worked (produced bloodwork results and reduced symptoms). It's definitely not an overnight fix, unless maybe you get lucky on the first set of everything you try. Two years on it later- When I attempt to make changes to my body composition, I actually see results. Where previously nothing I did, diet or exercise based seemed to do anything, I can now manipulate my body composition and maintain whatever weight I want. Sleep is MUUUUCH better, and gaining muscle, while not trivial by any means, feels trivial compared to the extreme effort I used to have to put in for any minor strength or size gain at all. Overall, for me, it's been worth it.

I was put on trt by my general practitioner about 14 years ago because my levels were right around 300. But I don't really remember having any symptoms of low testosterone. But I was infertile. I was always kind of laid back and not really very aggressive and that was about it. My libido was fine but not super high. They finally convinced me to start it because I thought maybe it would improve something somehow. It wasn't until several years later I learned that my low test was caused by varicocele and that it probably could have been fixed with surgery. But I've been on it so long now that there is really no point in stopping because I can't make it on my own and plus I'm old so I figured what's the point. Might as well just stay on the prescription and have normal levels of test into old age. But I do wish I had learned more about the stuff before I started and I might have gotten fixed with a simple surgery and still been able to have kids. I discovered I had low testosterone because they discovered I was infertile and tested me to find out why. But instead of finding out why I produced low testosterone they just replaced it. And made me permanently infertile. Even now just writing it it still upsets me. But I did adopt a wonderful son because I couldn't have my own, so at least I got that out of it. I have to admit that part of me is still furious with the doctors for just replacing what wasn't there instead of figuring out what the cause of it was. If I'd gone to an endocrinologist they might have fixed me and then I would have become fertile and I would have had even more kids that I never got to have. So if you guys are going to start trt because you're low, I recommend going to someone that knows what the fuck they're talking about and finding out what the root cause is. It's too late for me but maybe somebody else won't get stuck on this the rest of their life.

Dr. Mike does a great job in this video explaining that T levels alone should never be used to put someone on TRT or disqualify them. Symptoms are what matter. I just took my 3rd dose of Test Cypionate at 42yo. I never felt clinically depressed, but I was always tired, extremely unmotivated, overweight, etc. My sex drive wasn't low, but I had all other symptoms. I feel like a new person after only a couple of weeks. I did extensive research myself on all the risks, benefits, dosing strategies, etc. I'm going to get my own blood work done every 3 months, I donate blood to keep hematocrit down as I already have high blood pressure controlled via medication. Leading up to my start of TRT I was fixated on wanting my levels to 800-1000, but I've come to realize that really I don't care what my test levels are. Honestly I'd just prefer it's as low as possible while I continue to feel great. More test, more side effects so why not just feel good and stop there? That's my new philosophy. After my next round of blood work I'm going to talk with my doctor about trying subcutaneous injections with test cypionate every 3-5 days. The injections are painless and easy, but I understand subcutaneous injections could lead to some skin rashes and discomfort. I'm honestly wanting to flatten the trough. I feel great, but my sex drive 4-5 days after my 100mg injectsions (intramuscular) has become a bit annoying to me and especially to my wife. Lol. Not a bad thing, but I want to compare my experience with smaller injections just a few times more per month than what I'm currently doing. Do your research and find a good doctor. Also learn about SBGH, free test, etc. Sometimes you may not need more total testostone and can benefit with other therapies. My SBGH was 14 - very low and my total test was 208, 203, and 98 for 3 separate blood tests. I was a perfect candidate for TRT and it has already made me feel like a new person in a few weeks.

I did and I'm glad I did. TRT is hugely beneficial to those who need it. I was misdiagnosed and then over-dosed. Instead of aiming to treat symptoms the clinic I went to aimed at a number. My BP shot up, PSA shot up, a good chunk of the usual unpleasant side effects showed up. Stayed on for two years because I really wanted to believe. Finally came off when my ECG started showing borderline RVH. Did what was basically PCT and made a bunch of lifestyle changes. Test is now comfortably mid range, I'm symptom free, and much happier.
TRT is a miracle for those who need it, but there are way too many clinics out there now all too happy to tell you it's low test and take your money.
Anyway, that's the other side of the coin.

I'm 62 and have been on TET for over 20 years, and did cycles once a year for 15 years prior. Sustanon/Deca was my fav..My first cycle I was 21 and it was a disaster.
Now my doctor gives me whatever I want because she says I know more about this than her! I'm the OG (Original Guinea Pig) 🤣
Here's the dealio. I take a mix of around 1100, every five days. When you reach my age, and have been juicing 30+ years there are almost no side effects except for polycythemia. Rage, anxiety, acne, hair loss,? Nope.
I get blood tests monthly, sometimes twice a month and give blood monthly. I'm on it for life, however, I knew this going in. To me its worth it. If I could go back in time I wouldn't change a thing.
If i go past 6 days I can feel the lower test. Also, the sliver bullet for us older guys is adding Proviron to the mix. I highly recommend it.
Fwiw, my TET is 500 of enanthate, or cypionate. I trade off to keep receptors fresh. EQ @ 500 and Primbolan @100. Proviron 25-50. Then take Anastrozle once a week.
Since I get so many blood tests I see whats going on with my body. If I test the day of injection my test is close is in the 3000 range. 5 days later I'm around 2200. My SHBG is very low so sex drive is like a kid.
No one ever believes I'm in my sixties, and I'm loving it!

I lost all my lower body hair, I was immensely tired, had no interest in sex and had injuries that would not heal, was sore for days after gym and the list of negative symptoms such as feelings of impending doom and minor life issues feeling insurmountable. I was also lacking confidence and suffering brain fog etc... and the list of negative symptoms could still go on further.
My testosterone levels were barely within the low-end of the normal range and my lutenising hormone (LH) was 31 times normal levels and my follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) was 15 times normal levels...you bet I needed TRT.
I was pleased that the presenter provided potential downsides of TRT and mentioned primary hypogonadism as a condition whereTRT is warranted. This is not always done by other peesenters. However, there was no discussion about other hormones involved in the pituitary gonadal axis. Elevated LH and FSH will provide much important information and help with diagnosing primary hypogonadism. During most TRT discussions, these 2 hormones are rarely mentioned. A primary hypogonadal diagnosis is not purely based upon total testosterone levels. Other hormone levels, such as estradiol and shbg, are important too.
For me, since starting TRT, life has been infinitely better. 21:44 I have no acne, no (head) hair loss, more body hair (but less than I had before). More interest in sex, more muscle mass, less body fat, more confidence and injuries heal etc.
The testosterone of choice where I live is testosterone undecanoate, of which I receive 1000 mg 7-8 weekly. I am also on low dose anastrazole to keep my estradiol levels in check. I was getting sore puffy nipples....so, yeah, TRT can potentially cause gynocomastia. That is the only negative side-effect I've had.
As the presenter said, don't take TRT if everything is working, but if you are suffering symptoms like I had, therapeutic TRT will likely make you feel a whole lot better.

I’m one of those rare one-offs. I got into a car accident 5 years ago on my way home from work because I fell asleep behind the wheel in traffic. No amount of caffeine or energy drinks would work. I’d sleep for 8 hours or more waking up as if I never slept at all and start falling asleep the next day, had no sex drive or real drive for anything even when not working.
After the accident my wife says something is seriously wrong you need to get yourself checked. My first testosterone test was 285, one week later next test was 292, my next test was 195, then 92. So after a myriad of tests and screen for cancer, doctors checked all of my blood work and my thyroid, prostate and pituitary thinking I had cancer, as what else could possibly make me stop producing testosterone all together. No cancer, thank you God!
But doctors and my urologists don’t have an answer. My body just stopped producing testosterone at 41 years, my muscles started to atrophy, my stomach started growing larger while the rest of my body shrunk, and I began aging very quickly.
Doctors got me on medically prescribed trt, and within a year, my life was transformed. Now at 46, I have to apply 4 pumps a day and 1 injection a week because my body doesn’t make it, but I can now drive safely, I have no more sleep apnea, and my acid reflux is completely gone. My love life is way better than it has ever been and I actually have a desire to get up and go.
    Thank you LORD!
I’ve never met anyone with my condition, most of the people i meet that go on trt, it’s because they used hard steroids and killed their body’s natural test production.
As Dr. Mike says, if your numbers appear low but everything is seemingly well for you physically and intimately, don’t mess with what’s working. You don’t need it.

So even if you take many tests a few times a day over a few days different labs are going to have different results. If you take only one test we'll that seems pretty worthless.
Then add to that just because you are in the normal range that might not be normal for you.

@@arc0006 Yup. The best you can do is always use the same lab and get your blood draw at the same time of day.

Of course. However, it still brings into question the validity of the testing. As the numbers from one lab to another could be wildly different. Putting the same person well in or outside the normal range. Different testing procedures from different labs? Different levels of quality control at different labs? Or is the technology just not yet at a level to be truly reliable? 🤔

Absolutely phenomenal video! Thank you so much for helping me understand TRT. My doctor was trying to convince me to start taking it because I’m on the low end of the scale, even though I don’t have any symptoms. I almost made a life changing decision for little benefit.

I've been on trt for about 5 years. Levels were like 290. I'm currently 47yrs old. I didn't really have symptoms but decided to do it anyway. I'm definitely leaner and slightly more jacked. I didn't really need trt but wanted it anyway. Now I'm having regrets, this is forever. The point is to make good decisions because chances are there's no going back.

Uh switch to hcg, and cycle off and it's not forever. The hell 😂
Most people can get much higher test from having more muscle mass, being active, good rest, good meals.
Your test could be higher now than it was previously. The longer you're on trt the less you'll recover.

I think another big point is age to consider. Myself being 41, I was 392 and felt low T symptoms. TRT has mad a huge improvement in my life. At my age naturally it is only going to go down.

For sure. Though every now and again you get a younger person who has very low T as well, and that's a trip. - Dr. Mike

Funny how differently these things are looked at. I'm 40 and my T's been as low as 288 and around 350 at the high end and no doctor thinks it's a problem. Even with symptoms.

@@RenaissancePeriodization Yeah, but not too surprising when habits, lifestyles, and environmental conditions of late are getting less and less healthy. Junk and fast food, partying too much, limiting attitudes/mindsets, overly sedentary/gaming too much, plastics surrounding us, weird/extreme stuff that is highly stressful happening in society like school and mass shootings, hormones/antibiotics/pesticide residues in food, etc
Kind of a perfect storm. I could easily see or believe that T levels tended to be collectively higher in the earlier 1900's to before. The only thing we got going for us now, is better medicine and a greater amount and variety of food.
