Fav is Popa, Least fav is Gimme a light.Yes, she did try to switch it up but didn't follow through all the way. she needs to switch it up like you said more boldly or people will forget about her....
Need ice to keep with the smooth flow, talk about personal/new perspectives rather than flex, and team up with someone other than riot (Arca, hudmo, metro boomin, shygirl). The creativity isn’t there
@@ViDEOGiRLX2 I think that it's there as a nod to "trashy" 2000's style and fashion, which Ice does embody quite well, but she still could have put the album title on the wall and kept the trash can in the album cover, just not write anything on it. Keep the "trashy" reference but keep the album title away from it.
@@altairwithnoSI just wish the entire internet would realize Y2K is not 2000-2009…it’s more so 97/98-2001ish MAYBE 2002. It’s high tech, space-age, illustrious, and futuristic. She being the LITERAL Millennium baby of 1/1/2000 should have done that instead.
It would have been really cool to see her follow through the theme of 'Y2K' in the music too. And the album cover wasn't really giving y2k either....I know she was born on Jan 1st 2000 so it has a personal meaning to her, but I think it was definitely a missed opportunity. Like imagine all the amazing y2k samples she could have used!
I literally think she musically regressed. She actually had some really fun or memorable songs at the start and she sadly really confirmed with us that she is stagnant.
i actually liked that she changed her flow on some of the songs (ex:popa), unfortunately, the songs are too short and her voice doesn't keep up with the beats to have an effect on me. it just sounds like this album was exploring different sounds/flows without actually executing them to the fullest potential. having an album be less than 30 minutes is a joke within itself, she should have made this another ep, i feel people would be more sympathetic towards her if it was.
This! It’s obvious she’s trying to distance herself from the “only has one flow” allegations and props to her for taking criticism into consideration and trying to improve her skills, and trying new things. But the execution isn’t good. Is there absolutely no one in her team who could be honest with her? I find it hard to believe a “Nicki protégé” does this on an album and absolutely no one, not even Nicki, were able to be honest with her. I hope they disassociate with each other because it’s obvious they’re not even that close and I don’t see any benefits to her career from the Nicki association.
i also wanted to note that the weirdest part (imo, just mine) of this rollout is the y2k tour starting almost exactly after the album had dropped. it’s kind of debatable but the time difference between tour and an album doesn’t let fans listen to the music and learn to enjoy it.
I think Ice Spice is in a bad but not unsalvageable position. Sure, she's in decline, but she still has over 20 million monthly listeners, and is an extremely iconic celebrity with great star power. She's not like a one-hit wonder who is only known for a single song, but has a well developed personality and sound - everyone knows who Ice Spice is. If she does something interesting or good, people will pay attention - she doesn't need to fight for it. All she needs to do is make those changes to redeem her image and show the world what she is capable of and she will easily have a successful career going forward
i just want to say that i really adore how you write your videos theyre so succinct but comprehensive, sassy without being obnoxious. theyre classy enough for me to send them to my oblivious male friends to show them whats happening in the female music space without them dismissing it as tea or drama :) thank you so much for posting and i love ur entire vibe
omg!!! i LOVE your voice and the way you deliver information!!🥰🥰 this is exactly the kind of video that people (myself included) love to put on in the background while cleaning, and because your voice is so relaxing its nice to listen to while also soaking up information. perfect tie of personal opinion and facts lined out with a timeline that is easy to follow. Since a lot of the visuals are relevant clips, letting the audio listener know to look at the screen for anything visually important might be helpful in the future but you did a fantastic job making the visuals engaging with the audio in this video! If your hesitant to make longer videos, i'd like to reassure you that you could narrate a 2h long video and i'd happily listen!! (but PLEASE don't do that if you never wanted to!! plz don't take this as me telling you that you should, just saying you could!!) keep up the good work!🤗💜💞
I knew stuff was going to start going downhill as soon as she “signed” with Nicki. The collabs were cute, especially Princess Diana, it was nice to see this “mother x daughter” dynamic, and the Barbie aesthetics. But that should’ve been it. Signing with Nicki made it a bit more serious, and people who were introduced to her through Nicki probably expected a Nicki “protégé” to be way more lyrically talented than Ice is - no offense, but she’s not a lyrical rapper and that’s fine, lyrical rap isn’t the only type of rap that deserves to exist. She came across as someone chill, and not that she didn’t take herself seriously, but that she was just going with the flow and it worked out for her. Her career took off because of memes and she leaned into that as well, she came across as likeable. I remember saying I liked her “just because” and people getting so mad about it. There was this effortless likeableness about her that she has unfortunately gradually lost. In the meanwhile, she’s unlikeable to the point that it feels like the part of her public persona that was carried by the memes had to be filled with yet more twerking and oversexualizing of her image, as compensation. Like Nicki and like most rap girls, to be honest, her fandom was made up of gays and girls, and it seems no one in her team was even aware of that, they want her to appeal to straight males. So, her main audience was alienated, and this early in her career already. Nicki’s own reputation suffered a few hits these past few years and it kinda rubbed off on Ice. They kinda linked up at the worst time. This just wasn’t the right mentor for her, if she even wanted one, and from the start I was confused because they do not have much in common apart from being from NY and being attractive black women who are known for their figure. The situation with her friend exposing her messages also exposed that they’re not actually as close as it’s portrayed. I believe Nicki associated herself with Ice for secondary reasons, one of them being probably just to spite other rap girls who didn’t get her seal of approval. Ice isn’t dumb so she obviously took the opportunity. Picking fights with rappers known to no get along with Nicki also comes across as quite pathetic. It’s like they’re sending her to Barbz jail if she doesn’t shade Latto or Cardi at least once a week. The quality of the album exposed how amateur her and her team are. Again, not a bad thing, no one is born knowing everything, but it showed that they’re just not ready for big projects. Her debut EP was nice and so was the rollout, but having to produce a shorter album quite literally didn’t give them enough time to f*ck up and make it bad. A full album though is big enough to give you a margin of error… the beats are nice, and honestly her producer should branch out because it’s a shame to see beats that good be used by a quite underwhelming rapper. I have to give her credit for her clear evolution regarding performing on stage and her attempting to move on from the “whisper rap” style. Unfortunately trying to deliver her verses differently doesn’t work that well for her, especially when it’s a bit too obviously inspired by Nicki - you know, her “mentor”. It’s like she read a bad tutorial on how to be a rapper. She definitely TRIES, but it seems they’re kinda lost on what actually matches her, and it’s jarring because they actually got it right at some point. But all is not lost for her, and I think it starts with redirecting her towards her OG audience, the girls and the gays. Just make pretty girl music 🤷🏾♀️ Edit: I didn’t realize how big this was, my bad 💀
@@pinkiiprincess my bad, I was just repeating what I heard Barbz themselves say. They have a partnership instead. In my defense, I did put it between quotation marks because I wasn’t too sure lol

The fact they kept the Y2K on the trashcan is certainly a...choice.
Yeah! She said there was a reason behind it on Twitter but I’m still not sure what that reason is?🥲🍏
Well it makes more sense for the album
