Amazing videos here. I am following the reproduction list. One detail to point out is this video is in another, so it is repeated. But is not a big deal.
It is! We pulled out this topic and made it a standalone video, because a lot of people were searching for who vs whom specifically. We're glad you're watching! 💜🦉
Hello! Socratica ;) You are so nice and beautiful! I understood the difference, we could say: When we have a subject p. the next one must be object p. and viceversa. Or just ask with one and answer with the same. Example: To whom this belongs? It belongs to him. You should have more views and likes. Kind regards!
I'm still confused, I don't fully understand out side of these examples how to discover who is the subject or object in a sentence, and I can't track it to an example because they both seem to point to the same thing but the difference is still unknown to me.
This is such a challenging topic. Can you make up some examples for yourself, so you can use them as a test case? It can help if you have something you can fall back on in this way. For instance, Who gave you the cake? Mary. She gave it to you. You wouldn't say "her gave it to you," so you know you wouldn't say "whom" gave it to you. She and who go together (they're subject pronouns) and her and whom go together (they're object pronouns). Now let's make an example for the object pronouns: You gave the cake to Mary. You gave it to her. You gave it to whom?
Please make this one clear for me. Who do you want or whom do want? My another question is how to use the word "owe?" I know what it means. I owe $5. This means I have taken five dollars from someone and I am yet to pay what I owe, now my question here is I owe him five dollars, does this mean that I have given it to someone? I am very confused. Please make a video where you can clear this doubt or reply me, I owe you my life, I don't know what it's all about, is it I am giving my life to you because I am forever grateful to you? You owe me something, you owe me does this mean that someone is supposed to pay you back? Please explain, I guess my doubts are clear and unclear.
Hi Drummerinthe Park ! Thanks for watching! First, your question about "who do you want" vs "whom do you want" - try applying the examples from this video who vs. whom. One technique is to try answering the question with he or him, to tell if you want a subject pronoun or an object pronoun. Would you say "I want he" or I want him." You would say "I want him." That's how you know you need an object pronoun (me, him, her, whom, them, etc.) as opposed to a subject pronoun (I, he, she, who, they, etc.). "Owe" refers to a debt that has not yet been paid. If you owe someone $5, maybe they bought something for you that cost $5, or maybe they lent you $5 - in any case, you need to give them $5 back sometime in the future. When you say "I owe you my life" - it's sort of an exaggeration that someone did something so big for you that you could never pay them back. We'd love to hear what other videos you might find helpful. Thanks again for visiting and your interesting questions.
Heeheee! Good grammar will definitely set you apart on FB! Let's see. Try substituting in he or him. He corresponds to who, and him corresponds to whom. That is, if you can use he, then you should use the word who. If you would use him instead of he, then you would use whom. We recommend this substitution because people use he and him all the time, and are more familiar with those words. The man - he is tall. The man - him is tall. These are both kind of weird sentences, but the first one makes sense. You wouldn't ever say "him is tall," so you know you wouldn't say "whom is tall." He is a subject, just like who is a subject. Him is an object, just like whom is an object.
*Which word do I use - who or whom*?
Short and sweet.

Thanks for watching, Nelis de Vijfde ! We're so glad you're finding them helpful. :)
Thanks
What if you feel pretentious using the word whom?
I love you thank you
You can always use WHO.
Whom is getting phased out.
Please make this one clear for me.
Who do you want or whom do want?
