What I love about Orla is so much of her character's humor is added by the actress. Like we learn so much about her from random things she's doing in the background that aren't part of the script. She really elevated the character!
Shame that they didn't utilise Orla more. She's hilarious when she's reacting to events in the background, but it would have been nice to see her get a major storyline.
"Don't say knickers in front of your father. He can't cope." 😂That's such a funny line and so ridiculous. With everything going on at that time , the word knickers would have been the least of Erin's Dad's worries
Orla's mental is another hilarious line out of so many. And it's one way of looking at her, but I think she might be the only sane one in a crowd of basket cases in this amazing show. That's my theory at least.
Orla's father is never seen or mentioned. James' father is also never seen. He's only mentioned once, briefly, by Cathy. We don't know his name, where he is, or even if he's alive.
When ORla turned with the nuns head that was the exact moment I fell in love with the show . I had a bit of a hard time catching the what's going on , and what is the show but that scene of Sis Michael walking in on them all ,that is good television , I rewatch it every now and then for a good laugh , and recommend it to my friends . I relate to Orla the most when im high haha.
I love how she never complains and is up for anything. That makes her Lords fool right? Sweetest girl there. Such a funny archetype but underused. She should have some crazy discovery arc where pple would see how far can she go without yealding and accepting the mundane. Like Charlie Day or something.. That would be something .. Seeing here in the background she is like sheer untapped potencial!
In fact.. it would be best imho.. if miracles actualy did work for her in the story. Like, she prays for some nonsense in the background of all the more noticable shenanigans in the front and it actualy happens without anybody else even noticing. And she does not even coment on it much because this happens to be her magical realism "normal". Like me, not being a jungle native, would not recognize a jaguar on a background of jungle, Orlas compatriots being nonbelieveres cant recognize a miracle even though they are starign directly at it manifesting. Awww.. this would be so much fun..
Orla is an excellent example of a kind of character/person that might be referred to here in the US as a "space cadet." Now, that term is often used in a derogatory fashion, but I think Orla is a shining positive example of the most common definition I've heard of the term: Namely, someone who "lives in their own little world," or to put it another way, someone who marches to the beat of a drummer only they can hear.
The Virgin Mother smirked at us, Peter. That is correct. Orla is easily led. Thank you, Aunt Mary. I have had it with you, James, and your picking, picking, picking. What are you on about, Erin? What are you on about, Orla?
I never would have been interested in watching "Derry Girls" if it wasn't for watching this clip. Orla is my spirit animal. All the characters and antics are hilarious.
@@andrewq159 you must be in the minority, what can I say?? Have more of an Irish sense of humour?? Honestly it's not that important really, maybe write your own TV comedy.....
Orla has the most appropriate surname I've ever seen in a character
Mind you Uncle Colm also shares that last name. 😄😄😄
@@SunamHauxColm is badass

Has Lisa McGee said why she under-represented Orla?
“I know what I saw.” Oral’s best line.

I like how Orla is the only one interested in Colm’s stories

Orla's dance in the very last episode is such a wondeerful moment.
Orla was such a great character. Never a dull moment.
"They're just people exactly like us, except different" 😂😂
“Protestants hate Abba”.. best line ever.
Even funnier when you think about how Abba are from Sweden, a country that's overwhelmingly Lutheran -- or, if you will, .... Protestant. 😅
It's fitting because the UK gave ABBA 0 points at Eurovision
very true tho...
As someone that was age 10 to 20 in the 90s the music fashions and trends in this are so nostalgic for me
The nostalgia continues with other things such as Ma Mary working at Woolworths. You don't see those anymore.
I agree 100%
They sweat the details writing the script. It’s wildly funny but treats the conflict seriously enough too. Even got me a bit teary at the end.
‘I don’t smoke either. I just like melting stuff."
i'm OBSESSED with orla. she's the absolute best!!
Orla is underused. She should've been at the centre of at least one storyline.
I agree. I loved the show but was hoping there’d be an episode in the final series which focused on Orla.
Agreed, she was one of the main characters, but the closest thing Orla got to a main storyline was the step aerobics.
@@trinaq And she's overshadowed in that ep by Erin & Clare.
@@trinaq That's the best scene of the entire series, imo.
She's at the centre of her own storyline.
The scene where they find the sheep and Orla calls it the Polar bear is absolutely 10/10

This actress is hilarious and really makes this character steal a ton of scenes. My daughter loves this show and I think it's funny as hell!
The greatest show to ever have been produced!! Just effing brilliant in every second!🤩😍🥰
i so agree
I burst out laughing when Orla said, I just don't understand what they eat.
7:43 That intro with that music is perfect
“There was a 🐆 on the 🏝️ one time” “Ah that was grey hound Orla”
“I know what I saw”
why the emojis?
Sometimes when i'm alone cooking or something i just keep repeating "does he just really like wells, aye?"
I love this. Watched the whole set a while back. Excellent. Reminds me of my convent education but more outrageous.
The reading of the diary in final scene was EPIC :D
Orla sniffing her own hair, then a stranger's hair, on the way to Portrush, is comedy gold.
This show is sooo underrated… this show needs more recognition!!!! ❤❤❤
She's brilliant love her
Orla dancing to Madonna ❤❤❤❤
“Lesbians Really Do Exist”

Orla reading the diary at the end of the first episode one of my fav moments in whole show
Orla can be bleak ,but brutally right on the mark ...she is so funny!!!
Orla, Sarah and Colm are definitely on the spectrum or something...
Laugh cry laugh again, Oscar-worthy, Ty.
They have such lovely accents. If only I could understand more than half.
“He’s a wee Ethiopian fella from Ballybofey”
