    I did the WAIS4 about three years ago as I have a brain injury causing a lot of problems associated with all the bullet points in the bottom boxes. I found them quite stressful, especially the block design, which did unfortunately make me cry. I had three hours of tests in total, 2 hours then 1 hour. Tbh, I don't know why they didn't do 3x1 hour sessions. They weren't testing my overall IQ so I wasn't told that score but I did a get a detailed breakdown of my sores on the subtests. I scored much worse than they expected me to, compared to averages from other people with similar problems/brain damage to me. I had another neurology test recently, which has given me the 'go-ahead' to have brain surgery. Exciting to me as I have been wanting and waiting for years, but probably terrifying to most people, especially my family.

    While this overview far surpasses my skill sets at present., I appreciate the how some very complex information is presented, conveyed, and made comprehensible for novices such as myself. I truly appreciate this upload.

    Well, of course, thank you. I'm taking Psychological Testing at this time in college.
    We are studying Intelligent Tests of all kinds.
    One thing, in taking this class I have answered one question that has haunted me for years, "Am I Dumd." As I have always suspected the answer is "YES."
    Testing is a fascinating area of study, and you really have posted one of the best videos that I have watched.
    My thanks again and keep up the good works.

      @X-Ray Crystallography You make some excellent points. My spelling of "Dumb" was supposed to get the attention. I am certainly interested in the methods of learning as it is connected to everyone's psyche, especially being dyslexic.

      @X-Ray Crystallography that’s not how IQ tests work.
      It’s not a knowledge test. It’s a test of mental abilities. You don’t practice for it.

    I heard the story of an elderly psychiatrist, trained using the original Wechsler-Bellevue I test, that continued to use that test edition in his practice and didn't get each new revision, primarily because he had come to understand the test on a deep level and could draw comparisons between clients with ease. Ha!

    This lecture reviews the WAIS-III. The new WAIS-IV contains significant changes in comparison.

    • @candaceohara9916
      @candaceohara9916 5 років тому +1

      The WAIS-IV, current version released in 2008, is composed of 10 core subtests and five supplemental subtests, with the 10 core subtests yielding scaled scores that sum to derive the Full Scale IQ. With the WAIS-IV, the verbal/performance scores from previous versions were removed (omissions) and replaced by index scores. The General Ability Index was included, which consists of Similarities, Vocabulary, and Information subtests from the Verbal Comprehension Index and Block Design, Matrix Reasoning, and Visual Puzzles subtests from the Perceptual Reasoning Index. WAIS-IV employs the multiple choice format more than WAIS-III or previous versions.

    Is it possible for a person to do " poorly " on a Iq test if they get nervous or feel so uncomfortable to where they cannot " stay focus " ? I often perform better whenever I`m feeling relaxed and not under stress.

      It must interfere, i took the WAIS IV while suffering from a deep depression (existencial crisis) and being high all day (also during the test) and got a 137 Full-ScaleIQ. Although they told me i got many "excellent" marks on pretty much everything, my processing speed was just average while normally i was know by my close friends and family to be really fast and logical. My psychologist pointed that due to all the medication + drugs i was taking at the moment to paliate my depression affected really badly on my score on that field, as it did on the memory test (above average but nothing especial)

    THE WECHSLER SCALES OF INTELLIGENCE
    Wechsler consistently defined intelligence as "the aggregate or global capacity of the individual to act purposefully, to think rationally and to deal effectively with his environment" (Wechsler, 1958, p. 7).
    He also emphasized that intelligence involved more than intellectual ability, although "the capacity to do intellectual work is a necessary and important sign of general intelligence" (Wechsler, 1958, p. 12). General intelligence or, more precisely, intelligent behavior depends on such variables as "persistence, drive, energy level, etc." (Wechsler, 1949, p. 5).
    Beginning in the 1930s, David Wechsler, a psychologist at Bellevue Hospital in New York City, conceived a series of elegantly simple instruments that virtually defined intelligence testing in the mid- to late twentieth century.
    Origins of the Wechsler Tests:
    Wechsler began work on his first test in 1932, seeking to devise an instrument suitable for testing the diverse patients referred to the psychiatric section of Bellevue Hospital in New York (Wechsler, 1932). In describing the more reading

      Rebecca146 Hey Rebecca, the prime average time to complete the WAIS-IV is about 3 hours. It really depends on many factors like if the test taker takes longer to respond to each test. Hope that helps.

    On that one about the similarities between a lake and a mountain, is the test looking for a statement that they are both geographic features? Because that’s all that comes to mind for me.

    We can remember 7 digit phone numbers because we the first three are usually a string of a set of digits beginning a number in a geography. We actually remember about 4, as neuroscience seems to demonstrate. My performance on the Wais was "suspiciously" inconsistent: very high on some subtests, low average on others. Nerves and a disorder called pathological mind wandering (daydreaming) and extreme social anxiety, both of which probable symptoms of ptsd, ruined my focus. (That's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it.) I'm in the arts, highly successful and innovative, so my IQ score is irrelevant. Interesting, though, when in graduate school, I took an official advanced Raven progressive matrices as part of a study and scored in the 99.8%ile. Perhaps this was because I found the test interesting and absent someone putting all his or her attention on me while I performed.

    • @Matheus16905
      @Matheus16905 3 роки тому +1

      This suspicious inconsistency is called assynchronous development: if you're very high verbally, for instance, maybe you're low in some other cluster.

    I entered the test thrice on the first I scored 140 on the second I scored 126 on the third i scored 136 i am a bit bamboozled by this can you clarify if this is normal for the fluctuations to happen ,the tests took 2 months appart.

    • @2kfunky746
      @2kfunky746 4 роки тому

      It's definitely normal to have fluctuations in IQ, because there are factors that could influence a higher or lower score. For instance, stress from work, tiredness from partying, or nervousness from taking the test. Usually, IQ tests have a standard confidence interval attached to the subsections, or if not, you can't find it by taking the 90% probability range from the bell curve distribution. A score from 140-126 isn't really all out of the ordinary. It's very rare that would happen, but nothing that would signal a deficiency in the test, or something like a concussion/brain damage.

    Calling someone with an IQ above 130 a genius seems like a bit of a stretch. I know plenty of people in that IQ range. Gifted perhaps, but I always thought you'd need to have an IQ of around 145 before the word "genius" gets thrown around.
