    To take this a little further find the relationship (percentage) of the area of the inscribed square to the area of a square circumscribed about the circle.

    22.5079. But you went around the barn about 5 times before going in the front door. 100/pi gives the diagonal. Then the diagonal/sqrt(2) gives the side since the ratio of the sides of a 45 degree triangle is 1:1:sqrt(2).

    Area of circle is 795.775 cm^2. Exactly encircled square is 63.66% area of circle --> 506.591 cm^2. Side = √506.591 = 22.0576 cm.

    I'm confused, isn't pie r^2 ( diameter) used for the area not the circumference

      r^2 doesn't give you the diameter, 2 times r gives you the diameter.

      C = pi*d or 2*pi*r^2
      A = pi*r^2 or pi*d^2/4
      Those are fundamentals you need to be familiar with.
      Also, for future reference, the area of a square will be one-half the diagonal squared.
      (i.e., if diagonal is 10 area equals 50)

    I had to look this up real quick for figuring contact points for a retainer clip I'm designing. I like that you wrote it out like a school paper would require, so commenting to bump it. -
    How I did it on the calc; take the Diameter (used calipers to get my #) Square it, divide by 2, unsquare it = answer. but I don't have to prove my work like in school.
    Thank you

      Perfect.. diagonal = diameter = dia.
      dia2=2s2

    I just had to work this out for a cake of all things, but I knew the value of d rather than the value of c.
    I came up with the equation * Square root of (d^2 / 2) *, and just used your method to confirm! I guess that equation could get a bit messy though if your d value is something like 100 / pi. Works well if d is a round number!

    If we put C=2πr in S equation.. then S=r×√2 ?? Correct?

    Why the diagonal of square equal diameter of circle? There is a proof?

    There’s gotta be a simpler method… this is ridiculous…. A simple division of diameter divided by 1.4142 gives the same answer…. It’s the same concept of diameter times pie…. It’s just a formula….yeah it sounds much more intelligent to do all the math, but in reality you don’t have to… intelligent people are not that common sensed at times… they know nothing of short cuts… the “short cut” phrase sends “intelligent” people into a state of emotional distress and they then in turn need to seek help from a counselor.

      Where did you get 1.4142 from?
