Same here Gary & yes to "Magic Carpet Ride"! I saw Steppenwolf perform at a 2 day music festival in Toronto.....in 1969. Omg, it certainly doesn't feel like 55 years ago.

"Born To Be Wild" was essentially the theme song for the movie "Easy Rider" back in 1969. Finally got to see Steppenwolf live on their last world tour in 2007, when they were opening for Deep Purple, a really awesome show.
I was looking for this comment about the movie Easy Rider. The 2 are inextricably linked in my mind. Definitely worth watching, as it gives a totally ‘60s vibe through the whole thing. Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, Jack Nicholson. Epic road trip movie on motorcycles. 😊

Hendrix was my first concert in 69, but he got busted at Toronto airport for drugs the day of the concert, and the concert was delayed over an hour until he got released and got to Maple Leaf Gardens. The Doors was my second, and Zeppelin was my third, so I got off to a good start.

It might be fun to pick a particular year - say 1967 and play 6 random songs by 6 different artists/bands that came out that year. I think you’ll find the range of sounds and styles will really alter your idea of what music sounded like during different eras. It was crazy different every week as I recall.
I agree, there was so much more variety than categorizing by decade might lead someone to believe. You can hear in just one week's songs influences from different times and genres, new genres being invented, a crazy salad of great music!
This came out in my senior year of high school. It really captured my generation’s love of muscle cars and rebellion against societal conformity. Never thought I’d still be around 55 years later but I’m so happy when I see young people like you rediscovering the great music from those days. Keep up the great work you’re doing to keep this music alive.
Steppenwolf was a Canadian-American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1967. Steppenwolf sold over 25 million records worldwide, released seven gold albums (500-thousand albums sold) and one platinum album (1million albums sold), and had 13 US Billboard Hot 100 singles, of which seven were Top 40 hits, including three top 10 successes: "Born to Be Wild", "Magic Carpet Ride" and "Rock Me". Steppenwolf enjoyed worldwide success from 1968 to 1972.
This and "Magic Carpet Ride" are their two biggest hits, but this is a band that's really worth diving into deep cuts for. "Jupiter's Child", "The Pusher", and "Hey Lawdy Mama" are all must-listens.
Always fun to hear this song!!! Another great band of the sixties and seventies is The Guess Who!!! Star baby is my favorite but they have some really great songs! American Woman, No Sugar Tonight and No Time just to name a few. Does anyone else want to see our boy react to The Guess Who???🤪😉😍
I saw Mark Farnum at a county fair in 2005 - was he fired from (or did he quit?) GFR? Because the show I saw was a solo act under his name, but it wasn't all of GFR. I could've sworn the band had broken up prior to that.
Love this band! Magic Carpet Ride is my all time favorite... Love it so much... and have a sweet teenage memory attached to it.. of being asked to dance to Magic Carpet Ride by a college boy when I was a very sheltered 14 years old... so it is deeply fried in my brain of one of the best nights of my life.. forever love them..
This was popular when I was a Freshman in high school in 1970. It does make you feel good and I loved the 60’s music but it was my older sister’s music. This was the beginning of the music of my teens and what a decade the 70’s music was.

Went to a Steppenwolf concert in 1970. When they finished their set the lights came up and about 50 cops lined the front of the stage. After about 25 minutes, with the audience still there screaming our heads off and the lights still up, they returned to the stage and broke into a 15 minute jam of Magic Carpet Ride. As they wound it down and you thought it was over, they slid into Born to be Wild--the crowd, as they say went even wilder. They jammed it for another 15 minutes or so, all the lights in the place still on and those cops still fronting the stage. Best damn concert I ever saw--by far.
First of all I love your Chanel. I love your passion for music. This is one of my favourite songs. What great memories! Thank you for doing what you do.
So glad to see you reacting to 50's and 60's rock. I was born in 1953 so i pretty much grew up listening to all these songs. I was fortunate to get to hear all the changes that came in the world of rock. This song was the theme song in the movie EASY RIDER in which two Harley chopper riding long hairs took a wild adventurous ride scross the country. There's a lot of other good music in there too. If you get the chance to see it please do. I'm sure you will enjoy it. Don't miss out on s really great movie. Love your reactions and I want to thank you for the beautiful memories.❤❤❤
They were a Canadian/American band formed in LA. I always think of Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper riding their Harleys in the movie Easy Rider when I hear this song.
I was 16. Song had just dropped. It was our theme song. Four girls in a 1968 Camaro driving to Lake Okoboji. Blasting Born to be Wild on an 8-Track player.
The thing I find interesting about these reactions is that the music reacted to, are the commercial cuts, that were played on the radio. They were the songs selected from albums that made it on the airwaves. There were countless excellent songs that never got their due. These songs remain on the scrap heap except to those of us that grew up in this era. I personally have over three thousand albums to remind me of the days gone by. The only stations that were playing "B" side cuts were independent stations which went to the wayside when bought out by the conglomerates. When Clear Channel bought out the independents that was the end of a musical journey.
An awesome Canadian band.. that's right.. CANADIAN EH.. Well they did re-form in LA but were originally from Toronto and some of them from other parts like Edmonton. so ok let's agree... Canadian-American so we all had a part in this timeless tune.
John Kaye was always seen wearing sunshades. He wasn't trying to be cool, he has a real sensitivity to light. Good find on Steppenwolf. People are going to recommend "Magic Carpet Ride", but "Monster" or "The Pusher" are great songs to review. I believe John Kaye is Canadian and the band is American
The Pusher, Rock Me and Sookie, Sookie would be great ones as well. Great amount of fantastic songs by Steppenwolf. If you like to read I'd recommend Hermann Hesses "Steppenwolf", which the band was named after. A really good book.
My parents had several 8-track tapes when I was a kid and one of them was Steppenwolf's greatest hits. This song and Magic Carpet ride were among the many greats I grew up listening to on my parents' stereo. (God Damn The Pusher was also on that 8-track, but I was too young to understand that one at the time.)
Listen once for the vocals, again for the drums, the bass, the guitar, the organ….you’re right about the 90s garage bands trying to get back to the rawness of 60s groups
Another great Bay Area Jam Band from the ‘60’s. This was the theme for the movie Easy Rider, and my generation took it to heart. Their song “Monster” is a favorite protest song. Worth a deep dive. And my favorite “decade” for music was 1965-75. Think about it.✌️❤️🎶

You’re correct… Just like Fashion…. Music can definitely take a vibe from the past. Clothes that are worn today…. I wore in the 80s… Back in the 80s, we wore clothes that were actually made and worn in the 50s & 60s, we have lots of vintage stores here in L.A.I actually bought a beautiful vintage dress when I was 19 years old… and wore it around 1985 … that dress was from the very late 50s or early 60s👍
This is the Theme Song to the Mega Biker Hit "Easy Rider"! "Magic Carpet Ride" next please! Then "The Pusher"... Got to see John Kay & Steppenwolf live in 1979....Heavy Metal Thunder! Steppenwolf is from Toronto Canada!
The phrase "Heavy Metal Thunder" is often credited as the inspiration for calling hard rock music "Heavy Metal". This was quite heavy for the time, along with Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, and a few others.

Love this song. Totally classic. Unforgettable.
This one was also used in the movie “Easy Rider” where a couple of hippie drug dealers ride their motorcycles across America. So double nostalgia.
Trust me man you're not the only one that gets chills listening to this sort of music
This is definitely a racing down the road with the sound cranked up tune
One of the best movie sound tracks
This was the first hard rock track I ever heard. Before this track, music never sounded like this. It was a new chapter.
One of my all time favorite songs!! Magic Carpet ride is on my favorite song list too!
They were a Canadian/American band formed in LA. I always think of Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper riding their Harleys in the movie Easy Rider when I hear this song.
That film was an iconic slice of counter-culture americana. Complete with BANGIN' soundtrack.
"Tune in, turn on and drop out!"
30 Days in the Hole
Song by Humble Pie
Yes!!!
I thought so, thanks for confirming 👍
There are so many amazing bands coming from our country.
Triumph would be another great choice for a reaction as another 3 members band!!
Classic, classic song! Was only a matter of time that you reacted to this one. Awesome
This song is a must listen, for any rock reaction channel. It is one of those songs that should be heard atleast once.
The song is the reason heavy metal is called heavy metal!
The one and only time I sang Karaoke. On stage with fifteen others drunks on a pub crawl. Can't imagine how bad we made this song sound.
I saw Steppenwolf in '79, Great show!!!
Such a great song and a wonderful time in the world! Thanks MB
The Pusher, Rock Me and Sookie, Sookie would be great ones as well. Great amount of fantastic songs by Steppenwolf. If you like to read I'd recommend Hermann Hesses "Steppenwolf", which the band was named after. A really good book.
now thats some great recommendations..makes me think of strawberry alarm clock too
Born in the right music decade !
😎 🤓 😎
Love this song! Never gets old! ❤
You make the day so much better. The comments are great today. Today is a "Magic Carpet Ride." Thanks Molly Boy. We're born to be wild!
✌️😁❤️👍🎶🎶🎶
Its time for Strawberry Alarm Clock. Incense and Peppermints...same time period
I concur
One of my favorites!
Ed King of Lynyrd Skynyrd Fame was originally in Strawberry Alarm Clock
@@stevea3271 wow didnt know that
classic rock 60’s bands - Beatles - Stones - Cream - Jimi Hendrix - Santana - Doors - Yardbirds - Led Zeppelin - Who - Pink Floyd - Jefferson Airplane - Janis Joplin (Big Brother) - Credence Clearwater - Allman Brothers - Animals 😎
A true rock n roll classic it doesn’t get any better . This is an anthem of the 60’s Iconic !!! 🎸🎵❤️😊
My older brothers were big Steppenwolf fans when I was little in the early 70s and blasted this all the time lol
Another great Bay Area Jam Band from the ‘60’s. This was the theme for the movie Easy Rider, and my generation took it to heart. Their song “Monster” is a favorite protest song. Worth a deep dive. And my favorite “decade” for music was 1965-75. Think about it.✌️❤️🎶
Without blowing smoke up your you know what I believe you to be probably the most genuine reactor I have watched. Some turn out to be not genuine after a while you realise. I think you Molly Boy have a real entrepreneurial spirit and are really quite smart/intelligent. You will go far no matter what you aspire to be or path you choose. Just had to say that. Love your musical choices so far. A little less sugar though man, try some water instead?!
@@56music64 I agree!!
Sugarloaf "Green Eyed Lady" 🔥...TRUST ME on this one my music lovin' brother!! 🔥
I concur!🔥
This one is great 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥❤❤❤ Now you gotta hear their "Magic Carpet Ride" ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻
Halito 👋🏽 I am thrilled you have discovered Steppenwolf 🤘🏽 please don't stop here, their best stuff is yet to come 🧡
You’re correct… Just like Fashion….
This kind of music got you all us GenXers and Boomers! This is OUR lives.
One of the most iconic rock songs of all time. Now you need to watch the movie Easy Rider.
That would be a shock to our antiquated system of life
My very first concert. Front row. 13 years old. Major contact stoned experience. Major fun. !
The line "Heavy Metal Thunder" is where the term Heavy Metal came from.🤘
The phrase "Heavy Metal Thunder" is often credited as the inspiration for calling hard rock music "Heavy Metal". This was quite heavy for the time, along with Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, and a few others.
❤ You and your channel MollyBoy!! Try not to break your “waffling” because when you think you’re saying too much you break your flow. Remember you can always edit what you want to keep. 😁 Your reactions and your “Wafling” are what make your channel!!! ❤❤❤✌️🤟👍👏
One of those turn it up to 11 songs when you hear that intro kick in.
The 1960's and 70's has the best music ever played and recorded. No autotune or gimmicks. Just pure talent and innovation.
