This song touched my heart when I went to see U2 in concert, I was back and forth trying to take care of my grandfather who raised me as if he was my father. And I knew that the sad time would come. And it always reminds me of my grandfather because he cried when he passed away. He lived a full life and was always very compassionate, thoughtful and very loving to me and my family. He always gave the best and wisest advise, and I miss him very very much everyday of my life.♾❤
I've had my say on this video before with my father being unwell, but Bono's tears at 1:28 just break me always. To show such obvious emotion in front of the fans and on video shows a real man. I'm not afraid to show my emotions but I found it hard to explain to my 2 and 5 year olds when I learnt about my dad. Adams knowing smile toward the end is one that shows the bondship these lads have. They love each other and always will. God bless U2.
He actually didn't. It was written about his daughters. The kite represents loss of control. Edge saw it as being about Bono's father and whatever it came to represent under the circumstances are completely different things to the original intent.
@@christopheranderson1968 Yep, bono dedicated kite to his father two months after this concert. 1 month after this one he flew home every night to be with Bob, who passed away between london and slane concerts. But the music was written with his children in mind
@@Heewson I do know the history of the song and what happened after, per my comment. I remember well it being in the news at the time that he was flying back and forth.
Always loved this song but it brought more meaning after suffering from a heart attack before my family. I came back thank God. I came home and heard this song I broke down and cried with my wife. "I know this is not goodbye" Thank you U2.
'Kite' is such a powerfull and just an honest song . Bono is a freaking genious on writing this masterpiece, nothing less . I loved U2 since I was 11 years old, but man, 'kite' ... ? It just doesn't get better than this, .. Brilliant song . !!
Its amazing , I purchased under a blood red dky in 84 and despite getting air play with 3 songs off war , When "Fire " broke it was an eye opener Two years later no one was wondering whi this bad was and despite. That level of market saturation 30 years later Everyone else is gone Beatles Beach boys U2 I dont think its much of a debate. Whether they belong in that top tier.
it was written and released on ATYCLB in 2000 Written about a random experience of flying kites with his kids, it forced him to think about his relationship with his own father who lay in a hospital dying of cancer. At a concert in London, the same day his father passed away, Bono said, "I wrote this for my kids, but now I think my old man wrote it for me" (The Sun, August 22, 2001).
Kite is the song I descend into when I need solace. It became my song nearly four years ago when my dad was diagnosed with cancer. It remains my song when I become emotional for any reason (and I do regularly. I went to work today and moved my gear into the comms room so the huge 6' 4" guy wasn't seen to be crying for no apparent reason). Still with us, my dad's been through the mill over the past few weeks and he's now being kept relaxed with morphine after I thought we were losing him on Sunday night. My mum went home, my brother went home, I went home then called my boss to tell him what was happening before cancelling my work trip to Aberdeen yesterday, packing a rucksack and heading to Marie Curie in Glasgow to be with my dad where I kept vigil through the night. He's still here but for how long? His quality of life since being diagnosed with a poor prognosis has been great. Holidays to Spain a couple of times a year, trips away, being a loving grandpa to his grandchildren. When the time comes and we have to close this chapter, I will confidently tell my dad, a great great grandpa to my son and daughter, a father I use as a role model, and a father in law that sees my wife as a trueborn daughter, that I know that this is not goodbye. And U2 will always remain my band with Kite forever being my solace.
And here I am in a total state. I was later leaving work today and Dad was in pain, tired, and totally drugged up to the point that I only got a couple of minutes seeing him. I hate this. Again, Kite is my song. It forces out the tears I need to shed. I want his pain to be over.
The angels came last night. I had a short visit after work and my dad was sleeping and peaceful. The call came just after ten and it was only a short drive to reach him, but even so we were too late and my dad was gone. You can do your best but it's such a small window as to whether you're there to hold them and the end or not. I spent the first critical night by my dads side, holding his hand and talking to him. Real life takes over and you have to get on with it and hope you can be there at the end. It didn't happen but I can't beat myself up over it. He was asleep and peaceful, and we'll always remember the good, great man my daddy was. I'll see you again. I wonder what's gonna happen to you.
Brian Hendrie hello my friend, three years ago I stayed beside my father's hospital bed till 2 am when he gave is last breath. I was helding his hand and he expired. It was hard to me, very hard, but life is something beautiful and sometimes very difficult to understand. Stay safe and take care, you are not alone.
Don't think you can sing along with this version without getting a lump in your throat. ... brilliant version..... well done Paul Hewson for holding yourself together to something that would buckle most to sing
Wow - This song is really powerful. Bono lyrics are always, always amazing...... he's right there with Dylan, Springsteen..... Whatever your opinion of U2 is - one thing you have to admit Bono and this band has got heart and soul! And Bono especially walks it like he talks it! Nuff respect
Amazing, powerful, heartache. This hit home when it was new and I lost my fiance. My father just passed and it still comforts me. This version is so tender and !loving. One Tree Hill is another I've always loved. The lyrics blow my mind. How deeply personal, it was written for a friend's eulogy. I heard it was done in one take.
This song was stuck in my head at my graduation and the whole day in my head i was saying i hope this is not goodbye! it still makes me sad but i love this song!!!!!

It's great that this song has so many interpretations. I honestly thought one of the band members wrote it about their kids going off to college or just moving out of the house. Or just a parent in general letting their child go off on their own for the first time.
Usually I hate live performances of songs since I've heard the perfectly rehearsed and editted studio version so many times. but with this song I LOVE this version. So much emotion, just awesome
los recuerdos más profundos de mi madre me brotan sobre mi mente. ella falleció hace 2 años. y siempre le cantaba a ella está canción si algún día no la tuviese.
one of their best songs in the 2000's. In concert, it's big. In fact they once played it as the final song in one of their concerts, a prominent placement. Dave Mathews plays "Ants Marching" last, for example. It's about parents and kids drifting apart, in particular.

His voice was so out this concert but still a great moment. The Slane Concert (U2 Go Home) version was 1 week after his father's funeral, also very moving. Bono says "Talk to each other" at the end ot it. The Italian quote is what Bono said introducing the song at a Grammy performance
Melhor Banda do mundo U2 me deixa feliz todos os dias q eu ouço as musicas dele Fico ate sem palavras para essa banda Maravilhosa q é o U2 Best Band of World U2 I love you!

Exactly! You took the words from my mouth... I am man, I not a child!
Love everything about this song but yes, that is an amazing verse and his delivery makes me cry everytime
Ishanu Dhar , the Edge's guitar is right in spot, only him could come out with that riff, gloriously legendary.

Ouvir esta música divina, em um lugar emblemático é inesquecível!
Masterful performance by Paul...that smile at the end gave him away, he knew he nailed that song!
one of my most favorite songs ❤ so sad though 😢
His voice was so out this concert but still a great moment. The Slane Concert (U2 Go Home) version was 1 week after his father's funeral, also very moving. Bono says "Talk to each other" at the end ot it. The Italian quote is what Bono said introducing the song at a Grammy performance
I never heard this song before - now I have tars in my eyes and goosepimpels - I loooovvveeee it!!
A definite candidate for my fave U2 song.
Or my favourite song, overall...
by far one of the best bands above many rock bands every where, that's a fact no if and or butts......who can top them....
Always loved this so expressive & soulful, beautiful lyrics, but I love the feeling these guys gove the lyrics
