The auto needle threader can be awkward if you have big hands like me, but it is easy when you get used to it. I love this model 4423 and have repaired and made loads of bits and pieces including a full sized quilt for my wife, and taken the waist in on five pairs of my jeans etc.

Have you used it to sew leather? Does it perform well?

Thank GOD you showed how to thread the needle, it would've taken me a frustrating long time to do it while reading the directions and not seeing it visually. Seems like an unnecessary feature but after trying it I'll see if I love it too like others - or will just thread it by hand which is definitely easy! Thanks for the video!

I have a 44s and like it so far. Easy to maintain. The most important part of a really good machine is one with a servo motor that can run very slowly yet have enough torque to punch thick materials. The 44s is a cheap machine but is reasonably good.

I bought this machine just over a year ago and I finally unboxed it yesterday as I needed to take the hem up on a dress I bought. First off I noticed once I had thread the machine as well as the bobbin and pulled the bobbin thread through, the bobbin tension is tighter than I expected. The instructions say it's preset and no adjustment required 🤷🏻‍♀️ After marking up and then cutting the hem to where i wanted it, I did a test run on the scrap material which is a polyester slippery blend with elastene. First up I noticed thats its pretty useless for doing a type of zigzag overlock stitch even after trying all the differnt tension, length and needle positions, as it bunched up too much and kept slipping under the presser foot. In the end I decided to do a standard straight stitch on the hem and that was a nightmare as the material still kept slipping under the presser foot and it was all crooked. I got fed up with it, unpicked it all as best I could and ended up hand stitching the hem. Not sure in hindsight if the needle itself was the wrong needle to use for this slippery polyester material, but sure wont be doing that again anytime soon. Have yet to try on different fabrics as I want to do some small quilting projects, but its made me think twice about this machine going forward. Im now researching other machines that can handle different types of fabric.

For the price I think it's a good deal. I was surprised by how light it is. It seems like they skimped on the areas they could without affecting its functionality. I have a Singer from the 30's that I could have repaired for a little less, but it only does the one stitch. I did read that those old ones are better at making a straight stitch, and the way they are made it looks like it could really punch through bone.

Saw this model in a sewing machine comparison video, and hearing the almost fully automatic buttonhole had me like 👁️👁️, that would be convenient for me.

Was that a metal bobbin that you used?

I got one for free and it is a piece of junk. I played with the tension at the top and everything went to crap. I have the manual which states it is already pre-set, but does not say how to pre-set it back.

This happens to my mum on her industrial brother she puts it down to poor quality thread. When she changes thread it normally resolves..

      Check bobbin case
to see if any burrs nicks.
      If any, gently file down,
      a build up of
      finger nail polish
      can smooth out.
      Thread to thick
      for needle eye.
      ?
      🤺💐

It's an electric machine, and the metal outer body isn't safe. Hence the plastic body with a metal inner frame.

Hubby bought me this machine the 1st week of lockdown so I could avoid boredom. I managed to make 2 pillowcases and 1 outfit, then it just locked and wouldn't work. It's been collecting dust ever since 👎
I wish we wouldn't have thrown out my old cheap brother that served me well.

The machine just needs some attention to find where it is locked, they are pretty hardy machines and easy to work. Wish I had it to fix, love all that.

I have juki 8100e. Stay away from clutch motor. I lack the zig zag. This why I'm snooping around. O and overlock works like the bomb.

Put mat or towel on the floor 🤔. This will help keep presser foot stable or else your leg will be 2m long at the end of the day.
