  • This is a very quick look alomh Clogher main street. All manner of heavy vehicles transporting good and foodstuff trundle up an down this main artery that links Enniskillen and the west to Belfast. Where trains once provided the heavy lifting we have articulated lorries by the dozen. Mind how you go crossing the road!

I didn't really show in the video the fleets of lorries driving though this wee village Kathleen. It's like a scene out of the old Convoy film! Crossing the road is interesting!

Tom McClean Positive Belfast, Interesting here too. See one thurties* overhead, heavy equipment headed northwest on trains. When Texas men get quiet it’s a
      sign.

That's a good looking little hardware store. Speaking of the hardware store, I have a week off from it! Looking forward to getting some of our own things taken care of around here while it is still warm and we have a decent amount of daylight.

Hi Greg, There are very very few of these family run hardware/DIY shops left now. They got handed down from father to son and then to son etc There inevitably comes a time when there is no son to take over and work the long hours etc then the stores die. Also big stores like B&Q here have taken a lot of their custom. The internet has killed them off too. Out here in the west, away from all the larger towns, they can survive for a few more years. They are like Aladdins Cave inside. Packed to the rafters with all sorts. Wow! A week off! Great stuff! Hey take it easy. Pace yourself! Our weather is autumnal a lot of leaves browning and falling already. We got away for a wee mid weekbreak an hours drive from home. A different slow paced world here in Co Tyrone.

@@TomMcClean I can't blame anyone who doesn't want to own a hardware store. People don't realize what it takes to own and run one; what goes on behind the scenes. Thankfully, I'm just part of running it. Owning it too??? It would do me under. In talks with the owner and through working there, I've come to know and appreciate what it takes to make that type of a store work and be profitable. Not my cup of tea. I like getting off work and being done with it until I go back.
I'm glad you were able to get out a bit. It's always nice to go somewhere and see new things. Unfortunately, I don't have more of that planned for this "vacation". I have much unfinished business from things not done around the house over the summer. It was too hot, too humid, and my leg hurt. It still does, but at some point you just have to carry on. So, I've got quite a list. I started it off well though. I slept the better part of the day. Not sure if I accidentally took a sleeping pill in the morning or if I was just deeply, and truly tired. Either way, I slept the day away, then did some errands and some light duty work. The real work begins tomorrow with carpet cleaning!

Oh I'm with you on this Greg! It is a mammoth undertaking. Keeping on top of stock going in and out is just one thing! Aaaaaaah!
We try to get away for a few days every 3 monhs of so. Life can be pretty hectic and a wee mid week break is great to look forward to where you see and meet new places and things and get a bit of me time/rest together. I can fully understand your situation. ' It was too hot, too humid, and my leg hurt.' You obviously really needed that sleep to recharge. The body knows what it is doing. lol

Wow Tom that's one busy busy road and no sighn of any pedestrian crossings, lot's of regrets today the way we got rid of the railways so short sighted.

Hi chris it was mental trying to cross the road Chris! The big artics nearly pulled you into it. They flew by past your nose! There were a few crossings about but they were well spaced out.

It is guite worrying Tom and the mentality of local councils on this subject of road safety is bewildering.
We have a situation here on Cliff lane going right past our house from the village centre up to the junction of Green lane were we live the speed limit is 30 mph,
From our junction the limit goes up to is 60 mph the road is so narrow that when a tractor or large HGV appears they have to go up on the bank to stop and let approaching vehicles pass, we have been campaigning in the village for a 20 mph limit on this stretch of road up to the cliff's for year's and the council's response is WE WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT UNTIL THERE IS A FATAL ACCIDENT and this is after over time several people have come into contact with passing vehicles.UNBELIEVABLE.

'WE WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT UNTIL THERE IS A FATAL ACCIDENT' I had a police firend and this is exactly what he told me. It's all about money Chris. Money talks and if there has been no deaths they see no requirment to take any measures. That is plain daft allowing 60mph on a narrow road. People have erected dummy speed cameras in their front gardens to try and make some difference.

    Good morning Tom
Not an easy job crossing the street in Clougher! You have to be careful for sure

    • @TomMcClean

Absolutely RLVFR. The government stupidly took away our most of our railways in the 60s. Freight immediately transfered to rural roads that weren't fit to carry big articulated lorries. Road crossing is hazardous.
