Thank you for the shout out!!! Wow, this video is AWESOME!!!!! We agree with 99% of everything! We don’t miss a window in the bathroom because we didn’t have one in our other trailer, either. And we’re really fine without Lithium or solar. But we do use a power pack in lieu of them so obviously just the lead acid battery is not enough for boondocking. We are some of those mythical people that can Boondock for three or four nights without having to dump the tanks 😂 however, we definitely don’t shower every night, and we do use the camp bathrooms when they are clean and available. Plus, if we are boondocking we use paper plates, disposable items, or just let the dishes pile up and bring them with us to the next campsite where we have full hook ups. Our factory mattress is absolutely terrible! But our Sol Horizon is about six months older than yours, so the memory foam mattress seems like a great addition! However, we do have the original dinette set up and are immensely happy with it! We use it all the time, I can’t even imagine trying to do that set up that they changed the design to. It’s an absolute fail with redesigning the dinette. This video was amazing! I loved everything that you said and how you showed it. Keep doing great videos!
Thank you so much! And yes you are mythical! But it's okay because I'm going to be able to run some tests soon! We're supposed to be getting our septic done next week! Also, typically when we go boondocking, we are near a river so we can just bathe in the river! I also always tell Johnny he can just pee outside 🤣 I can't wait to eventually try the quickzip sheets! We'll definitely be using your code when we do!
That is a proper RV review. Thank you! Most RV reviews are people looking at them on the dealer lot. Duh! I can do that. Really nice job. Fun edits too
Sorry for the multiple comments, but I’m commenting as I watch. Good video btw. Saving water while brushing teeth … as we learned in backpacking or scouting - One cup of water is all it takes to brush your teeth! Fill your cup with water. Dip your toothbrush in it then put toothpaste on the toothbrush and brush your teeth. When done, spit the toothpaste in the sink (or near the base of a tree-not too close to the camper if you are in bear country). Rinse your mouth with some of the water from the cup. (Your toothbrush is still toothpastey.) Drink some water and spit it into the sink or on the toothpaste at the base of that tree. Swish your toothbrush in the rest of the water to clean it. Then dump the rest of the water in the sink to clear the other toothpaste in the sink (or dump the rest outside) on the toothpaste you spit out, to dissolve it. All done! It might take a little extra water to rinse the sink but not much.
Hi about bedding, we found the easiest for us was a DIY Bed Buddy system. 1-buy 2 XL Xtall sleeping bags (not “mummy” bags of course) and zip them together. Ours are rated 20 degrees so they are very warm. 2-make or buy a cotton sleeping bag liner. Or 2. I made ours by sewing the bottoms of 2 flat sheets together, and 12” up the sides. Pick a size that is 1-2 feet wider than your mattress/bags. 3-for a pretty cover, use a comforter or duvet cover or comforter. You NEVER have to make the bed. You only have to unzip one side of the bags, put the bottom of the liner in the bottom of the sleeping bag and throw the duvet on. Throw or roll the sleeping bag out. It’s super simple and gives lots of layering options. In the summer we sleep on top of the sleeping bags just in the liner and use the duvet cover for a light blanket as the night cools. Our sleeping bags zip together for a 60” queen bed. The comforter and liner being wider than the bags keep us covered when rolling over. Hope this helps!
Re gray and black tanks going off grid… You are doing it right with “military showers”! Two more things… Wash your dishes outside and water a tree after. (Use a table near the outdoor shower hose.) Also, a composting toilet will make your black tank go much further. We use a DYI version of the Luggable Loo, and keep it in the shower. We use wood shavings not kitty litter. Wood shavings are lighter, cheaper and better smelling. That’s how people who go off grid often do it. Hubby didn’t like the idea but at least he gave it a try. He has has decided he prefers the Loo to flushing the tanks and only uses the Loo. We will stop at a koa overnight sometimes with full hookups and dump before we leave.
Yes, I've considered the composting toilet option! We've been figuring things out with each trip, for sure! And yes, we wash our dishes outside whenever that is the best bet!
I’ve been looking to downsize from a class A so was considering this model. Super helpful video. Love your honesty as it’s important. Thinking twice now…the bed issues are real, the shelves and ports, as well as the size of the tanks. Thank you!
Yes, there are definitely some issues (as there will be with any rig)! But they aren't bad enough for us to want to get rid of it (at least not right now!) We did finally get the QuickZip sheets and that is a game changer for making the bed! So that is one less thing to stress over. I do have a video review coming on that this week! If you aren't a fan of the orientation of the bed, but you like the design and features of the Horizon, I'd recommend looking at the Terra Oasis! That thing is a beauty! And if we went bigger, that is definitely one that I would consider. I don't know how small you're looking to go, but if you are wanting to stay under 20ft, I definitely think that this model has one of the best layouts! Some others to consider are Ember RV and Grand Design. They both have some nice looking rigs that have peaked my interest! I'm happy that my review helped you. And I appreciate you for taking the time to watch!
@@WeekendWandering I’m trying to keep it under 5000 lbs because we have a 2021 Palisade. Really don’t want to trade it in as it’s rather new and I love it. However, having said that I love the Oasis! If I could tow it it would be a done deal 🤗 Looking forward to seeing your next video too. Intech should listen to your design ideas. They are spot on. Happy the sheets worked out. I will definitely consider. Have a great week!
Hi thank you so much for your review as you said it is truly helpful to hear after somebody’s had time to run through every thing. We are receiving our Horizon Rover on June 3 but I cannot believe the number of great upgrade ideas you already gave us in just one video I mean that in a good way 😃 please keep up the good and honest videos and maybe we’ll see you on the trail someday. Thank you so much!!!! P.S. You also gained a new subscriber👍
Aw congrats on joining the Sol family! And thank you so much for your feedback! It would be great to run into you out there one day! If you ever have any questions or would like to see anything else, feel free to reach out! Thanks again for watching and being here! 😁
Dawn owner here, so of course our camper is a tiny bit different, but the bed is still a PITA to make.....we solved it for ourselves with buying a queen sized sleeping bag. We sleep on air mattresses, so I just push them up and fold the bag on top of it. I had bedding and when we pulled apart on a rainy day, we looked like were homeless with everything piled up at the big window. That became a very hard no for me, so changes were made. The tanks ARE small and beyond buying a relief tank was how we solved it. When at campgrounds, we use the bathroom they have normally except at night. I also just bought a small covered trashcan to put paper waste. That will allow a lot more ease in dumping. Unfortunately, the water hold isn't going to allow for a lot of water, no matter what. You aren't the only one who isn't big on cutting. I catch a lot of crap on the one InTech group I belong to because I don't like nailing stuff. My problem is I want things to look like they belong. We have done several mods, but about to make a big one where our microwave is, probably this weekend and we are going to put a shelf in to pull our air fryer/convection/microwave out. We will also be putting the lagun table in, but we are presently waiting for a custom table top to come in from England. The InTech is timeless, sort of like an Airstream or a Scamp. In 10 years with good care, it will look the same and you won't have to worry if you go west and there are age restrictions. I believe it's a great unit....I just wish we could have found an Eclipse when we were getting ours.
I feel you! I wish the Dusk would've been an option. Those twin beds would be great. I'm always interested and looking at other rigs, but it would have to take something really special to get me to switch from intech! No camper will ever be 100% perfect, but Intech definitely comes pretty close for me! Making the bed is much easier with quickzip sheets. I am so happy we bought one. We only bought the fitted sheet and then I use random bedding for the rest. Fighting with the corners is no longer an issue! Seems like you guys have figured out a good system though!
Thanks for being REAL!!! WE are torn between a few trailers, but leaning towards the Horizon. Your review helps a TON! FYI - I'm getting the Lagun table mount :)
shower fewer times. sponge off or baby wipe on in-between days. put used TP in a closable trash bin or do the water rinse manual bidet as is done in much older countries where the plumbing is iffy. I know thats revolting to americans used to constructing a catcher's mitt out of TP - but like my grammy said "poop washes off". Ive done that when traveling in turkey and morocco. Its not a big deal. also if you are in a place that permits it, collect grey water and dump it in the bushes (derp - you mentioned that). wash dishes in a plastic bin (biodegradable/camp safe soap) same for that third day shower. Do it over a bin or a bucket - especially when rinsing hair - thats a lot of water. Catching even a little bit helps. One of the biggest cons of this trailer is that combined tank. and you note that the dual tanks is probably not possible given the size and the weight thing. Thats because they cheaped out on the axle rating, (I believe) I like the arrangement of the windows - but I also hate the windows themselves. They seem to be single pane - the insulation in this unit needs all the help it can get. and none of them open up enough. Sure the bay window isnt really an option - but the european double pane windows that Nucamp and Lance both use open WIDE and its awesome. The Ember has even worse windows. The solar Intech offers is pretty low budget for what they charge. You can do better for the same money aftermarket. I like the intech. I *really* like the new OVR. that one checks an awful lot of boxes for me. So how long did it take for the VOCs to finish offgassing? (the smell of the interior) Thanks for the comprehensive review. I would like to know about any problems you have encountered. In my examination of many trailers in this class I tend to find a lot of really shoddy assembly. I dont expect trouble-free - but I do believe that if you are going to crimp the wires you should get *all* the wire strands in the crimp. Plumbing should be secured against abrasion and fatigue failure..."Little things" like that.
I believe you hit the nail on the head and I agree with everything you said! I'd love to see European windows in this unit! Whenever we do decide to get a new unit, it'll hopefully have better windows. But the windows aren't a deal breaker for me! We are definitely constantly finding ways to do things better when it comes to water usage. One of our last trips, we rinsed off dishes with the outdoor shower. We have started collecting TP in a bin like you mentioned... that makes a huge difference. We have a bidet at home and I LOVE IT! I'd love to do something similar in the camper and we probably will do that eventually! You're right, they definitely cheaper out on the axle, I wish it was a beefier axle, but I'll take what I can get! I'd love to see a dual axle, but then I probably wouldn't be able to haul it with my car and I don't plan on upgrading my car anytime soon! I can't remember how long the offgassing took... maybe several weeks? I received my camper in March so luckily we were heading into ideal weather here in Georgia so I was able to leave it sitting with the windows open and the fans going constantly as long as the weather permitted (again, Euro windows would make that even better since rain doesn't matter with those!) So we were able to even go camping leaving the windows open the whole time to help with the smell. That smell is obviously completely gone now! I don't know what we'll do with Solar if we even upgrade anything at all. It's hard for me to spend that much money not knowing how long I plan to keep something. I have no plans to get rid of the Sol anytime soon, but I change my mind constantly! So we'll see what happens with that! Maybe we will upgrade the system and maybe we won't! And to answer your last question, I haven't had any major issues so far. The biggest annoyance I've had is they did not seal the back window well with the weather stripping. I've had zero leaks, but ants were able to get into the window and make it a home. I think I have managed to get rid of them, but it seems like they cut corners on that one thing. Instead of using one continuous piece of that stripping (like they did on all the other windows, they cut it in 4 different spots) - so we will fix that ourselves. Other than that, I'm still VERY pleased with my purchase and will continue to sing Intech's praises! I think they are doing a great job overall! I'm sure I will eventually have some sort of issue, but 18 months in and I'm still so in love with the Horizon! Thank you so much for watching!!
Great review. If you didn't have the outdoor cooking set up would the stock fridge be adequate? That's one thing that struck me as lacking. I'm assuming that space can just be outdoor deep storage.
Hey, thanks! So we have actually removed the outdoor kitchen since this video, and we now use that space for extra storage. We now just take a camping stove as far as cooking outside, and we much prefer that because it's not as messy! We still use the outdoor fridge, though. We really need the extra space for drinks and sometimes whatever food won't fit in the inside fridge if we are cooking for elaborate meals. If I'm camping by myself, I don't use it, but if my husband is there or anyone else, the extra fridge is being used. A cooler would work just fine, though!
Good video, for the most part. Suggestion: since you made notes ahead of time, rather than stammering trying to remember numbers, specs, etc, write those down. About the toilet…how long do you stay in there??! Do you really need a window?? I’ve glanced at the Horizon, and didn’t realize there is only one waste tank…that’s a bummer. One last thing: remember that adding solar panels will subtract from your “officially” available cargo weight.
Oh buddy, trust me, I wish I could stay on track... that is not a strength of mine. 😂 I don't really NEED a window in the bathroom, I just like windows haha! There is only one waste tank and it is a bummer with how small it is, but it's a small camper. Some have changed out the toilet for a compost toilet and just use the tank as a grey tank. And you're right about that. My plans have changed since making this video. We'll eventually just use a portable power station and portable panels rather than adding a fixed setup to the Horizon! Thanks for your feedback. Whenever I get around to making another video, I'll try to stay on track 😉
Hi from the Sol Group! I agree about the bed commentary and you're right, the outlets should probably be above the shelves and the shelves should be raised up slightly, or maybe even be a fold-away/detachable design for making the bed. I swapped our bedside USB charger for a 12v marine outlet in a gang box so now I have two outlet boxes to bang my knuckles on when I make the bed (haha). It honestly would be a dream come true if the entire bed platform was on struts like a Murphy bed to get at the plumbing, too, or if they adopted the Nautilus system so all of the winterization and drain valves were accessible from outside, but I'm sure packaging and cost restraints are a factor. I wonder if they sell a foldable residential queen size mattress that fold lengthwise to make it easier?
Hello Sol-Mate! I do know that you can get a folding mattress on Amazon! I bought one for my last camper and actually had this thought just the other day for this one! I'm probably going to try to figure out the mod that Shawn did with the remote control lift under the bed... it seems like a great solution! Or maybe one day we'll switch the mattress for a folding one! I overall still think the Horizon is a great design... but there could be some improvements! Thanks so much for watching!
Very helpful. Since I'm not on Facebook (yes, there are a few of us), can you post a link to Justin's under-dinette-seat drawer modification? I'd love to see how he did it.
Hi Andrew! Thanks for watching! And I understand... I wouldn't keep my facebook if I didn't find some value in certain groups! I would love to send you a link, but since it is a private group, you won't be able to see anything from his post. If you want to shoot me an email, I can send you pictures of what he did at some point this evening! wkndwandering@gmail.com
We always ...if at a govt site...use the shower there...and #2 at the govt house as well.Im overweight so I need the exercise. But in Arkansas one needs a flashlight when walking to the bathhouse....Black bears may follow one.And a lot of copperheads too. But,wildlife is wonderful.
I agree! I love wildlife! And yes... if I can make it to the campground bathroom for #2, then I will! But at night, I'll just use mine! No TP in the tank has made a HUGE difference though so far! Thanks so much for watching! 😊
Disappointed that I am unable to view your video without closed captions. I am Deaf. We own an InTechRV Sol Horizon Rover, and it is a marvelous travel trailer. If I have another opportunity to purchase another travel trailer, I would choose it again. By the way, approximately 90% of UA-cam videos are already accessible with closed captions. Thank you.
I didn't realize that there weren't closed captions automatically added. I'm fairly new to UA-cam, so when I have some time today, I'll try to figure out how to add them! I apologize for the inconvenience.
Okay I just figured out how to do it. Thanks for letting me know... I had NO CLUE that closed captions weren't automatically added! So it is going to take a while, but there will eventually be captions added to this video. I'm hoping by the end of the day I'll be able to go through it all. I'll then be sure to go through each video and add them.
Get a bigger rig, lol. You're mentioning all of the gives to the small rig take. The axle weight rating is just that. The axle. You still have tongue weight rating to add to that. The gvwr is over 4k lbs.
The dry weight of the Horizon is 3375lbs (at least for mine according to my spec sheet with the options I chose) the axle is rated for 4000lbs so I have 625lbs of capacity that I can safely add to the camper for traveling. That includes fresh water, propane, and any other content that I throw inside. The tongue weight is what your tow vehicle is carrying and has to be considered when lookingat the cargo capacity of your vehicle. It isn't a separate number that is added to the listed weight of the camper. My SUV at the time of this video handled this rig fine. It had the towing capacity for it, but I have since upgraded to a bigger rig and do notice a difference in towing... especially on longer hauls.
Oh that bed storage is ridiculous!😢 that needs to be easier. Why on earth do you put a drawer where it's not accessible? I'm giving these a longer look.👎🤔🤔🤔
It's definitely an inconvenience, I plan to do the work-around with the remote control lift. We noticed a water pump problem last week and it was a nightmare working on it, but we'll get it figured out! No trailer is 100% perfect, but it's definitely something to consider!
Theres a guy on you tube that shows his brand new ember on its first trip all the dometic appliances failed, most of the switches too. Im not a fan anymore. And they are butt ugly inside.🤷♀️☹
I like the inside of the Ember, personally, but I have been hearing of the issues. I'm sure they'll eventually get their kinks worked out since they are a newer company, but it's sad for the people who bought the rigs that are having issues!
They are! It helps taking showers at campground showers... and if we don't do that, as long as we are mindful with our water usage, we can make it through a weekend with using the toilet, washing some dishes and each of us gets a shower both nights. But you're so right! I still love it though! I really love it when we can stay somewhere with full hookups! 😉
Just now seeing this comment! Plenty of people have switched out the step. We haven't had a need to switch them out yet, but we probably will eventually!
Not enough b-roll of the camper. Mostly shots of her. This is a great review if you know what it looks like but what to understand The experience. If you look at it through that lens, this is honestly a really solid 1yr review.
Her being high maintenance would be refusing to make the bed and making her husband do it 100% of the time. I can tell you don’t even do the bare minimum in your relationships, if you think her not liking to make the bed but still doing so is being high maintenance. 🤨 you lack all sense of self-awareness 😂

So how long did it take for the VOCs to finish offgassing? (the smell of the interior)
Thanks for the comprehensive review.
I wish these small campers came stock with composting toilet options.
That would be a great option!
I don't really NEED a window in the bathroom, I just like windows haha!
Omg! Love that drawer mod!😮 that guys talented!❤
We have those quick zip sheets and love them. Great review!
Thank you for watching it! Yes, I'm itching for those QuickZip Sheets for sure! They look like the perfect fit for a camper with a bed like this!
Love the moon shade!❤
Love this video, I’m looking at the Little Guy Max as well and I think there are some similarities. Thanks for covering this camper in depth!
Thanks for watching! Yeah the Little Guy Max looks like a great trailer too! There are so many great options out here!
how big is the grey/ black tank ? How big is the fresh water tank
@tumbleweedbandit fresh water is 28 gallons and the combo tank is 32 gallons!
Your camper is so so cute!!!
Thank you! I do love it!!
This would be an ideal setup for a composting toilet. Then the holding tank would just be for grey water.
Totally agree! I think someone has done it and I actually wish I would've thought about that before using the tank as a combo!
@@WeekendWandering If InTech offered that as an option, I'd definitely consider it. I'd also go with their lithium and solar package.
@@bryanmills2295 That definitely sounds like a dream setup!!
Nice review of your caravan. Looks a great design.
Yes, I do have to say that I'm a big fan of how they've designed it! Thanks so much for watching!!
I've seen people demo lagun table brackets and I have to have one.😂❤❤❤❤
Very helpful. Since I'm not on Facebook (yes, there are a few of us), can you post a link to Justin's under-dinette-seat drawer modification? I'd love to see how he did it.
Hi Andrew! Thanks for watching! And I understand... I wouldn't keep my facebook if I didn't find some value in certain groups! I would love to send you a link, but since it is a private group, you won't be able to see anything from his post. If you want to shoot me an email, I can send you pictures of what he did at some point this evening! wkndwandering@gmail.com
The dining to bed is really not bad, in my opinion.
It's just not as easy as it used to be! But it certainly isn't keeping me from making it into a bed! I'm sure they changed it for a reason 🤷♀️
Good review, just need to lower or mute the music at a certain point.
Totally agree! Thanks for the feedback!
I've thought those shelves could be a problem.🤔😢
We have the same issues that you have but also love ours too!
YES! Such a great little camper! Thanks so much for watching!
You should’ve got the model with twin beds
@im_not_mad if it would've been an option when I was looking, I absolutely would have done that! The Dusk is a great model!
#1 complaint is making the bed. Will pay $40k for a camper but not $100 for zippered sheets to alleviate your issue. 😯
Finally bought the zippered sheet actually!
It’s called budgeting and self control.
enjoyed the review!
Thank you so much!! It was fun to put together!
The holding tanks are small on this model ☹️
Safer steps are a big deal. I'm not happy with what I'm hearing. This has dropped from the #1 spot to 10th.☹
Just now seeing this comment! Plenty of people have switched out the step. We haven't had a need to switch them out yet, but we probably will eventually!
Wow yeah that cushion/ table situation is unreasonable too.😢👎🤔🤔🤔
Totally agree, I deal with the cushion because I have to. I wish it was the old design, but it is what it is! 🤷♀️
You must need a better mic. I can bearly hear you.
Oh I'm sorry! I'm just using the camera mic, but the volume levels sound fine on my end when I listen to it. I'm sorry you aren't able to hear it!
I have one word to describe this review.
PAINFUL.
Not enough b-roll of the camper. Mostly shots of her. This is a great review if you know what it looks like but what to understand The experience. If you look at it through that lens, this is honestly a really solid 1yr review.
I didnt like the dinnette post set up either. ☹
Yeah, it's awful! And idk how I'm just now seeing these comments! Sometimes I get notifications, but sometimes I guess I don't!
Another video shows couch potato she uses a zipper sheet or mattress cover
Yes! We finally got some and plan on doing a quick review soon! Thanks for watching!
🤦♀️
You can just tell this woman is high maintenance.
🤣 Nope, I'm pretty laid back, actually.
Her being high maintenance would be refusing to make the bed and making her husband do it 100% of the time. I can tell you don’t even do the bare minimum in your relationships, if you think her not liking to make the bed but still doing so is being high maintenance. 🤨 you lack all sense of self-awareness 😂
Not even close. Apparently you’re no judge of women.
Not many women are NOT, but she seems cool.
You should just stay home
