This government is a big joke. Wafula this houses should be given to people who are taxed for free until they retire. And then the house allowance be scraped off, some will be kept to renovate once they retire or when one passes away God forbid, maybe receive some compensation. Some regulations and policies should documented on how to deal with houses. In short it's not affordable at all. It's just scam. Uko kwa shamba ya serikali utakimbizwa man!

Esther Passaris didn’t lose the debate! She understands the numbers better than most who are barking how informed they are. Because money doesn’t work like you have explained. Not to mention the overwhelming housing mess (“overgrown” slums) for the urban masses at the bottom of the pile. No country should look like we do!
1. The housing levy is a revolving fund to be used to keep the construction of AHs and social houses affordable and sustainable. The total funds involved for the number of houses started so far is not equivalent to the levy collected so far. The levy is just a take off fund to attract investors all over the country even in areas where they wouldn’t invest because they wouldn’t have a quick turnaround to their capital, while the monthly trickle rents they would fetch allows a guy who would otherwise live in an undignified shack, to live in a decent accommodation, as if he could afford the 3m-6.5m price tag in cash that his fellow private buyer can!
2. When comparing the private houses with the affordable houses the way you did, AGAIN, you miss a big mark on the time value of money. The private developer is asking for cash money today, while the government will charge kidogo rent to the potential home owners over many years to come, forgoing the inflation, lumpsum cash upfront and money cost.
If for argument sake a citizen who rents an affordable housing for 10 years or more to own it, pays x amount of rent each month, after 10 years+, they still pay 3.2m total for the cheapest house, no more no less. The guy who bought his apartment from a private landlord, one, they have to have the entire 3.9m today in cash and if they don’t and have to take a loan, in 10 years they would have paid double or triple or even quadruple what the cash buyer is paying today. The AH guy will not have to worry about this, hence why it is affordable‼️
Let’s always try to go an inch deeper to analyse anything rather than join the fashionable, trendy social media talking points, as if all of us do not have brains and have to chorus anything going round to look politically engaged.

Point of correction: Nrb women rep quoted 'per month rent' to own prices NOT selling prices..and you can clearly see the decimal point and the zeroes after it are two (it is not a comma); therefore a 1 bed is 3,200sh, 2bed 4,800 & 3 bed 6,400.
David you need to do independent research of the houses affordable from NHFC because one of my friends bought the three bedrooms for 3.5million .

Dave, I don’t think the government is building any units themselves. They’re only facilitating private developers, buying the completed units and then turning around and offering them on low interest mortgages on a rent to own model. Remember that story about Raila's companies being involved in building affordable housing? Judging by those low prices, I wouldn’t be surprised if that Sabaki project is part of that scheme. It’s clear there’s a profit motive, but it’s interesting that the houses have appreciated that much, prices have tripled in just 2 years, the 1 room used to be 800k now its 3.2m?

Remeber, the Gvnt project is a Rent to own, which can take up to 20years to clear. But that private developer, the maximum they give you is 2years, and this is before they finish and hand over. So Passari is right. That is my opinion.
