Well, first thing, you DID NOT LOOSE everything you've worked for all of your life. You will come back stronger and be a better dancer. I think settling down with a company is a good thing. I think being in the USA is also a good thing. I think being on the same continent as your family will feel good and be healthy for you. Be well.
I completely agree. 2020 will look very different - and so much better - for Joy. Having set backs in ballet, can definitely make you come back stronger and better. It will happen. So happy for you Joy, you do actually look better, and your future is bright.
You amaze me and I have been so inspired by your life! So many, including me were praying for you and continue to pray for you! You are amazing and loved by God, your family, your audiences, and us your loyal watchers and listeners! Sometimes we come to end of ourself so we can be birthed anew- much like the story of the Phoenix! Isaiah 61- out of ashes is newness of life! May God continue to bless you and keep you and watch over you and those you love, in every way!
Omg some of the comments here... Joy doesn't owe it to anyone to share what she doesn't want to. Just because she shares a part of her life with us doesn't mean she is obligated to share everything. It isn't her responsibility to open a channel of conversation on any topic. PS the recipe and exercise videos sound really exciting.
Yes! I agree entirely. The only thing that matters is you’re on the mend Joy and that’s brilliant news! Thank you for sharing it. You’ve shown such tenacity and strength through your career so far that no matter if there is an occasional step to the side for injury or growth, you’ll always be heading in an interesting and exciting direction. Good on you for putting your health first and taking the time for you. Looking forward to having you back!
Joy! Can't believe you are now in Boston, I just moved to the area and I am so so excited to finally be able to see you perform. I really can't believe it, God works in such mysterious ways. I hope to meet you one day! Praying for your healing x
As a former professional ballet dancer myself and a recovered anorexic; I think it is important to be transparent with your audience about the harsh reality of how prevalent eating disorders are in the ballet world. It is how mine started. So many suffer from them in the ballet world and now is your chance to discuss it and how to choose the path of self love and recovery. I wish more were open about it the topics.
I know this comment is old but it certainly depends on where she is in recovery. While talking about her eating disorder in public would be a nice spotlight considering how prevalent eating disorders are in ballet, for a multitude of reasons, the simplest being discomfort with talking about the problem publicly (as opposed to a few close friends and family/counselors, ect) she does not HAVE to. And I know the comment above was meant kindly, and obviously with understanding about the condition. To get personal, I don't tend to advertise my own experiences on the internet but sparingly, and for a variety of reasons, would not want to become the poster woman ambassador for some sort of health campaign around the condition. Although finding and talking to other recovered and recovering anorexics is helpful, the public pressure to do all these events for publicity and otherwise can pretty lead to a relapse. Ironically, a girl who was relatively well known (in my area, not world wide) suffered one, combined with a multitude of factors at home that unfortunately did not end well for her at all. With years of coping skills and setting healthy limits for herself, maybe it's an avenue of public advocacy that she could pursue. But otherwise, talking in other dance studios, or perhaps talking/becoming some sort of certified health professional to deal with the topic would be worth it. It's not that I thing the issue is not important, it's just that from what I have seen, for some smaller audiences with less public pressure (in this one aspect of their lives) is where the limit lies when it comes to talking about these things safely.
Thank God your medical issues were identified and addressed! You are so Brave and are a Superbly Talented Dancer - Artist and I know you are going to be rewarded in the coming year! Sending Love and Hugs from Texas!
Joy, if you are in recovery from an eating disorder, you have an amazing opportunity to open a discussion and give hope and insight to a lot of dancers who are suffering. There’s no shame in having an eating disorder. Of course it’s up to you since it is your journey and it’s a very personal thing. Your fans are here for you!
Aww joy!! I’ve followed you for years, I’m so proud of you. I can just imagine how tough these past few months have been please know they’re is so much love for you from all of us. You’re strong your capable and powerful. Whatever you need to do to feel your best is worth it. I’m sending you healing vibes brighter days are ahead ❤️
I think it is sooo much harder for Ballerina to get sick or injured because you work so so hard each and everyday to stay in tip top shape and when health/injury unravels all that you have worked so hard to improve and maintain the idea of starting over is exhusting. And often times Ballerinas have to get themselves back into performance shape on their own. Joy, I hope Boston Ballet has your back and is providing a team of people to help you! I have always loved your honesty! And I am sooo grateful you are on the mend. Thank you for sharing and just know this fan is praying for your health and your transition.
Joy, I'm so glad you are on the mend and taking your health as a priority. Any content is appreciated, maybe even some hair/makeup tutorials, stories about some of your favorite performances, and strengthening videos. All the best to you on your new chapter. 💖
Sending you prayers for peace and healing, thank you so much for sharing, it's always. Inspirational. Yes, if it works for your schedule, keep up the cooking and workout vids, but don't take time away from ret and recovery and taking care of you. Love you so much, I'm checking out the pod cast now!
Glad to hear things are looking better for you and that you’ve found a good home in Boston Ballet. They’re so lucky to have someone as talented and lovely as you! Hope everything gets better soon and can’t wait to see more of your dancing. ❤️❤️
Be kind to your body, Joy. Whatever your health scare was, it will take time to heal from, so don’t force your body to work too hard until you’re completely healed. Be well sweetie xxxxxxxx
So glad you are back dancing and sharing your journey. I understand the pressure and anxiety you speak of. It is a daily struggle for me. Focusing on what is right now seems to help me. Sending you love. I know you will be stronger than ever. ❤️
Moving to a new city or country can often be taxing, especially if it happens fast so not all details are planned out. Adding a health scare can make it even worse. Glad you're getting back on your feet! I would love to see you do more videos like Kathryn Morgan for example- maybe some talks on different subjects like diet, confidence, injuries and so on, your current workout/training outside of ballet rehearsals, routines(like performance day routine, day off routine etc), tips for ballet dancers, that type of thing? I would certainly love that.
Dear Joy, I have followed you on and off since I saw the news report about you being in Moscow and have been inspired by your passion and beautiful dancing. I will keep you in my prayers and ask the Lord God to heal you, help you flourish, and do His will--which is always the best!
As a Boston native, I am equally surprised and overjoyed that you’re here! Sending you good vibes and good wishes from within the city! Stay warm, it’s getting snowy here!
It’s so good to see you here Joy! I think a lot of us are wondering exactly what those serious health issues were but I fully sympathize with the fact that when you’re feeling ghastly and scared the last thing on your mind is keeping people “out there” up to date. It was clear that your freelancing all over the world must have been incredibly stressful. I kept wondering how on earth you could cope with all the organizing, travelling, learning, performing... and still push yourself in the gym and out running as well! There didn’t seem to be much recovery time. It looked like complete overload quite frankly, and you were getting painfully thin. But a girl does what she has to do in survival situations, I know. Boston Ballet probably came in the nick of time, whatever the details are (I confess I’m curious to know if the issues were a result of stress, or physical overload, or what!) But hey, it’s good to know that you’re recovering, the podcasts are a great idea, and here’s to a healthy and happy future. You deserve it, heaven knows!
So glad you are getting healthy and getting strong. Hang in there! I've missed your blogs. Yes, please come back to youtube more. Also, I'd love to come see you dance, but I have no way to find out when you are dancing. I've tried to figure this out with Boston Ballet's website, but that's not any help. So, in the future, if you can give us tips on when you are performing, that would be great. I'd be flying up from Virgina. So glad you are doing better.
Boston is a brilliant fit! A wonderful company with diverse rep, world class reputation, and great dancers (I mean Bill Forsythe is a partner there for Pete’s sake!) - you belong there! Take care of yourself Joy, be patient, don’t be afraid to seek help, and know that you have a shining future with that company!
Hola, Joy! I am so, so happy you are back and things start to get better! I can imagine how hard it has been. I am so glad that now you are at a new beginning, so hugely happy for you. Muchos besos, dearest and all, all and more the best!!!
Joy so excited that you are here in Boston. I wish you all the best with your health and recovery. I have tickets to see nutcracker this month. I hope you are cast the day I have tickets. Please maybe do a meet and greet?! If you sell signed pointe shoes I would definitely buy a pair. You are such an inspiration !!
You're an inspiration girl! Keep up the amazing dedicated work. I'm glad to hear from you no matter the breaks you've taken. Be well. Treat yourself. Lots of love from Slovakia 😍
Peace and health! Thank you for the update. I just enjoy listening to your personal experiences and reflections on your life and career. Praying for you 🙏
So happy to hear from you again. I been following your career, anything you want to post I will watch. Please continue to post on you tube☺. Much luck to you!
So much change in a short time! Focus on your health and take it a minute at a time. I hope you get well soon and feel you have the energy to keep pursuing your dreams.
I hope you’re seeing a therapist or a sports psychologist. I don’t think Moscow really ever treated you well - they worked you hard and you were rewarded but an injury or episode happens to every dancer. Kindness to yourself is better than perfection.
Each season, even the tough ones, teach us something valuable. Someone I knew that was going through a dark time said she wasn’t going to waste her pain. She used it to propel herself forward and closer to God’s will for here life. Your season in Russian may come back around -I think you left a part of your heart there. But where you are now is good. The Lord has great things in store for you I’m sure of that. In the mean time, self care!! We are rooting for you and lifting you up in our thoughts, good wishes, and prayers!! ❤️💪🏻
You look much better. Praying for you. There are amazing people in that area who love God, you'll find them and find some peace in Him. Hope you can have some videos to showcase your dancing still.
Congratulations on Boston Ballet! I'm happy for youJoy. I hope to visit the city, some day. I shy away from social media, look I'm a pony! I am certain you will do well in Boston. Perhaps there will be some bits you can share of your life with the company. It would promote performances. Every art needs patrons. I enjoy all of your videos. Bonne Chance in Boston ❤
Honestly, I'm really glad you're back. It seemed like in Russia you were giving everything you had and more, and receiving so little in return, with little kindness and hard treatment. Take care of yourself and don't be so hard on yourself.
Like any professional athlete there is a price to be paid in many areas. What is most important is to have fun and the love for what you are doing. The movie For The Love of the Game speaks directly to what I am saying. FOR THE LOVE TO DANCE is the main food dish. In the athletic world the castle is your body. Every day the enemy is trying to destroy the castle. One must protect the castle. In the end the difficult decision is when do you exit the castle and find another vessel to nurture. That day is perhaps further out. I say good luck that you enjoy life to the fullest. I have full confidence you will have a wonderful fruitful life. John
we all have setbacks, and you have tons going on the life of a dancer is rough, soo much goes into it, the stress, the long hours of body jarring activites longer then even most full time jobs and you carry it with you , the sacrafices to family friends and fun for a life that was chosen and when perfroming has a feeling like no other, but it takes it toll on soo many, as they say the harder you grind the finer the edge of a knife, but in doing so its easier to mess it up, snap the knife or the edge to be lost under all that balancing soo to with life, sometimes you have to shake it off pick up the pieces breath and then start over having learned something and being wiser, and stronger from it. however you have done soo much already no one can take past achievements on earth and heaven will not as the heavens will not go back on itself as God is love, truth, and charity
Hi Joy! Can you film your podcast like Jenna and Julien do? For some reason I don't listen to podcasts unless they're on youtube lol Glad to see your face!
While I think coming out as orthorexic or another of the pitfalls so often a part of a ballet dancers life may be helpful for other people I don't think it may be something you are free to discuss if you have a job in the public eye or it might be bad for your recovery to know people will always be watching you for weightloss signs. So while Joy may want to talk about it, it's possible she can't or shouldn't. Maybe when she is further along in recovery like some ballet dancers who talked about it or when she's retired and a teacher only and she has more freedom with her public image. If it was as simple as a physical injury it would be easy to talk about.
I just want to see you dance. I may not be able dance, but I sure enjoy watching you dance. I was wondering how you stayed so upbeat about your gypsy lifestyle, it looked super stressful. I’m guessing that brought your eating disorder back, but, hey, you seem to be healthy again.
but what happened? I think it would be helpful to hear from your experience for younger dancers and other professionals that need to take care of their bodies and health possibly more than other, not to get personal necessarily just to clear things up
I hoped to find out more details also, however there are many health issues we just don't talk about. One day it will be revealed, allow Joy some privacy. She shares so much with us 😊
i think it was an eating disorder, probably othorexia or anorexia. she used to be deadly thin. i was horrified looking back on her old posts on instagram. :( i could be wrong.
Dear Joy, one very important thing to stay healthy (Body and Soul) is to be honest to yourself and as far as possible to others. You say "you made a happy" face during the time as a freelancer. In one of your last videos you tell us, other dancers around you, that you will forever dance in Russia cause nowehere else, especially in th US, you could get so much possibilities to dance and you would not be anywhere else. I think the most of us had already got that there was just a lot of struggle and the situation was far away from satisfying for you. So why not saying that? Even during the last month, even during your time in Italy, there have been so many people appealing to you pay attention to your health and we all saw there was something very wrong. You say (and wrote it under your posts some weeks ago) that this time or your time of recovery aren´t "instagram worthy". Why?!? Who decides that? Everybody struggles and of course in a perfect instagram world nobody would show that. But why participate? Why not to change and to help other people with that? It´s not necessary to create a "fake" world where there should be just authenticity like in dance and where it is not really believable like in a "cruel" world like the dance world. I don´t say talk in detail about everything - but just as an advice from somebody who learnd: don´t try to just show the highs (or "fake" them), share even the downs during they are happening, not after they led you totally to ground can be such a big, big relelief and sets free power who is sucked out by creating an Image, a perfect world for the others or yourself.
I'm a not a native english-speaker, could anyone tell me why Joy decided to leave Russia and what kind of health disorders she had? Did she had a casting for the job in the Boston Ballett?
She has a huge experience in dancing now, but it is important so she could recover fast. Ballet is one of the hardest works, especially when people are overloading themselves and trying to jump over their heads. Good luck to all ballet dancers!
I have never seen any of your videos, but sadly I was watching the one above and realized that the Pandemic must have rudely interrupted your total plans. I cannot help but feel so sad for you.
Well, first thing, you DID NOT LOOSE everything you've worked for all of your life. You will come back stronger and be a better dancer.

Also the complicity many ballet influencers have in shilling their extreme diets and bizarre medical treatments

however you have done soo much already no one can take past achievements on earth and heaven will not as the heavens will not go back on itself as God is love, truth, and charity
Happy for a new UA-cam video! Welcome back! Big hugs! 🥰
Hi Joy!
Can you film your podcast like Jenna and Julien do? For some reason I don't listen to podcasts unless they're on youtube lol
Glad to see your face!
So happy to see you back! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Hope so much that everything works out well for you! You are an inspiration!
I needed this Joy, and we're here for you. Any breaks you take we will be here watching.
Hold on girl! Suppose to be easy fight! 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Keep strong and healthy and everything will come your way. God bless you girl! Love you lots
You will come back stronger. All the best!
I love to see you back!
Love, peace and health to you!
Yes, please keep up the UA-cam channel! Whatever you want to do would be great. :D
Thank you, Joy. Love to you.
I just want to see you dance. I may not be able dance, but I sure enjoy watching you dance. I was wondering how you stayed so upbeat about your gypsy lifestyle, it looked super stressful. I’m guessing that brought your eating disorder back, but, hey, you seem to be healthy again.
So nice to see you Joy! :)
Hope your health gets back to 100% soon.
but what happened?
Joy! {{{Hugs}}} and more {{{Hugs}}}. I am holding you in prayer. One day at a time. You're still dancing and God is holding you. XOXOXO
I’m proud of you!
Joy said that joining Boston Ballet was her biggest mistake
So excited for you!!! Are you going to be in the up coming nutcracker? I’m going with my family on the 15th

выздоравливай и не болей, а потом возвращайся домой, в Россию)

I'm a not a native english-speaker, could anyone tell me why Joy decided to leave Russia and what kind of health disorders she had? Did she had a casting for the job in the Boston Ballett?
She has a huge experience in dancing now, but it is important so she could recover fast. Ballet is one of the hardest works, especially when people are overloading themselves and trying to jump over their heads. Good luck to all ballet dancers!
I have never seen any of your videos, but sadly I was watching the one above and realized that the Pandemic must have rudely interrupted your total plans. I cannot help but feel so sad for you.
Why do you call america "THE STATES" no hate or anything
People outside of the USA just call it that, and since Joy has lived overseas for so long, that's probably what she's used to.
