@@MrBigspendni think you missed something. The pillow was extra luggage because they packed clothes inside so its dual purpose - makes you sleep vomfy on the plane and gives extra carryon space.
the point is that the pillow doesn't count as a carry on bag, and you don't get charged for them. so as long as you don't put anything in that will get it flagged, it's a great way to bring extra carry on
but it does count as a personal item for united economy, spirit, frontier, and it used to be JetBlue. I think JetBlue changed their personal item policy

I did this when I traveled to Portugal (Feb 2024) and it worked perfectly!!!!!! It was a perfect head rest and was able to fit A LOT of my light weight clothes.
Professional pillow tester here (?, I see no problem, it's practical, double use, and seems soft! Just use some alcohol to disinfect after putting on the tray, and before it touches your face!!!

Certified X-Ray technician here. As far as I can see, there's only clothing in the pillow. There's literally zero threats in the stuff she pulled out, I would've moved those liquids to a separate tray, rescanned both trays and given it a pass. Like, nobody is gonna hijack a plane with a bra thats hidden in your pillow.

Not only do you get extra room for your stuff but it will still work as a pillow. I would just be care about which airline this is on. They also may randomly check you as they do that sometimes and look inside the pillowcase.

I once brought an extra backpack through security but hadn’t paid for it on my airline. So once I was through security I put the backpack on and an over sized hoodie on over myself until I got into my seat. I was so proud. Saved like $50.

Take a back pack its still a carry on. If you can't fit everything vacuum seal your clothes. My mom started doing that when the airlines lost our luggage and we didn't get our stuff until departure day
Doesn’t hold as much as the pillow but I’ve started using a neck pillow to put extra clothes. I have a neck pillow with a zip off washable cover so I just take the cover off and fill it with clothes. Then I can wear it as a neck pillow but get the storage for clothes. Plus when your on the plane you just wear it so you don’t have to worry about airline staff asking you to put it away or anything
I've seen where people do that when they live in van conversions/cars . They store clothes, extra bedding, towels in pillows to save space ! Less storage space needed 😃 For carry-on it's an awesome idea 💡 😎

RIGHT! However, the TSA agents aren't the people who determine if you have to check a bag or not! They just make sure you don't have knives, shanks or other contraband! So you pass right through and get to take your personal carry on items AND your pillow with you! It works!
They can. But other than carry ons, pillows are allowed. Pillows are filled with old cloth stuffing, cotton, polyester or ball fiber(basically all that material could also be clothing material.) So you can replace your pillow's stuffing with your clothing and the airport officials won't mind. As long as it acts and appears as a pillow and only has clothing material in it, the officers won't bother(unless they're uselessly fussy people). But if you would stuff anything else in it, other than clothing, then obviously there is going to be a problem.
When traveling, I would fold and stack my kids blankets (a thick throw blanket each) and put them into one pillow case for travel. It was great. During the flight, I propped it up between them to use as a pillow and when we got there, they each had their blanket. If I did it right, I could even fit 2 kids hoodies in there.
It’s not just about pillow or liquids etc It’s about the number of items you carry . Depending on the airline they just let you take two items with you while flying , pillow or any shoulder purse apart from laptop bag and small suitcase is considered to be the third item which you are not allowed to carry while flying .

When traveling, I would fold and stack my kids blankets (a thick throw blanket each) and put them into one pillow case for travel. It was great. During the flight, I propped it up between them to use as a pillow and when we got there, they each had their blanket. If I did it right, I could even fit 2 kids hoodies in there.

It’s about the number of items you carry .
Depending on the airline they just let you take two items with you while flying , pillow or any shoulder purse apart from laptop bag and small suitcase is considered to be the third item which you are not allowed to carry while flying .

I worked at TSA, and we have no idea what is on your ticket,you can bring 5 suitcases and 12 backpacks if you want,we just make sure there is nothing dangerous in there
