I remember this show well. What's not to like for a young boy about a "flying cowboy" with a ranch, an airplane, and a pretty girl. I remember when the series changed to a newer airplane and was amazed at how much more "streamlined" the new one was. For some reason, this show didn't make me want to be a pilot, but rather make model airplanes of all sorts from plastic kits to balsa framed covered with paper.
Penny was so sweet and loving, but when the situation called for it she'd grab a rifle and take care of business like a veteran of Seal Team 6. No wonder so many boys of that era fell in love with her.
They missed so many opportunities to make other popular t.v. adventure shows like this in the 50s. They had plenty WWI & WWII veterans , former Army Rangers who could've played a t.v. hero rescuing lost, injured, people in the mountains and pursuing outlaws in the mountains. In the 50s Judo & Boxing were the most popular combat sports and the Army Airforce had Judo clubs producing skilled Judoka and the 1950s-60s Army Special Forces veterans were all Judo shodan. Alot of action hero t.v. show potential using such military veterans & Judoka of that era.
When did he go from a Beechcraft 18 to a Cessna 310. ? There is a significant difference. Just an Aviation aficionado now at 63. Too many aircraft to explain. 600> plus.
No episodes I know of where he owned a Beech. Beech’s guest-starred a few times. The first season Sky operated a Cessna T-50 Bobcat. Later he moved to a an early Cessna 310.
Hi, I had a Sky King Detecto Microscope. It was worth a quarter. Cardboard tube and painted with radioactive Radium glow in the dark lens cover. I played with it for a whole month or two before it dis-ta-peared. Had a Commando Cody Decoder Ring and a Captain Midnight Decoder Pin also. Peace
Interesting - the opening is the original one from the show's first season when the sponsor was Peter Pan Peanut Butter.. the announcer is actor Gerald Mohr....
I'll never understand how he could make so many "rough field" landings with the Cessna 310. A tricycle landing gear aircraft never meant for off airport use. I could understand it when he flew that ex- Word War Two bombardier trainer (not the Beech 18, which so many people confuse it with) which was a tail dragger and a much smaller plane but not the 310.
Good eyes. I didn't notice it when I first saw it over 60 years ago, and I still didn't notice it watching just now - had to get a second look. Didn't really get a good view of it until it fell on the ground. Also, note Sky's comment. "Sven's rifle was made long before any of us was born. Breech loader, smooth bore." If it was smooth bore, it wasn't a rifle!
Thanks! Curious: In which episode of his TV show did "Sky King" violate proper radiotelephone procedure by famously saying, "Roger, wilco, over, and out"?

Thanks. This was fun to watch.
Good ole Sky King was around when I was just a little feller. Thumb up for the memories.
I used to watch Sky King every Saturday morning. It was my favorite program because it was different than all the cowboy shows.

Love the show and commercials!
Nice. I have heard of this show but never saw a episode. Now i want a detecto microscope.

Good episode with 'Buddy' Baer as LeTourneau and Henry Rowland as the bad guy.

@@towcub Later I think he had a beech bonanza with the twin dove tails
@@siseley1 Beechcraft Bonanza, not " beech bonanza ".
@@siseley1 After Kirby Grant sold his Cessna T-50 Bobcat, he bought an early Cessna 310.
Sky King never had a Twin Beech, that was a Cessna T-50 Bobcat, also called a Bamboo Bomber, because it had a plywood covered wing.
How do I get my very own Sky King Detecto Microscope?
Hi,
I had a Sky King Detecto Microscope.
It was worth a quarter.
Cardboard tube and painted with radioactive Radium glow in the dark lens cover.
I played with it for a whole month or two before it dis-ta-peared.
Had a Commando Cody Decoder Ring and a Captain Midnight Decoder Pin also.
Peace
Someone told me there was TV show with my name, and here I am
All these people with French names and French - Canadian accents,..yet the show takes place in Arizona.
Interesting - the opening is the original one from the show's first season when the sponsor was Peter Pan Peanut Butter.. the announcer is actor Gerald Mohr....
Maybe not the first season, but an early one in the series nonetheless.

That was not a slug, it was an entire bullet, casing and all.

Is that Joan Collins doing the Peter Pan commercial?
no.
I'm pretty certain that it's Peggy Webber. She's still living and in her 90s.

Penny is quite irritating at times.
Always enjoyed this show, but honestly, Penny was completely unnecessary.

Nice car crash scene.
