Review one of Big L's either the big picture or lifestyles of the poor and dangerous, the Black Star album, revolutionary vol. 2 by immortal technique, reasonable doubt Jay-z, mobb deep the infamous, Nas it was written, or some gang Starr like moment of truth. Just some ideas
This album made me a fan of rap. I have always been a jazz head who enjoyed a small selection of rap releases. But when I got a taste of the jazz rap inflection I couldn't deal. Had to have everything it offered. GREAT choice!! I crossed my fingers for this one. lol
DO AESOP ROCK'S "LABOR DAYS". It's been arguably the most influential album in underground hip hop since its release, and it touches on perhaps the most prominent issue of that time, being the working population of the United States. Not only does he mention it, he touches on the issues better than anyone else. It would certainly be a privilege to see what you think of that album.
So, I was filling up my gas tank about 20 minutes ago, the dude at the pump ahead of me had been bumping this album, at the song “what?” So I turn to UA-cam, and of course our favorite Melon has a video on it. Classic shit homie. Also, I love Cal Chichester.
RIP To Mr Malik Taylor. and thanks for this review. My Opinion the Greatest Rap Album of the 90s from The Greatest East Coast Hip Hop Group of All Time #RIP #Phife Dawg
I love this album but surprisingly I like Beats, Rhymes & Life a lot better. I know Low End Theory has way more credibility (as well as being a bigger player in the hip-hop genre) but Beats, Rhymes & Life is just more catchy & more poetic. Plus the songs transition into themselves far better than on Low End Theory. Anthony do a review of Q-Tip's album The Renaissance (one of the most underrated hip-hop albums of all time). That particular album was my favorite hip/hop album of 2008 (which was overshadowed by Tha Carter III & 808's & Heartbreak). Still one of my top 20 hip-hop albums of all time. Thanks.
"Beats" was their worst when it came out in 96. I didn't even buy it when it dropped and thought it was dumbed down. It comes up a little today, most likely due to J-Dee productions. 4th best album according to most true hip hop heads.
I'm really not a fan of this album. But strangely I don't really disagree with anything you said. Each song taken individually is very good and it does have some classic singles. What I dislike about is how boring it is sonically. A lot of the songs don't stray far from bass a drum and one sample for the vast majority of the song, they usually have a cool intro then back to the same thing. I simply struggle to maintain interest with so little going on in each song that it was not able to maintain my interest for near 50 mins. Each song separately is great but a collection of great songs isn't the only thing an album requires.
Hey man, I know you get some hate sometimes, but I really appreciate your videos. It's really cool that you put this kind of effort and time into what you do. I would love to do something similar, analyzing music is very entertaining. So thanks for doing what you're doing, and keep doing it! Thanks.
Bring back Cal!!!! Fantano, how dare you leave him in hell! #neverforget Besides that, this is one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time. Can you kick it Hipthony Hoptano???
Tribe has always been one of my top favorite hip hop groups. This is a groundbreaking incredible album as well as the next one Midnight Marauders. 2 of the best albums ever created in not only hip hop history but music history too. RIP Phife Dawg. Glad I got to see the Tribe shine at Rock The Bells before your passing. Long live Tribe and their legacy!
YASSS!!! that's the definition of hip hop right there. some of the reviews i'd like to see: refused - the shape of punk to come atdi - relationship of command tmv - de-loused in the comatorium bad brains - s/t any of the early beasties albums any of the two drive like jehu's albums
Rashad Mosa Well, he is a fan of the Mars Volta so I wouldn't be surprised if he reviewed that or Frances the Mute...nobody gives any love for Amputechture tho. :c
i'm not really a big fan of the later albums that much. i absolutely worship de-loused, frances is awesome too, but everything else is a bit too trippy for me. i like the more straightforward stuff better (not that you can actually call anything they've done straightforward).
I agree. I kinda feel like they hit a plateau once they dropped Jon Theodore as their drummer. Jon's feel for the groove and intense energy is honestly what made their first three albums amazing.
Top 10 Hip Hop album of all time..recommended to all. The follow up Midnight Marauders was another shinning moment that demands a listen. If you like those two than through on the first album which is great and brimming with the potential realize on their next two releases..essential,
Not at all, it's not their best work but my favorite thing about that album is all the songs Jay Dee (J Dilla) produced such as the The Hop, 1nce Aga1n, Word play, etc.
Keep the classic reviews coming! I like them. Although this album has been in my top 3 for a long time now, I still like to see these video's with your vision on it.
tochiRTA I'll make three lists. First list are the albums I think will be or already are classics (only albums). Next, I'll answer and name my personal favorites. Last, since we are in this generation, are my favorite mixtapes since many mixtapes are as good or better than most albums. List #1 (Future or Current Classics) * means it's already a classic: Madvillain- Madvillainy * Kanye West- College Dropout * Kanye West- Late Registration * Common- Be * MF Doom- Mmm... Food * Ghostface Killah- Fishscale * Kanye West- Graduation * Raekwon- OB4CL Part 2 * Mos Def- Estatic * Jay-Z - Blueprint 3 Kanye West- MBDTF Saigon- Greatest Story Never Told Killer Mike- R.A.P Music * El-P - Cancer 4 Cure Kendrick Lamar- Section.80 Kendrick Lamar- GKMC * Run The Jewels- RTJ2 Roots- Undun * Pharaohe Monch- Desire PRhyme- PRhyme I have 2 points to make. The ones not asterisk is basically saying they have a chance to be a classic. Doesn't mean they will or won't, but they have the potential. Also, if I'm just sick and tired of people saying this was a bad year. This year had the type of depth of really good albums like the 90s did. Granted, the "top" albums of this year weren't as good as top albums in the 90s and early 2000s (RTJ2 is up there though). If we had 5+ potential classics compared to only 2, this would have been the best year since 2002 no doubt. Granted, PRhyme just came out, but it's still great which is no denying that. Also, people realize, though there was only 2 potential classics, there were about 25 legit GREAT albums. Never know, even some of those albums might be classics. The only album this year I'm sure will be classics are RTJ2.
tochiRTA Here's my answer haha (my bad, I love talking about hip hop, football and basketball). Anyways, here ya go. I'll name only 30 favorites, since I do have a lot of them. My top 30 (doesn't mean all those classics I mentioned will be on there of course and these are albums, not mixtapes. I'll get to my top 20 mixtapes after this). In No particular order: Run The Jewels- RTJ2 Killer Mike- R.A.P. Music Kendrick- GKMC Kanye West- Graduation Kanye West- Late Registration Madvillain- Madvillainy Clear Soul Forces- Gold PP7s Common- Be Freddie Gibbs & Madlib- Piñata Ghostface Killah- Fishscale Nas- Life is Good J Dilla- Donuts CZARFACE- CZARFACE Nas- Hip Hop is Dead Necro & Kool G Rap- Once Upon a Crime Roots (Literally every album they have had since 2004) Pharaohe Monch- PTSD Pharaohe Monch- Desire Pharaohe Monch- W.A.R. Thurz- L.A. Riotz Raekwon- OB4CL Part 2 Q-Tip- Renaissance (WHICH BTW, I forgot to add that to potential classics) Statik Selektah- What Goes Around Statik Selektah- Extended Play Little Brother- The Listening Clipse- Hell Hath No Fury (ALSO FORGOT, potential classic) K-Os - Joyful Rebellion (potential classic) Danger Doom- The Mouse and The Mask Danny Brown- XXX
Sam Alexander Here's my 20 favorite mixtapes and EPs since 2010: Joey Bada$$- 1999 (Can't wait for B4.Da.$$) Pro Era- PEEP the aPROcalypse Big K.R.I.T.- KRIT Wuz Here Kendrick Lamar- Over Dedicated Isaiah Rashad- Cilvia Demo Your Old Droog- Your Old Droog EP Vince Staples- Hell Can Wait CJ Fly- Thee Way I see it Chance The Rapper- Acid Rap Action Bronson- SAAB Stories Blu- Good to Be Home Joey Bada$$- Summer Knights Logic- Young Sinatra: Undeniable Logic- Young Sinatra King Los- Zero Gravity All I got as of right now. Forgot my favorite one actually which is... Elzhi (eLZhi)- Elmatic

Happy 30th Anniversary to this masterpiece
Review one of Big L's either the big picture or lifestyles of the poor and dangerous, the Black Star album, revolutionary vol. 2 by immortal technique, reasonable doubt Jay-z, mobb deep the infamous, Nas it was written, or some gang Starr like moment of truth. Just some ideas
Q Tip is the executive producer of Danny Brown’s new album
Glad to see the era remain relevant nearly 30 years later
3:18 nice little Death Grips reference there, dunno if that was intentional or not XD
+MadGhost of course it was, you know anthony
+MadGhost spread eagle cross the block
And I can't believe nobody noticed that he's wearing a Death Grips shirt too

"I float like gravity"
Best lyric of all time.
Paid In Full- Eric B. & Rakim
"Thought I was a donut/ You tried to glaze meh"
Pls review¿
Review their new album!!!
This album made me a fan of rap. I have always been a jazz head who enjoyed a small selection of rap releases. But when I got a taste of the jazz rap inflection I couldn't deal. Had to have everything it offered. GREAT choice!! I crossed my fingers for this one. lol
akon the chief
I felt it was a low to light 11/10. Yes, all that plus one more.
Although The Low End Theory is a good album, it will never be better/ represent TCQ more than Midnight Marauders
3:18 is incredibly fucking noided
...EAGLE CROSS THE BLOCK SPP-SPREAD EAGLE CROSS THE BLOCK
I WANT IT I NEED IT
ALL I REALLY NEED IS SOME COOL SHIT TO MOOOOOOOOOOOB
First album I had ever bought! 23 years later and I still love it... can't believe it's been that long.
Never clicked so fast in my life, oh wait this is from 8 years ago. Thank you algo
So, I was filling up my gas tank about 20 minutes ago, the dude at the pump ahead of me had been bumping this album, at the song “what?”
So I turn to UA-cam, and of course our favorite Melon has a video on it.
Classic shit homie.
Also, I love Cal Chichester.
The Rizzer and the Jizzer and the Space Ghost Killer lol ok Choptony Choptano
RIP To Mr Malik Taylor. and thanks for this review. My Opinion the Greatest Rap Album of the 90s from The Greatest East Coast Hip Hop Group of All Time
#RIP #Phife Dawg
Greatest hip hop album of all time. Pure love.
1:15 3:40 4:02 4:15 4:30 5:05 8:10

Inspector Gadget, my favourite *Tribe Called Quest* member
"I don't wanna touch a man's hand,
Coz I'm silly" - Darkmanthony XTano
He should do Midnight Marauders next. Or The Pharcydes Lafcabincalifornia
if he did a Pharcyde record it would prolly be Bizarre Ride
Thanks.
+Philip Wernsman Same here man. I thought I was the only one. People always tend to diss Beats Rhymes & Life over the earlier albums
"Beats" was their worst when it came out in 96. I didn't even buy it when it dropped and thought it was dumbed down. It comes up a little today, most likely due to J-Dee productions. 4th best album according to most true hip hop heads.
yeah you're probably right. the first time i listened to the tribe albums was after 2010 so my view is probably a little different.
I like midnight marauders more but this album is a straight classic and will forever be remembered :)
MrFattymattyweasel what do you think of Midnight Marauders?
This is one of the best album to chill out to late night.
Hey man, I know you get some hate sometimes, but I really appreciate your videos. It's really cool that you put this kind of effort and time into what you do. I would love to do something similar, analyzing music is very entertaining. So thanks for doing what you're doing, and keep doing it! Thanks.
im gonna assume 3:18 was a spread eagle cross the block reference
Bring back Cal!!!! Fantano, how dare you leave him in hell! #neverforget Besides that, this is one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time. Can you kick it Hipthony Hoptano???
Tribe has always been one of my top favorite hip hop groups. This is a groundbreaking incredible album as well as the next one Midnight Marauders. 2 of the best albums ever created in not only hip hop history but music history too. RIP Phife Dawg. Glad I got to see the Tribe shine at Rock The Bells before your passing. Long live Tribe and their legacy!
YASSS!!! that's the definition of hip hop right there.
some of the reviews i'd like to see:
refused - the shape of punk to come
atdi - relationship of command
tmv - de-loused in the comatorium
bad brains - s/t
any of the early beasties albums
any of the two drive like jehu's albums
That'd be awesome if he'd review Deloused in the comatorium or even relationship of command. Highly doubt it though
Rashad Mosa Well, he is a fan of the Mars Volta so I wouldn't be surprised if he reviewed that or Frances the Mute...nobody gives any love for Amputechture tho. :c
Amputechture is a great album. Especially with Songs like tetragrammaton, day of the baphomets, and meccamputechture
i'm not really a big fan of the later albums that much. i absolutely worship de-loused, frances is awesome too, but everything else is a bit too trippy for me. i like the more straightforward stuff better (not that you can actually call anything they've done straightforward).
If you like those two than through on the first album which is great and brimming with the potential realize on their next two releases..essential,
This album only sounds better and better as the years wear on.
This album is a favorite of mine, but I still prefer Midnight Marauders over Low End Theory.
requesting Converge's classic record Jane Doe
Since 1991, I will always be Buggin' Out because of this beautiful album.
Would you guys be mad at me if I said that Beats Rhymes and Life is my favorite Tribe album?
Its my favourite as well.
I think Beats, Rhymes, and Life ATCQ went straight for their lyrical side and with the addition of Consequence. It was perfect. Not their best though
Not at all, it's not their best work but my favorite thing about that album is all the songs Jay Dee (J Dilla) produced such as the The Hop, 1nce Aga1n, Word play, etc.
I really like that album. Moreso then their Debut Peoples Instinctive Travels. Very Underrated Album but LET and MM are their best works, imo
Brandon Standifer no way. that LP is slammin
I'm a bit scared to watch this as its one of my favourite albums and he tends to be quite harsh
Yup, in classics week every chosen album is 10/10
Is there really anything bad that can be said about this album?
TorcidaCro huh? That's really odd. Because this and Unknown Pleasures are straight 5/10s
Piero Scaruffi but it's his opinion
TorcidaCro *classic/10
Keep the classic reviews coming! I like them. Although this album has been in my top 3 for a long time now, I still like to see these video's with your vision on it.
Yesterday he reviewed a t-shirt, today he reviews a Coach Z Halloween costume
you should review Only Built 4 Cuban Linx or Supreme Clientele. a liquid swords review would be cool too.
crazylegs224 you mentioned the top 3 wu albums right there. They're probably too gritty for Fantano, but he's a smart dude so maybe he'll get them
rip phife dawg
Midnight Marauders will always be my favorite album
Too me, this album is a top 5 hip hop album all-time.
Sam Alexander what are your favorite rap albums of the last decade?
tochiRTA I'll make three lists. First list are the albums I think will be or already are classics (only albums). Next, I'll answer and name my personal favorites. Last, since we are in this generation, are my favorite mixtapes since many mixtapes are as good or better than most albums.
List #1 (Future or Current Classics) * means it's already a classic:
Madvillain- Madvillainy *
Kanye West- College Dropout *
Kanye West- Late Registration *
Common- Be *
MF Doom- Mmm... Food *
Ghostface Killah- Fishscale *
Kanye West- Graduation *
Raekwon- OB4CL Part 2 *
Mos Def- Estatic *
Jay-Z - Blueprint 3
Kanye West- MBDTF
Saigon- Greatest Story Never Told
Killer Mike- R.A.P Music *
El-P - Cancer 4 Cure
Kendrick Lamar- Section.80
Kendrick Lamar- GKMC *
Run The Jewels- RTJ2
Roots- Undun *
Pharaohe Monch- Desire
PRhyme- PRhyme
I have 2 points to make.
