I got my new sheath in the mail a couple weeks ago. I had to buy one at a time. My knife in the box with out the plastic sheath. It came with a piece of card board. Oh well. I didn't mind. The knife was what I was wanting. I got the sheath and it was worth the wait for the sheath. I use mine as my a EDC gear. Now I want to get the big brother and the Skrama blade next. Everything I've bought from Varusteleka.com has been great quality gear. My favorite backpack is the Savotta Jakaari S, a 19 liter pack that will accommodate everything I need for an overnighter and occasionally for two nights. I own several Mora's but after watching this review I will invest into one of those Terava Puuko's and the leather sheath...love the looks of that dangler set up. The shipping from Suomo, Finland is via DHL and for ten bucks you cannot go wrong. It's a quick service, too. Thank you for a great review, Bryan!
Nice review man! I've got one myself and it's by far my favorite knife. Easy to maintain, sharpen and handles all tasks I've tried. I've even chopped down a few smaller trees with it.
The best bang for you buck in the knife world . Now you need the Skrama what a beast a real chopper . Yeah you do need to sharpen it now and then but these 2 blades are real work horses as they say, they are now after 45 years my go to blades and I am waiting for the elk horn to re handle them both with stabilized elk can't wait . Wow! Pretty darn good Knife for US$32.00 + shipping. Thank you for exposing us to this tool, I never heard of this knife or company until I saw your video. I also want to thank your Subscribers who recommended it to you.
I own the 110 and 140. Im a bigger than of the 140 because it's a bit longer, but the 110 is a great Bushcraft / Camp knife. The fins are putting out a great knife. They also have the Skrama for chopping. Good vid chief
Firstly, I don't really care for a lot of knives that you review. However. You do give each one the same respect in your testing. With that said.... I really do like the look and performance of this one.....very cool knife!
Always enjoy your reviews. You played a big part in me choosing the Schrade SCHF 57 and SCHF 36. I love those. I have a Mora Companion but really like the sheath option with this one. Thanks for the work you do on these videos.
I have always looked at these to buy however I am a fan of longer blade knives 🔪 but you have sold me on getting one now 👍🏻🇦🇺 cheers Brother from across the pond ;)
Been making my rounds on UA-cam, lotta political stuff lately but got a hankerin for some S.O.P and ran across a good one, the vt-110. Have bought more than one knife after checking out your reviews and just so happens the vt-110 is what I'm wearing tonight. Good to see you're still on the job. Appreciate you Brian!
Hey Bryan and viewers did you know that there are now 2 variations on a mini version of this knife available? No 1 is a basic all steel (skeletonised handle) the available sheath is a simple slip type leather sheath with 2 holes in a little hump at the mouth so it can be hung point down around the neck No 2 is same size but has the full overmould handle of the normal knife tbe sheath for this one is a scaled down copy of the original that's the mini puuko there is also a mini skrama same dimensions etc slightly different blade shape, I have both variants and think highly of them 👍 Bill
I think I might like this better than a Garberg. The interesting differential heat treatment sounds really neat, and I love that sheath. Kind of reminds me if my 35 year old Maartinni puukko. It's about that same size, so maybe I should get the 140. The Finns made quite good use of their puukkos in the Winter War by the way. I love the Finns.
This is a great little knife especially with the sheath. It’s not some fancy show off piece, just a good and strong worker you can depend on. Recommended. I am going to get one for my daughter when we start to go hiking for woodcraft. We are Finnish/American so it’s nice to have as a heritage blade, along with my skrama.
I've owned the Terava Jaakaripuukko 110 long enough to deem it a keeper in my stable of knives. I also own the Skarma. This combo is all I need in my AO. They were made for hard use for sure.
Great to the point and thorough review Bryan... and I enjoy your ramblings. Bought this knife myself in the 110mm variant and agree with everything you mentioned. It's a mini beast and the sheath is incredible. If you just consider the price of the knife itself at only around 30 bucks, it just might be one of the best bang for the buck bush craft blades available right now although I think the Mora Robust is also hard to beat for the price as well. Great no nonsense review of this Puukko!!!
This knife has near same dimensions as the "Helle" brand that comes from Norway. (Common shape in Scandinavia) Many "Helle" knifes have a laminated SS blade. I have a Harding model by Helle. I have had it for almost 30 years. Stays razor sharp and has harvest many deer. I have battoned with it many times. This knife will probably suprise you. Great vid.
Amazing review love the way you test en just give a quick accurate review! Just bought the knife with the leather sheath unbelievable quality for a low price! Thanks! You can bij 4 of these with sheath and still be under the price of 1 Fallkniven 😂 Unbelievable. I am a happy man 😎👍🏼
Brian, I am always grateful for your input. Try also the Terävä Skrama!! Especially if the sheath is on stock..... Since I have been using the longer version (140 mm) in stainless steel, I totally agree, it is a quality knife - shame they don’t print their name on every knife :-). Because you lead me to their website, I saw the big chopper Terävä Skrama is on sale AND (that is unusual) the black leathersheath I was able to order also with one payment, one shipping fee!!!! Thank for that timely video. Unfortunately my phone didn’t work with the site therefore I used my MacBook, but without going through your linksystem, sorry for that.
nice, informative review - thx for sharing. If you want to know, what the tang looks like, you don't need to tear it apart, just take a look at their blade blanks - I call it a full tang, just slightly narrower than the handle to allow for overmolding (you don't want to touch steel at -40°C/°F).
I have this knife! The spine is super sharp, The cutting edge wasn't very sharp out of the box but a few minutes on the whetstone and she's hair shaving sharp. Great review Bryan ATB and enjoy your weekend
Awesome! I got the stainless Garberg because I live on the coast. I keep hearing such good stuff about this knife though.... I might grab up the longer one for batoning. Great review! Thanks😀😀
I always enjoy watching you videos. Really enjoy seeing you throw the knives at the end of the video to check the balance. You are good at that. If I tried to do that, the knife would probably not impact the way yours does and come back and stab me. Thanks for sharing. ATB.
Great knife. I bought one about 6 months ago. Took a long time to arrive but the outdoor/miltyp place had them on back order. Now Gerber is marketing an almost exact copy for $80. The hole in the tang is also good for holding a bow drill fire starting pin.
Survival On Purpose What I meant, was that Mora is gonna have a hard time selling Garbergs now with this knife as a competing option. Especially at that price!
Great review on the Terava Puukko. I like this knife and that sheath is a winner, too! As Luke at TOGR says that Varusteleka has been known to be pronounced, "Where's the liquor?" I hope that Amazon will be able to sell this knife in the near future. It sure does resemble the Mora Garberg...hmmmm.
I like it Bryan :) Seems the Garberg has to wait. Just ordered one of those and a Mini-Skrama. ( Finally. Has been on my list for ages. Both have. ) My holiday just started so I guess I have a kydex project coming :) I have heard lots about the Jääkäripuukko. People have liked it. And I can clearly see why :) Performs well with both ferro rods and flint. Highly affordable. And I love knives that make great feathers! I am heading to Lapland in some two weeks and hoping to finish the sheaths by then. Perfect opportunity to test new stuff :) And see how they compare to my favorite outdoor blades. Looking forward to the follow up and the comparison with Garberg :) Awesome review as always! Big thumbs up! Have a great week Bryan :)
Semi full tang or protruding stick tang is what is used to describe a knife where the tang is running all the way to the end of the handle and in some cases stick out (protruding stick tang), but the handle is overmould. We call it a full tang if you can see the steel on the side of the handle and it's handle slabs on the metal. Most Scandinavian knives have overmould handles because it gets really cold. The exception is Enzo (also Finish) who have full tang models also. It's just another way of calling things over here in the old world that might be confusing sometimes but I do recommend checking out Enzo. It's the brand I often take out when I need a small camp knife. You can see the tang of the knife on the website but it's broad. Not some flimsy rat tail. As you mentioned you can also feel it. The whole knife feels rugged. For the money one of the best smaller camp knives out there.
Whenever I see this knife I think of the Tops BOB. It has the same shape and is ground the same (Scandi with secondary bevel). It is a hair thinner though. I like that sheath. Thanks for showing it Bryan. The BOB would be another good knife to compare it to, along with the Garberg. Just a thought.
This 110 is a BEAST!!! I just got mine in the mail WOW such incredible quality for a budget price. They BLOW away top end knives and low end of course..
I have the 140mm carbon steel version which is my favorite bushcraft/belt knife. The handle is exceptionally gripy and comfortable, overall a very capable work knife!
Great knives. I have the mini Skrama, I have a paracord handle on it for now but I'm going to make a micarta handle soon. When I get the micarta slabs on, I'm going to make it my EDC, retiring my Busse Active Duty.
There's nothing I don't like about that knife. Function/Looks/Affordability -ticks all the boxes. And that optional sheath would put many high-end ($$$) custom ones to shame. Sold!
Think on „where is the liqueur“ - than you get the name almost right 😉 This is my favourite knife but do you know the Skrama series of them? Pretty nice knives indeed…
Had one for awhile. The 110. Excellent knife. Glad you found the same. Excellent to see you light char cloth with the blade and a flint. I shall try that. Mine wasn't finished very well but I bought it to work. Never bought the sheath. I made one. Are you intending to try their skrama next? I keep looking at it. Love the channel. All the best.
Might have been forgotten... but i find it worth to mention that "varusteleka" is not a manufacturer, they are selling Army surplus stuff and sure enough this is from the finnish army. This is a finnish army jaeger knife. (jääkäri - Jäger(german) Jaeger(english?) in ww2 finnish soldiers all had their personal "puukko" (pronounce lik "puh-k koh" (not pjuke-o !) when the war came, and they used them sucscessfully in the forrest and on the invaders. nowadays, the finnisch army provides the knifes - if it would be anything less worthy than the (usually high end) individual knifes, it would just be thrown into the bin. So they decided to make it good pragmatic as they are in finland.
Good point on the Varusteleka part. A slight correction on the Finnish army part though. This knife is manufactured for Varusteleka by Laurin Metalli. These are brand new knives made to serve you well for a long time. Also the army does not provide a knife for the average conscript. We will bring our own knives to the service with us.
Story time... when I received my 110 Carbon version Jääkäripuukko, it came 2 weeks later than scheduled via USPS. The box had been soaking wet, and it was wrapped in clear plastic. The knife was rusted from one end to the other, and the leather shealth stunk to high heaven. Instead of returning it all, I decided to challenge myself to clean it all up and put it into service. It took me a very long time to remove all of the rust. There were a few "pits" along the blade edge, so I re-did the edge, putting a small convex grind to the scandi. I like my scandi grinds to have some convexing... seems to improve the strength. Anyway... will I ever buy another one? Yes, but I'd like the 140cm blade and IN STAINLESS this time.
There are a number of negative reviews on their website about this knife...enough to deter me from buying one. Quality control issues...dull spots on blade, offset edges, etc. Looks like a nice knife if you get a good one. Not sure I'd want to deal with sending a bad one back to Finland and waiting for a replacement, which in some reviews, didn't resolve the problem. Think I'll stick to my Mora, for now anyway.
I'd love to have a pukka someday. Always does great on tests. I've got a camillus bushcrafter. Simple but effective knife. Only modification i did was I added a sharpening choil. I'd like to lend it to you to review and beat the tar out of it to see if it would hold up. If it doesnt, then no need to send it back. Lol. I will wait for your reply. I think this is your kind of knife, even though you have a soft spot for bigger blades.
Yet another winner from Finland, lol.
I've had several leukus and puukkos,(Ahti, Kellam, Wood Jewel, Martiini) and the only issue I've had is the hilts tend to be a bit short for my bear paws.
Other than that, they've all been beautiful, well made tools.

I can see why
Wow, looks like the Mora Garberg carbon sure had a short run. Thanks for sharing Brian!
Not at all, just responding to requests. I think both are great knives
Or vice versa. They are both basically traditional Nordic/ Scandinavian designs.

Thanks Jani. I think you will like it
Brilliant m8
I agree with you. This is an excellent knife and a great value
Hmmm. You think so?
I have both and they are very similar blade wise (shape). The terava has a slightly higher grind and goes through wood a tad better.
I do have an unreasonable bias against Mora's but this certainly looks like a superior knife to the Garberg
Not sure if one is superior to the other. Both seem good to me. I may do a head to head comparison video
that would be good
Both are great ^^
This one is like half the price of the Garberg & just as good for Bushcraft.
@@PerceptionVsReality333 nah. About 20 cheaper if you include the sheath with the puukko....
I use my 140 for everything and it's bulletproof! I would trust and carry this knife in combat!
Yes it is
Have you seen the new 85, I'm thinking about recommending it to my boyscout troop
I have not
This 110 is a BEAST!!! I just got mine in the mail WOW such incredible quality for a budget price. They BLOW away top end knives and low end of course..
It is a beast
@@SurvivalOnPurpose how do you feel after all this time?? I just made a kydex sheath😁🤙🔪
I have the 140mm carbon steel version which is my favorite bushcraft/belt knife. The handle is exceptionally gripy and comfortable, overall a very capable work knife!
I agree
Great knives. I have the mini Skrama, I have a paracord handle on it for now but I'm going to make a micarta handle soon. When I get the micarta slabs on, I'm going to make it my EDC, retiring my Busse Active Duty.
I like that one too
I'm impressed!!
So was I
The Martiini Condor Timberjack is a good blade as well. I agree with your view on batoning, there a middle ground between the two extremes.
I have heard that
Great view as always..
Did you ever do the comparison with the mora garberg?
There's nothing I don't like about that knife. Function/Looks/Affordability -ticks all the boxes. And that optional sheath would put many high-end ($$$) custom ones to shame. Sold!
It is a good one
Think on „where is the liqueur“ - than you get the name almost right 😉 This is my favourite knife but do you know the Skrama series of them? Pretty nice knives indeed…
It’s ”sharp jaegar knife” in English and in Finnish ”terävä jääkäri puukko”
Cool
Had one for awhile. The 110. Excellent knife. Glad you found the same. Excellent to see you light char cloth with the blade and a flint. I shall try that. Mine wasn't finished very well but I bought it to work. Never bought the sheath. I made one.
Are you intending to try their skrama next? I keep looking at it.
Love the channel. All the best.
Skrama......hmmmm ;-)
I have this knife...love it.
It is a cool knife
I'd forgotten you'd reviewed this knife. I like it better than the Garberg. Better handle and better sheath.
Might have been forgotten... but i find it worth to mention that "varusteleka" is not a manufacturer, they are selling Army surplus stuff and sure enough this is
from the finnish army.
This is a finnish army jaeger knife. (jääkäri - Jäger(german) Jaeger(english?)
in ww2 finnish soldiers all had their personal "puukko" (pronounce lik "puh-k koh" (not pjuke-o !) when the war came, and they used them sucscessfully in the forrest and on the invaders.
nowadays, the finnisch army provides the knifes - if it would be anything less worthy than the (usually high end) individual knifes, it would just be thrown into the bin.
Bummer
They would’ve sent you a new one if you asked.
Love that knife I have thr 110 in carbon steel and then bought the 140 in stainless. Both great and I have a hard time deciding which one to use.
Choices choices
Great video greetings from Luxembourg
Thanks
Thanks for sharing, God bless
Thanks for watching.
Bryan, Did you know that you can use the pommel as a handle for the bow drill spindle?
One of my favorites. Hopefully they sent you a Skrama and at least one of the of the Mini Skrama or Mini Puukkos.
I did get a Skarma, no minis. Maybe next time. The balance test on the Skarma was FUN
How exactly is the interior part of the blade hardened more than the exterior?
There are a number of negative reviews on their website about this knife...enough to deter me from buying one. Quality control issues...dull spots on blade, offset edges, etc. Looks like a nice knife if you get a good one. Not sure I'd want to deal with sending a bad one back to Finland and waiting for a replacement, which in some reviews, didn't resolve the problem. Think I'll stick to my Mora, for now anyway.
Varusteleka is a cool company with good products that are hard to find. I've order several items from them and get them in a week or less.
Cool
Respect %
Thanks
Thx for vid! would you pick that knife brand over Mora Garberg?
super 👍
good video
Thanks. I appreciate it.
I may try to check them out at Blade Show next week
Survival On Purpose . Sounds good Brian. You have a great day now.
