      When I hear a linear series turning more open world, I groan. There are not a lot of good open worlds. And halo infinite is a prime example of an open world failing to engage players in a meaningful way

      Given that overhyped mess of a God of War game from few years back was apparently supposed to have constituted as an open world game, yet I remember spending most of my playtime with it walking and/or jogging my way through bunch of linear caves and mountain paths, I'm very much left feeling the term barely even means anything anymore.

    With the insane obsession of “everything has to be open world” since BOTW, I feel like the most creative way to approach a game right now is actually a more linear style. I’m finding myself appreciating this style more lately. This game is definitely an awesome balance of beautiful 3D with good linear progression. Played the demo and will definitely buy.

    I personally wanted a 3D kirby game just because it would open up the movement and leady to tons of creative ideas not possible in 2D. Absolutely love the choice to go with stages over an open world. Not every game needs to be open world. The novelty of that wore off years ago... it’s no longer bold or interesting to copy and paste the Breath of the Wild/Ubisoft formula into every game. The curated experience that stages provide is what can really differentiate game on more than just a setting level.
    With the changing fixed camera angles and dystopian backdrop, this gameplay felt strangely reminiscent of Nier Automata.

      I have yet to see many games that have successfully copied BOTW style open world. Only Elden ring comes to mind in terms of exploration. The reason why is because it actually takes effort to design an open world like that. Much simpler to use way points and map markers like Ubisoft games.
      Games like genshin impact just copy the grass look.
      With Ubisoft you have a point though, that formula is so overdone.

    Surprised that people anyone was expecting an open world, Odyssey style game. It always looked like more of a linear 3D adventure like 3D World. Very obvious paths, no camera control, a world map, etc. That being said, this is kind of the Kirby game I’ve wanted for years. My worry is that this game will become too much of a “lock and key” style game where you’re just constantly using the closest copy ability to solve an obvious puzzle.

    The game looks great, even though an open world would have made it better. Stage Selecting is fine and all...but that is very played out. Let's try something different like making games that are normally side-scrolling and linear and make them 3D open world (like Megaman and Metroid). It also would have been nice if they took a hint from the Super Nintendo Kirby Superstar and made your co-op ally whatever enemy you swallow and gave you the choice of making them your ally or taking the power for yourself. It still looks really fun though.

    The demo is a blast, although I wouldn't say things ran perfectly. I played in handheld mode, so keep that in mind, but I noticed some noticeable frame rate dips when running behind large objects (I think they were trees). The objects go transparent so you can still see your character and Kirby was definitely moving more slowly. I also saw some Pokemon Arceus-style frame rate drops when looking at movement in the background. I hope that kind of stuff isn't in the final game. I'm excited for this one!

    • @FlameUser64
      @FlameUser64 2 роки тому

      The frame drops on background movement are intentional to save processing power, so I expect them to be there in the final game. It's not exactly frame drops so much as it is deliberately only rendering every 3rd frame.

    I don’t mind that it’s not a huge open world. As long as the levels are large and creative, some fun secrets. I am kind of disappointed that the camera is so fixed though.

    • @LocrianDorian
      @LocrianDorian 2 роки тому +6

      There isn't really anything wrong with a fixed camera, it depends entirely on the game/level design. Would you want a controllable camera in any other Kirby game? No! It would needlessly complicate things and allow you to ruin the perfect viewing angle for the content. It's just a way to frame the level in the way the designers want. As a result, they can also hide things using perspective in a smart way and such. You can't do this with a free camera. It's just another tool, what matters is how it's used.

    Tbh, having a huge open-world BOTW-esque game would've been too ambitious for Kirby's first fully-3D game, so I'll cut HAL some slack.

    I really liked the demo but it wasn’t enough to make me buy the full game though.
    It looks pretty, music is great and it it controls well - but it‘s so so not challenging in any way.
    All secrets - at least in the first area - are basically shoved in your face and the general difficulty is so low, I ran through the demo without losing a single fraction of my health.
    Guess it’s a great game for beginners though. I‘d recommend everyone else to play the demo first.
    It’s fun - but it’s a bit too much harmless fun for my taste.

    im actually really glad it's not open world. Not everything needs to be open world and I think the level based structure works the best for kirby's more simplistic gameplay!
    They never really advertised it as open world or anything everyone just assumed that when they saw him moving in 3d. Kinda a dumb thing to assume but I can see why, with everything becoming open world for no reason.
