I have a an excursion with an 8 inch lift and a similar Carry On 5x8. There's a site called trailer blocks that makes lift blocks for utility trailers. I combined an axle flip and a 3 inch block with cutting off the fenders to mount the same 37s as my Excursion does. Trailer now rides at almost same height as my Ex and I don't need a drop hitch plus so much more stable with the heavy wheels and tires and has usable ground clearance for hauling shit down logging roads and 4wd trails.
looking good brother! 2 concerns i saw would be it looks like you have the shackle bolts pretty tight? if so you will want to back those off a little and just barely run them down to touch the shackle plates, then tack weld the nut to the bolt. you need the shackle to be able to articulate with suspension movement. second thing is be careful if your welding on something that is galvanized or zink coated like that tongue jack. when you weld it it puts off gasses that are horrible for you. keep it up brother. i enjoy your videos!
Thank you. I will back them off a little bit and tac welding them or a drill a hole and put a cotter pin on it. So I didn’t know about the galvanized steel. So thank you for that aswell!
Nice job I like your jeep and I like your ram truck, I am modifying a teardrop trailer that I just purchased to tow behind my jeep and I’m thinking of putting 33 inch tires on it it’s got 28 inch tires or something close to 28 inches and I just installed a lift kit on it which is basically blocks, and hey who cares about how good the welds look as long as they hold kudos to you have fun out there👍
The full time 4x4 folks and overlanders they put the same size wheels and tires and lug patterns that their vehicle has that way they carry one spare tire and it fits their whole rig and thats a pretty good idea. I didnt know if you had heard that or might be something you might want to do later on. I dont know how much off roading your planning on doing? Thanks for your great character buddy we need more like you!
Thank you I appreciate it. My jeep that I had when I built it had a spare. I built it to be pulled behind my rock crawler but I sold it before my son was born. I wasn’t trying to lift him in and out of it.
@RashadsGarage OH ok! I think yesterday I seen a video pop up but I wasn't able to stop and watch but it was bout 3 months ago and you said something bout selling your jeep and I was hoping you would keep it to where yall could still get out a little bit and get a break. But I do understand I've got 3 but mine is grown but I couldn't imagine trying to get them in my 4x4s when they were little and mine ain't jacked up a whole lot. My Dodge Ram has a factory 3 and a half inch lift on it and I would had to tell my wife to jump in and say here he comes and throw him like a football to her. I'm short and I have to jump up to get in. But I truly admire buddy and I mean that at least you hot your priorities right and your precious child will know it and I guarantee your wife preciates it!
@RashadsGarage Great! Kids are great but we still have to enjoy life with them. Just one suggestion! When my oldest son was born I hauled cattle all over. When he was 6 months old ha had done been more places than a lot of people go in a life time. I took him everywhere with me. On his 6 month check up the doc playing with him ask him what have you been doing and I told the doc he has been cow hauling! Doc asked me what do you mean and I told him and he said OH NO NO NO he can't be doing that!!! I Said oh it's ok Doc it's no problem! This is what I want you to hear buddy! The Doc told me NO more and he was serious! He told me his little organs haven't got in place yet and the tissues around his organs has completely growed to hold his organs good where they are suppose to be and in that truck bouncing on the roads and going out on farms will cause his body to bounce and his organs bouncing up and down won't let his tissues to grow and hold his organs on place and will cause him to have serious problems when he got older if not before. It broke my heart but I asked him how long to I have to wait and he said it would be best to wait till he was 2 and a half but if yall take care of him when he is 2 we will look at him then and he will probly be ok but NOT until then. I parked him at home right then but let me tell you when he turned 2 we was at the doctors office and he was back cow trucking with me right then! He was my buddy and he went home to be with our LORD June 4th 2013 motorcycle wreck front wheel locked up. Not telling you that for pity cause I'm so grateful for the precious 28 years I was truly Blessed to have my boy!!! I was just telling you bout what the doc said cause I'm sure your not out in the jeep off road every day but when you take your precious baby with you just try to think bout what the doc said and there is NO doubt in me I truly know you love your precious child you have proved that but what the doc told me is the only time in my life have I ever heard that or was ever told that and I would be pretty sorry if I didn't share that with you! Sorry it's so long!
Love the disclaimer about safty with a pice of metal flying off and hitting you then puts on them trusty safty crocks 😀 Nice video definitely a good upgrade
Im a sucker for not wearing safty glasses while grinding because they steam up only been for metal removing from my eye 2x and still think its easier to not wear them haha
I wouldnt normaly say something like this but the old fenders looked cute with them big tires, that wouldve gave them something to talk about buddy! I was just wondering what weight axle and setup do you have now and if you told im sorry i missed it? Good thing your a little man so you had a whole lot of room up under the trailer when you were welding! Thanks for the video i realy preciate you taking the time to share and im just now fixing to strip down a old Scottys camper thats got a lot of water damage and try to build back up for a overland trailer or a 4x4 trailer to go out and get away and camp and its got 13 inch tires on it it sets right on ground and back bumper drags ground on way home but only had to go less than a mile. It sure wont work on my 94 Dodge Ram 2500 with 3 and a half lift from factory so your video is right on time buddy! Thanks! Now since your done with yours and you have plenty of time do you mind coming over and helping me and i want you to know i dont mind a bit, no sir i dont mind at all so dont let it bother you cause i will be more than glad to let you help i sure will ole buddy! Enjoy your setup and Happy Trails my friend!
It’s a 3500lbs axle. Thank you for the feedback. I actually sold it when my wife got pregnant because I realized we were not going to use it. My son is 3 months now. I think I’ll build another when he’s closer to 2 years old
@@RashadsGarageThanks for getting back to me! Congratulations on yalls precious baby! And it says a whole lot about you buddy putting your family first and I'm proud of you cause today's time a whole lot of folks wouldn't have done that! I hope you kept your Jeep though so yall can still go out and get away and have fun? I hope and pray your baby ,you and wife is doing well!
Great video. I have the same trailer and would love to do the same thing you did to yours. Rooftop tent and maybe some kayak racks. Just have one question. What size axle did you get. I was thinking of getting a 65 HF 3500lb axle. Trying to get my done before 24th Feb. thanks.
This is the one I bought www.ebay.com/itm/284649159355?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=GPs66S-RRCi&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=E3QCuWzyT4C&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Nice work man looks really cool! I'm looking at getting one of these and would like to get little bigger tires on there. Is it pretty simple to find bigger rims for the bolt pattern? I don't know much about trailers but need something to haul crap in and my quad. Thanks
I think the axle and the spings are backwards. Generally the axle goes on top. If you flip the axle, the wheels will not be correctly aligned. But there is a kit that allows you to flip the axle.
How fast can you with the trailer attached I just bought mine and I'm been told the max I could go is 55 plus I've seen the signs too lol just wondering what's your top speed on it
@terrancefisherii1919 yeah they are 55. Which is why is like to upgrade them but there are so many kinds I didn't know which ones to get. Ideally, I'd like to use it for a little off road camping as well. If you have any advice as to which to go for that would be much appreciated
@@epenaloza52 I plan on going with an axle that has the same lug pattern as a jeep wrangler. Tires/rims are easy to find on marketplace and worst case scenario, you run lug pattern adapters
