So good! I do the blah blah blah technique. All sub conscious and vowels. What gets weird is when I do get a song, itis prophetic about what actually happens in my love life world. I won't even know for a year or two how it came true. Hemmingway one true line to begin with! That knocked me out when I heard he said that on a PBS special on him last year. John Lennon said something about say the truth and put a back beat to it. Horses/divorces!
Great video mate. Really great insight. I’m going to nick some Radiohead lyrics. He new what he was doing 😂. God I wish I learned all this as a kid. I wasn’t aloud a guitar but I had a Casio keyboard and press the slow rock button, lower the tempo and select synth lead and Phil Collins the hell out of it.

So this is interesting. Thereve been a number of times where I've been trying to start a song for hours. And i get frustrated and angry and think I'm shit. But then i write a line about that. How i can't think of anything to write and I'm sad (something like that), but then something weird happens. I think of another line. Then another. And i end up with a song. I often joke about how my best songs started with a line about not knowing what to write 🤣 but i think that's what he was talking about, that hemmingway quote. If you're stuck, just write something true.
I think that singing rubbish works well because it allows you to focus on a the melody using your voice and all its nuance with out having to struggle to fit real words and thoughts into a form. It’s too hard to do all of that at one time. Sing rubbish to get the melody and feeling matched to the music itself. Then it’s a little easier to fit words to the existing melody. That seems to work for many great songwriters.
Well and its not just the melody, but the rhythm too. It's easy to feel a vibe and mumble the right amount of syllables, this word should be one syllable, the next one should have three, etc. It's a way of feeling the vibe of the song without having to think. Every song I've written happens this way
I'm a bit of an oddball as a writer and player because i never learened any cover songs, i just learned chords and started writing I don't listen to other music so it wont influence me. But it makes your musical scope much narrower and i find i tend to go over the same ground a lot. writing simmilar melodies. I don't know any other musicians who entierly ignore other music I couldn't tell you the names of any of the people in the charts nor name any of their songs, I think this has given me a unique style hopefully without any obvious influences, but who knows if its any good? Whos to say whats good?

When your down and troubled
And your heart is dark and muffled
That F#minor 4 was a stroke of luck or genius because it recolored the whole chord prog nice!
When you’re down, down and troubled
Feeding pity with your shovel
Well there’s sugar on the old spoon…
Does anybody know what Glen was on about when talking about his issue with full rhymes such as trouble and rubble? He never fully explained it.
he was basically saying that you can expand your lyric options when you don't just use perfect rhymes.
