- See www.ihesm.com/Loudermilk3.html... all about the song on the John D Loudermilk site.
The song Break My Mind has been recorded by The Box Tops, Glen Campbell, Jerry Lee Lewis, Lee Hazlewood, Linda Ronstadt, Roy Orbison, Anne Murray, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Wreckless Eric, and many many more. But never composer John D Loudermilk himself recorded it for one of his albums. Here's a live version of John D. performing it in 2007 for the Poets and Prophets Series, organised by the Country Hall Of Fame And Museum, Ford Theatre, Nashville TN.
This is absolutely incredible to have this footage on UA-cam! What a classic song, and to hear it from the composer...a true joy. THANK YOU!!
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
John sure is a musical genius.
From a mad keen 77yo Aussie fan.
An amazing piece of musical history. Than you!
I recall JD on a UK TV show possibly with George Hamilton in early 70's?. It wasn't good until JD appeared and did a solo medley of his songs and he was breathtakingly entertaining. I have never forgotten how all alone he licked the lot of them on that show and did it all by himself. He spoke a little in between about the lot of a writer and ended with Abilene along with a beautiful harmonica interlude. RIP John D. and thanks.
Best way to describe Johns' many talents is to refer to him as a Master Musician...I've been collecting his music since the 50's.
this is great. I only knew this song from roy orbison's version which was a hit single in australia. I didn't realise so many has sung it and didn't know about the composer till now..
In my opinion one of the very best composers & singers of our time.
Amazing sounds & so,so good.
One of the best - nailed it finally (open to interpretation)!
RIP ISThanks for the memories
This is, I think, my favorite thing on the internet. Wonderful performance.
@prinecash
No video of this commercially available. I've posted it with the help of the Loudermilk family.
JefFrietkot thanks to you all!
Excellent. I felt as if I was in his living room with the aroma of coffe and beans wafting through.the bars. lol.
So amazingly good. Thanks, John!
Love this song!
I always liked this tune
Me too, I haven't heard the Anne Murray version in years.
Glad you were able to do it. After having been a fan of JDL's for a long time, I recall tuning into a singer on, I believe, the Nashville music channel. I didnt know who he was but was thinking, this guy is GREAT! Turned out it was JDL doing a song quite awhile after his 'fame' years. Would love to be able to see that clip dug up-it was awesome!
A performance full of humour from one of the most idiosyncratic singer- songwriters of the 60s, along with Ray Stevens and Roger Miller. Jerry Lee Lewis recorded a fine version of this song in 68 on his album 'Another place, another time'.
he was my grandfathers cousin
A great songwriter.
Loudermilk was probably the first mass-appeal artist to start using lyrics that needed to be listened to.
Bob Dylan owes more to him than he usually admits.
I really like him :) Great composer.
Classic Legendary Awesome. I'm so elated to hear his own personal interpretation.

This is, I think, my favorite thing on the internet. Wonderful performance.
Actually, this performance "feels" like Dylan doing Don't Think Twice.
Just great.
Klasse !
Nice!
I agree 100%
Good!
Hahaha, it never occured to me that I could get it on iTunes although I've purchased other music from there before. I thought I'd find the track here on UA-cam.
Musical genius, and JMO, but I think he was expressing that the chick in the song did leave, and so his mind did break. But, I could be wrong.
When was this video taped? Last i heard John was in Durham, NC? Thanks for the posting--awesome.
Does anyone have this by Anne Murray? I would love to hear it again.
Very cool... someone load up Gram Parsons singing this and I'll be your best friend
Funny how your memory is but I got it on itunes and found it way too fast!
& VERN GOSDIN
I loved it until hre got to the stalling part.
I actually looked up the song because I loved it many years ago.
Who actually recorded it ?so
At least Linda Ronstadt, The Jordanaires, George Hamilton VI, The Box Tops did. The Oak Ridge Boys and The Byrds played it live, not sure if they recorded it.
